A list of puns related to "Pygmy (Greek mythology)"
Yeah. He was the Centaur for Disease Control
You could say it was my Achilles's Elbow.
This was all done by my friend and it all makes sense in a way.
Basically cypher in game has a voiceline stating "I am Prometheus and you are just a god" a little bit of background knowledge Prometheus was a titan who sided with the gods in titanomachia because he can see glimpses of the future. This looks to be a fun little detail because Cyphers ultimate helps predict the future movements of the enemy. We can also take prometheus bringing fire to the humans as a symbol of cypher bringing knowledge about the enemies to his team. But if we pry deeper we see him talk to the radiants as they are gods. We can take this as the radiants being gods and the agents who rely on radiant tech to be titans. We can use this to correlate each agent to a god or titan. Also Cypher being prometheus also makes sense to why he dies every cinematic. He has to live in suffering just like Prometheus with his liver being torn out. This may also go past greek mythology and spread to different mythologies as well.
Right now the agents I think that are correlated to gods and titans are:
Cypher-Prometheus, due to his voiceline, him dying all the time, and giving information to his team
Omen-Hades, Omen has been strongly associated to with death and darkness with his abilities. His ult also lets him teleport, but he is in a shadow-like form. His blind and smokes create darkness and his teleport unravels him like shadows and re assembles him from the shadows again. He also has this voiceline to sage, "Sage the life you give do you ever wonder where it is taken from?" This shows that omen may have seen the realm of death and the dead souls just like hades who rules the underworld.
Skye-Demeter, Due to skyes power being with nature just like demeter. Demeter can also be cruel during the winter and Kay/o tells us that he has seen the future where skye grows and just like demeter skye may become even more deadly.
Sova-Artemis- This is an interesting one because Artemis is a half titan born from Leto and Zeus, Sova has been related to the hunt such as him stating, "I am the hunter" Artemis also being the goddess of the hunt. Sova also has radianite in him with his eye which gives him the "half god" aspect and uses radiante tech giving the "half titan" aspect. Sova also uses a bow the preferred weapon of artemis.
Brimstone-Atlas- This is mainly because of the ways brimstone is depicted in the die for you video, he is shown holding a sphere of something on his back. Atlas being cur

R1. Zeus vs Cthulhu from Cthulhu Mythos R2. Zeus vs Cthulhu from HP Lovecraft
I'm reading Gaiman's Norse mythology and I notice an interesting parallel between the Greek and the Norse. In both the Titans or Giants come first, and then later the Gods (Olympians and Aesir) are descended from them.
In the Norse Odin is the son of Bor, who is the son of Buri. I'm not sure if Buri is a giant but the wives of both Bor and Buri were giants
In the Greek, Zeus is the son of Cronos who is definitely a Titan
Are there any other mythologies with this parallel? What would be the significance of having Gods descend from these other divine beings who are clearly distinct from them?
These two are from different religions, but they fight each other. Which one would win the bloodlusted fight till the death? Is Satan more powerful than Hades, or is Hades more powerful than Satan? Let's use the feats that the Bible gave us with Satan, and use the feats that Greek Mythology gave us for Hades.
Bonus: Spawn (Image Comics) VS. Hades (Greek Mythology) who would win this?
Most of the media about greek mythology is just the same stories being told over and over again. It's always about some demi-god(usually the son of zeus) trying to defeat an evil god or just a movie retelling about a specific myth. Most of these stories are predictable if you know even just a few myths and orginal content will often just be poorly well written or it lacks creativity.
This disappoints me as Greek Mythology has the most interesting world and lore of all mythologies, imo. There are so many other stories they could tell with all this established world building and ideas that many writers would kill for, but they choose to do the same old. What if instead of just word for word retellings, they added they're own twist they way marvel movies do with comics.
My other problem is also that greek mythology is about way more than just some demi-gods fighting monsters. We could have stuff about a mortal progonist or stuff about the gods.
Slight spoilers ahead
First of all, I want to apologize in case there already is a similar post. If that is the case, just tell me and I'll delete mine.
Anyway, I'm currently watching a show about Greek mythology and couldn't help but notice three familiar names: Medea, Psyche and Eros.
If you're at least a bit familiar with Greek mythology or even psychology you'll already know Eros. He's the God of Love.
You could probably imagine him as some kind of cupid, as he's also got arrows: One kind for making people fall in love and another one for making sure that a person can never fall in love.
Now, there isn't a direct connection between Psyche and Medea nor between Medea and Eros (accept for him using one of his arrows to make her fall in love but I'll come back to that later). There is, however, a direct connection between Psyche and Eros. In fact, they're part of each other's stories.
Psyche (meaning "Soul") was born as one of three daughters to a king and a queen. Her beauty was seen as unrivaled, making even the Goddess of Love and Beauty, Aphrodite, jealous. At some point, people stopped worshipping her to worship Psyche instead. Aphrodite was so enraged that she decided to send her son, Eros, to make Psyche fall in love with and marry a hideous monster. However, Eros was taken aback by her beauty, tripped and cut himself on one of his arrows falling instantly in love with Psyche.
Since nobody wanted to marry her (they wanted to admire her beauty), Eros decided to take Psyche as his wife. But there was one catch: Psyche thought she was marrying a monster because the oracle of Delphi had foretold her a marriage with a hideous creature that even the Gods feared and she wasn't allowed to look at Eros' face. She had been brought to a mountain from where Eros then brought her to his palace. He visited her only at night, leaving her alone during the day.
One day, Psyche had visited her sister's who made fun of her husband. They were sure that he had to be so ugly that he didn't want Psyche to see his face. In that moment, Psyche had decided to look at his face and the next night she did so. Instead of seeing an ugly monster she saw the most beautiful man she'd ever seen.
Eros was enraged and left her. (This is getting quite long so I'll try to shorten everything from now on). Psyche wanted to get him back but for that she needed to prove her love to him. Aphrodite saw this as her chance to get rid of Psyche and sent her with a box to the under

