The Pink Fairy Armadillo Facts
Pink Fairy Armadillo
The pink fairy armadillo, sometimes referred also as Pichiciego, seems to be the worldβs smallest armadillo type. It inhabits in Central Argentina as well as other parts of South America among sandy plains and dry grasslands. Remarkable adjustments including an aerodynamic shape, smooth dorsal shell and sharp claws allow this species to bury itself entirely inside the sand in just a few moments and afterwards easy to navigate underneath. The pink fairy armadillo spends much of its existence underneath the surface, like a mole. Itβs also nocturnal, just occasionally to obtain nourishment at night time. Chlamyphorus truncatus is indeed the scientific name of the pink fairy armadillo. The animalβs capability to dig and travel underground sometimes means the βsand swimmer.β The animalβs defensive plate is called after its unusual rose color. Around 1825 Richard Harlan presented the original commonly recognized account of the pink fairy armadillo. Read More

The pink fairy armadillo is a native to South America, and we are lucky to have some video of one digging around in the sand foraging for something to eat. It is usually more pink colored but because of the low level of sunlight, it appears a bit white, but should be more pink.
