A list of puns related to "Mark Renton"
Just stumbled upon this little gem on YouTube, both 'Choose Life' speeches from the movies Trainspotting and Trainspotting 2 (T2). I can't stop listening to this video as it really does hold so much weight and applies such a poignant commentary on not just current events but the original speech has almost a foresight like projection. Everything about it is just mesmerising.
Anakin was supposed to be the chosen one and in Episode VI he seems to satisfy the profecy, but with the new trilogy this becomes impossible. So what if the prequel trilogy never happened in star wars and the whole thing was just a Trainspotting spinoff? During his withdrawal Mark Renton is at the mercy of hallucinations. He has the age to have seen episodes IV,V,VI. His favourite character could be Obi Wan and so when he falls asleep he identifies himself with his hero. In this view the real main character of the prequel trilogy becomes Obi Wan who fights against the dark side, i.e. the heroin. All his memories merge with his love for the saga creating all the 3 films.
I made this video to trying better describing what I'm thinking of
He talks about it in the Irvine Welsh prequel to Trainspotting, Skagboys -- cool story bro, r/jamesjoycemildlyinteresting
Here's the quote:
"Maist days, when ah'm no huntin junk, ah'm reading Joyce's Ulysses.... Ah'd never really got it before, it wis just tedious waffle tae me, but now ah'm loast in it, trippin oan the words and images they conjure up like ah'm oan acid." - Irvine Welsh, Skagboys (p. 374-75)
Trainspotting is one of my favorite movies and ever since I saw it I've wanted the shirt Mark Renton wears here.
Can anyone find the shirt or identify the image on it?
There's a gif of Obi Wan swimming in the swamp of Dagobah and then it cuts to Mark Renton climbing out of the toilet, I can't find it anywhere.
