A list of puns related to "Ovid"
I heard through "the grapevine" that apparently the stories about Zeus raping women were all just Ovid's version of the myths, and in pre-Ovid mythology, Zeus' relationships were more consensual? Is this true or just pseudo-history/mythology?
Edit: Thanks for the answers! I understand this entire thing way better now!
Ovid is a roman poet who was prominent in the time of Emperor Augustus, but what set him apart from most other poets was his carefree nature. He was a poet who was obsessed with Love itself, an obsession that showed itself in his various works such as the Loves, The Art of Love, and The Heroines βa set of imaginary letters from fifteen popular women to their lovers. His works and their popularity must have seemed offensive to conservative Augustus, who after banishing his daughter Julia for various scandals, also banishes Ovid, perhaps because he believed Ovid's various poems encouraged frivolity.
Now being banished never stopped Ovid, cause while he wrote several petitions and pleas to Augustus to allow him to return, he continued on his work, The Metamorphoses, the very work that would come to be known as his Magnum opus.
Back to Metamorphoses itself. Metamorphoses is a series of poems divided into fifteen books that all deal with some form of transformation, with a good portion of these transformations occurring because of love given, accepted, scorned, rejected, or forcefully taken. The poems in Metamorphoses are for the most part inspired by already popular Greek and Roman myths, with Ovid adding little changes to the stories to better fit his themes of love and transformation. Now, while the stories themselves might not be entirely original creations of Ovid, what makes Metamorphoses so original, is its entirely unique organization and style. Ovid writes in a way that is so different and unique that it is nearly impossible to classify it into any genre, it goes beyond the lines of any traditional epic poem, tragedy or comedy, he goes from tales with epic heroes like Perseus to tales of tragedies like the story of Daedalus and Icarus, and then to even darker tales like the rape of Philomena; and while Ovid tries to create a sort of chronological order for the different stories told, the only thing truly connecting the stories together is the underlying themes of transformation and love. Perhaps even more unique is that unlike most of his predecessors in epic poetry like Virgil, whose works had an epic protagonist going through a Journey, Ovid attempts something incredibly daring in his work, by excluding any sort of traditional protagonist; if there were to be any protagonist in Ovidβs Metamorphoses it would be love itself, which manages to make a slave of everybody from the king of the gods, Jove(Zeus), to the mightiest of heroes, Hercules.

The letter contains many classical and Christian tropes, but most interestingly, it contains a section in which Ovid and the Apostle Paul are quoted and a seeming contradiction between them is harmonized.
Philippe's brother had died far from home, which was a source of anguish to Philippe. Petrarch quotes to him first Ovid's line, "Omne solum forti patria est" (for the brave, every land is a homeland). He then cites the Apostle Paul: "Non habemus hic manentem civitatem, sed aliam inquirimus" (We have here no enduring citizenship, but seek another).
Since Philippe's brother was a good man, Ovid says it was impossible for him to die outside his homeland (non potuit frater tuus extra patriam suam mori). And Paul tells us that, in a sense, we all die outside our homeland, reaching our true homeland only after death (omnes extra patriam morimur, ut sic tandem in patriam revertamur). Ovid and Paul do not say the same thing, but it works out to the same result.
Renaissance humanists had various ways of reconciling their veneration of pagan antiquity with their Christian identity. Harmonization was one of them.