First off this is not a rant about how everything that isn't 100% to it's source material is bad. I think to an exstant you have to change some times If you want adapat greek myths because some things the Heroes do aged really really bad while other would be cost to much Exposition-time you dont have. Just creating your own Story with your own characters in a vaguely greaco-roman fantasy setting can make a very story: Disney's Hercules has little to do with the actual Herakles-Myth but that's probably for the best considering it's a children's movie.
But most movies I have seen in resent years want to tell at least a vage retelling of a real myth. Again I totally get why you want to cut iffy details, unless you find some way to integrate them intresstingly in the plot (like how Miller's Circe gave an intressting Interpretation on Odysseus killing the slave girls raped by the suitors). But the one thing that really Frustrates me is that many directors seem under the impression that every good greek mythology movie must be crowded with Name dropping, all the monsters we know from Pop culture and ignoring essential themes of the stories.
For example lets look at the Clash of the Titans from 2010). It's an ok movie with even some coherent themes of Man adapting in a world where there is no need to worship gods anymore. The storyline follows the Perseus slaying Medusa myth, which when boiled down to its most basic plot is about a hero killing a Monster with the help of divine gifts and later saves a princess with the MacGuffin he received. I understand that you want to spice it up (it's kinda short compared to the Odyssey or the Trojan War) but the movie just kinda throws one CGI-monster after another at the hero. The movie however adds so much stuff, some of which have not even the slightest realtion to ancient Greece: Io, The Kranken, some Dschinns riding on Giant Scorpipns, a character named after Caliban from Shakespeare's the Tempest and of course Good ol' Satan-Hades. The few characters that they take from exactly Myths only bare the same names so that the viewer who is familiar with the tales will recognize them (seriously why is it even called Clash of the Titans?).
Like take a look at the Movies Portay of Io. She could

After glancing through Pandaemonium's dialogue for about the tenth time, I found a few similarities between the myths of Athena & Erichthonios to warrant a theory, as improbable it may be.
In Greek mythology, Erichthonios is not the son of Athena. I don't want to fully get into the story as it is graphic (feel free to check it out: Erichthonius of Athens), but TLDR: Athena needed weapons and went to a smith (Hephaestus). He attempted to force himself onto her and she barely escaped, his stuff falling to the ground- basically impregnating the earth.
Our Eric fully believes Athena is his mother, and Lahabrea is his father. Mythology wise, Erichthonios' father is Hephaestus and his "mother" is the earth- Athena was only a woman Hephaestus lusted for.
My theory is that Eric has no true mother- he is a product of Lahabreaโs (and possibly Athena's) experimentation. This not only justifies Lahabrea and Eric's fraught relationship, but also a few other factors. (mentioned by Themis: He seemed reticent to say aught concerning Lahabrea when the subject was broached. Doubtless his relationship with his father is a fraught one.)
Lahabrea never mourned Athena's death & their supposed partnership was never referenced throughout Pandaemonium's entire dialogue. (Erichthonios: And Lahabrea was all too eager to assume her responsibilities, with nary a moment spared to mourn her. What love do I owe him now, when he offered not one drop of compassion then?) Not only is their romance up in the air, but so is their working relationship. Was Eric simply a test subject, led to believe Athena and Lahabrea were his biological "parents?"
Finally, Athena wanted Eric to stay in Pandaemonium- she specifically invited Eric to work alongside her. (Erichthonios: You've the right of it. Athena was my mother, and it was she who invited me to join her here. Lahabrea had nothing to do with it.) This is incredibly similar to the goddess Athenaโs story; she hurried to hide Erichthonios from the world, choosing to place the newborn in a small box. When the box was inevitably opened, a half-serpent monstrosity was found within. It's unclear whether the snake hybrid killed those who opened the box, or if it's hideousness drove them to end their own lives.
This box & snake comparison may be a reach, but it is plausible- it is Pandaemonium, after all. Could Eric possibly be some monstrous creation of Lahabrea's

As I'm sure everyone knows, the talented lyre-player Orpheus loses his beautiful young wife, who is whisked away to the netherworld. Such is Orpheus's mastery of the instrument, and the power of his love, that the gods take his grief to heart and agree to assist him with his task of retrieving Euridice from the realm of the dead. On his journey there, he meets ghouls and ghosts, who he placates with his music; he finds Euridice and they begin their ascent back to the land of the living. In order for this to be successfully completed, he must fulfil one simple condition: whatever happens, he may not turn back to look at E. following him.
I was thinking that Oliver's leaving do, shot through with music, is much like Orpheus's journey to Hades. He communes and converses with ghosts (that of Bach; those of Paul and Erica, in whose company he imagines himself). What of the backward glance? This would be the expectation to find Elio unchanged, and all between them exactly the same as it had been 20 years prior, refuting the core principle of Heraclitus's teaching: we stay the same only by changing, and water, even that of the Styx, is ever flowing and nimble, washing away what we hoped to lose and that which we hoped never to part from.
