Would you be in favor of stopping production of pennies and nickels and rounding prices to the nearest ten cents?

This is a topic I’ve heard quite a bit about, especially with pennies, but also occasionally with nickels as well.

Personally I am in favor of this because it costs more than they’re worth to make them, and I don’t believe price differences that low are meaningful enough to worry about.

But I wanted to know what you all thought too.

I’m out of the loop, is my price range realistic for audio production, home theater, casual gaming?

I haven’t kept up on pc parts for about 6 years. I do know that there are a lot of affordable cpus now that blow away my current setup, which is an i7-4770 3.4 GHz w/16GB DDR3 (2 sticks total, CPUZ says the frequency is 666.8 MHz, the mobo utility says 1333 MHz) and a Samsung 850 EVO 500GB . I’d prefer to be as far as possible under $1k but if I’m setting the bar too high can go up to about $1200 (maybe more). Any help would be really appreciated!

What will you be doing with this pc?

I’ll have a dual boot Windows 10 system. One install is for audio production where I’d like to have the resources to mix up to around 32 tracks and plenty of plugins. The other is for daily use with casual gaming (couch co-op with my partner, emulating 8 and 16 bit systems or higher) and home theater. I’m much more concerned about video quality with home theater than with gaming. Specifically I’d like to keep it somewhat future proof for improvements in filter tech to improve low res vids. I watch a lot of old and bootleg concert vids and dream of the day when filters or AI can make them look at least 30% better in real time. Being able to play 8k video is also important. I’d also just like a system that feels a lot snappier than my current system.

When do you plan on building?

In 3-6 weeks, 2 months at the longest

What do you need included?

Motherboard β€” PSU β€” System drive (1TB ssd) β€” Ram (I’m thinking 32GB, otherwise 16GB?) β€” Video card β€” USB 3.0 ports x 5 minimum β€” Blu-Ray drive β€” Tower β€” Fans

What I don’t need

WiFi or bluetooth Extra or external storage Overclocking

Location

Tacoma, WA, no Microcenter nearby

Reusing parts

I’ll be using my current keyboard, mouse, external storage, and monitor until I hopefully get an 8k tv in the next year

Specific features

Quiet fans and psu are preferred but optional

Case preferences

Full size tower, looks aren’t important although black is preferred, no led lighting

Copy of Windows needed?

No

I hope I’m not forgetting anything. Thank you!!

Edit: just format, not content

I think I'm sold on resin models. The details are immaculate, paint is perfect, the laser cut precision, the only problem is the price. With how diecast is trending, even as technology gets better, materials cheaper, and production more efficient, I highly doubt the prices will go down anytime soon.
