Police in the US have too much unnecessary power and exemptions and some of these should be reduced or taken away to more closely resemble the laws and restrictions that regular civilians have to abide by.
The US is about check and balances right? Making sure no one agency or entity has too much power. Police officers are exempt from a lot of things and have a a lot of powers that arenโt granted to regular civilians, when in reality they are just civilians in uniform tasked with enforcing law and off duty, these powers should be reduced significantly. I understand LEOSA is for their safety due to the nature of their job but now theyโre trying to change that too. So they can carry in gun free zones off duty. Their argument there is that an armed off duty police officer could stop a mass shooter or threat and save lives, yeah, so could an armed civilian with a concealed carry permit. If they want these zones to be protected so bad, petition to make these zones required to have armed security. I feel like the police powers are not checked, nor balanced enough and they are held in too high a regard and should be more equal to regular civilians off duty.
