Lucius Aelius Caesar, whom Hadrian adopted as his heir but died before Hadrian on 138 AD, thus Antoninus Pius was chosen. Aelius was the father of Lucius Verus, and after Antoninus Pius, Verus and Marcus Aurelius became co-emperors. (Wonder why Dovahhatty never mentioned him).

Why is Lucius Verus not considered one of the "5 Good Emperors"?

He oversaw a successful campaign against Persia, and was a generally competent Emperor, from what I understand. I mean, sure, he was overshadowed by his co-emperor, but surely he did at least as much as Nerva?

Lucius Verus AE Sestertius 165 AD, Victory over the Parthians reverse

This coin is propaganda celebrating the conquest of Parthia (modern Iran). On the obverse he is wearing the title PARTH MAX short for PARTHICVS MAXIMVS (meaning the Greatest victor over the Parthians). Note he is also wearing the title ARM short for ARMENICVS (meaning Victor over the Armenians), as in 163 AD they had captured Artaxata, the capital of Armenia. Marcus Aurelius decided to not take the ARM title as he had nothing to do with it.

Five Roman emperors from the Nerva-Antonine dynasty are considered the β€˜Five Good Emperors’. This includes Marcus Aurelius, but doesn’t include Lucius Verus, his co-emperor. Why not?

I’ve always wondered this; did Verus do something to disqualify him from being labelled good? Thanks in advance