... so here's the problem my step mother mentioned they sprayed weed killer recently to kill everything that was growing and I could see decaying vines/roots ect. Stacked at the end of the garden soup area, so I know these ovids are ruined or not worth the risk rather safe than sorry... but how would one go about putting together an artificial atmosphere outdoors in a flower pot and then taking the tainted ovids and adding them whole to this system. Can I do this? Any one
Update of my post from last month https://www.reddit.com/r/pennystocks/comments/nmvgh0/ovid_therapeutics_time_to_buy/
During this last month the stock rose 13% to $4.80 before falling back to $4.11 and then resuming its upward trend. The stock tested the $4.50 mark once again but failed to break through. But we can see that the price immediately resumed the upward path after falling back to the $4.50 mark which could indicate that buyers are present and buying the lows. Indeed the lows are getting higher and higher and the highs are getting higher and higher which indicates a bullish trend in daily view.
OVID has a first quarter net income almost at the level of its market capitalization and if OVID receives the additional $660 million expected, it will have received 4 times its market capitalization.
So I think OVID is really undervalued. Since the earnings release, the stock has gained 24% and is at $4.34 while quarterly earnings per share is $2.53.
Graphically there is resistance at $4.50-5.00$ and once this resistance is broken the upside can be huge. we can also see that the price has been following a trend line since its december 29th low on which it has been bouncing systematically. the $4.50 is also the yearly pivot point and once this resistance is passed we could have an explosion of the price upwards especially since the price seems to be on the verge of making a cup and handle chart pattern Finally we can see that on Friday the last 30 minutes there was a huge volume representing almost 15 times the average volume and the candle made a low point which could indicate a strong buying movement. On a daily basis the volume was almost 7 million for an average of 1 million which is 7 times more trading than usual, a level that has not been seen since March 05, 2021.

read this, and learn by reading how to love.
By art the boatβs set gliding, with oar and sail,
by art the chariotβs swift: loveβs ruled by art.
Experience prompts this work: listen to the expert poet:
I sing true: Venus, help my venture!
Far away from here, you badges of modesty,
the thin headband, the ankle-covering dress.
I sing of safe love, permissible intrigue,
and thereβll be nothing sinful in my song.
Now the first task for you who come as a raw recruit
is to find out who you might wish to love.
The next task is to make sure that she likes you:
the third, to see to it that the love will last.
Thatβs my aim, thatβs the ground my chariot will cover:
thatβs the post my thundering wheels will scrape.

Iβm looking to write a thesis/dissertation (undergraduate) on women weaving and power in Greek literature. I want to primarily talk about Penelope and philomela and draw connections and differences between the two including context of homer and Ovid but with a clear focus to Ancient Greek society. Iβve got loads of ideas and good arguments and analysis but I was wondering if anyone had any interesting perspectives on how to make this a somewhat more βnewβ angle on it. Iβve got :
-weaving their own narrative -weaving against male dominance -silencing -textiles and texts -weaving giving them power: Penelope through the course of action (and revenge- death of suitors) and philomela through getting revenge -resistance/ defiance
Does anyone have any better way of formulating these ideas or to hopefully give me a better perspective on how to make this essay better! Or even a new angle on it! Iβm open to literally any ideas and bringing new things in!
Iβd really really appreciate it- Iβm feeling sick with nerves at not having it sorted and worked out with the deadline looming! Thank you.
And also does this sound viable to anyone? Obviously with reworking- could this work?
Hi, I hope you all are doing well.
I'm in the process of formulating a search strategy using Ovid MEDLINE for a scoping review. I have a list of eight example articles that should ideally be returned in my search.
Right now I'm sorting my results by author and sifting through pages of hits to see whether each article has been captured in the search. Given the searches are returning 3,000+ hits, this is pretty time consuming. This is my first time using OVID (or any advanced database searching interface for that matter), so I was wondering if anyone with more experience knows whether there's an easier way to look for specific target articles in the search results.
Thanks for your time!
Circa 2006, there was this white dude with bitching plugs who cooked the BEST version of the spicy beef wrap at Ovid's. His lines were always the longest when he was on the grill, and every other cook just didn't measure up. Anyone remember his name? It was like one word, maybe his last name.
The recipe, it seems (from extensive folk anecdotes) is as such:
3oz shaved beef
2 slices pepper jack cheese
1.5 oz salsa mixed with mayo (.75oz each)
A few slices of green peppers
Some sliced onions
Extra large sundried tomato tortilla
Add onions and peppers to oiled grill top on mid-high for 1-2 mins
Topo with shaved beef for another minute
Use spatulas to chop and mix ingredients until beef is cooked, then move to cooler side of grill
Meanwhile, throw tortilla on grill
Add two slices cheese next to each other (minimal overlap)
Top with salsa mayo mixture
Top with beef, onions and peppers
Fold two sides on top, slightly overlapping, then fold other sides (to do this properly, use sharp edge of spatula at fold point, press down a bit to create a divot in tortilla, then complete fold)
Press tortilla for 5-10 seconds to set, then quickly flip and press lightly again for another 10 seconds or so.
Serve immediately.
Wait the amount of time it takes to get a fountain drink and some baked lays from the chip case, checkout, and find a seat near the rear window before eating. Be prepared to use too many napkins and immediately want a second spicy beef wrap.
Edit: fucking autocorrect. Remover = remember.
I'm looking for a translation of Ovids works into English, there are so many different translations I have no idea which is any good. I'm looking for one that's as close to his originals as possible not a modernised version
Weβre reading a translation The Metamorphoses of Ovid. I have no clue how to do an in-text citation for this. Is like a regular book where itβs (title page #), or (Ovid page #)? Or do I have to use line numbers? Is it different since itβs a classic?
Salve! I was reading Ovidβs Heroides and I saw these sentences:
« Quid faciam, dubito; dolor est meus illa videre, sed dolor a facie maior abesse tua » (XVI, 235)
When I look its translation, I find it in βloebβ:
βWhat shall I do, I know not; I suffer when I look upon these things, but I suffer more when I lack the sight of your faceβ
But it doesnβt satisfy me. Iβm not the guy who criticises Loebβs translations, but I try to do it myself and I guess this one also would be nice:
βWhat shall I do, I wonder; my pain is to see her(illa)
But I suffer more because of the/by the absence of your faceβ
Of course the first one is the more poetic one and Iβm not trying to translate it more poetic than it. But I wonder that does my translation correctly interpret it? If you help me about it, Iβd more appreciate that.
Hello, I have an upcoming exam on Ovid's metamorphosis, more specifically on Narcissus' chapters. For that test, we're supposed to be able to tell the scansion of the text which I struggle with quite a lot. I wondered if anyone has a file or something of the like with the scansion of these chapters so that I could check and correct my mistakes.
Thanks in advance, and sorry for any grammatical mistakes, English is not my first language.
The poem says they served two things that I couldn't figure out.
I tried to look them up but just get medical plant information, a website called the Greek Corner and quotes from the poem. What would these have been?
Be patient and tough; someday this pain will be useful to you. - Ovid

I just finished reading Metamorphoses and I'm a bit surprised that there aren't too many lectures on the work available on Youtube. I was wondering if any of y'all know of good (preferably not too long) books/articles on the work, whether it be commentary, interpretation, anything.
Thanks, everyone ^^
On my usual browsing of the PubMed "hot articles" these two came up and peaked my interest.
The first, which is summarized by one picture here, shows how 3D printing can take a commercial snorkel mask and make into a full face P100.
Their conclusions were:
"The solution exceeded the OSHA requirements for a full faced mask in quantitative testing, and should be further evaluated as a PPE alternative in the current COVID-19 related PPE shortage."
The second, from PLosONE, which you can gather from this picture, shows a similar approach.
Their conclusions were:
"Full-face snorkel masks adapted as particulate respirators performed better than a standard PPE combination of FFP3 mask and eye protection against aerosol inhalation and droplet deposition. This adaptation is therefore a promising PPE solution for healthcare workers during highly contagious viral outbreaks."
All we need is 1-2 articles that clearly demonstrate Hawaiian shirts and shorts on the floors improve morale, productivity, and profit margins, and these will become our mandated uniforms.

Why is OVID a great investment opportunity?
OVID announced the closing of the Royalty, License and Termination agreement (the βAgreementβ) under which Takeda Pharmaceutical secured global rights from Ovid to develop and commercialize the investigational medicine soticlestat (TAK-935/OV935) for the treatment of developmental and epileptic encephalopathies, including Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. OVID received an upfront payment of $196 million and is eligible to receive up to an additional $660 million upon achieving development, regulatory and sales milestones. In addition, OVID will receive tiered double-digit royalties, up to 20 percent on sales of soticlestat, if approved and commercialized. Takeda has assumed sole responsibility for further worldwide development and commercialization, and Ovid no longer has any financial obligation to Takeda under the original collaboration agreement, including for milestone payments or any future development and commercialization costs.
