#69 George Harrison (and Paul McCartney) - And Your Bird Can Sing https://youtu.be/EcMYg9XM_eU
Well, here we have another song on the list without a solo. This makes 4 now I think. This one however I have no problem with. Despite the fact that the guitars in 'And Your Bird Can Sing' are actually playing a melody line numerous times and not a "solo" per se, It is one of the very first instances in Rock and Roll music of guitar harmonies. Reason enough to put it on this list IMO. Also despite the fact that, though written by John Lennon, he would later call And Your Bird Can Sing a "horrible rubbish throwaway". God I wish I could write "throwaways" like this. I think Lennon was off his nut when he made that comment. I think it's a brilliant and lovely song, and you'll be certain to find it on any list of The Beatles greatest guitar songs.
Guitar harmonies had been around before the Beatles of course, but mostly in jazz and country circles. And You Bird Can Sing is, I believe the first mainstream song by a major artist to utilize harmonies between guitars. It would pave the way for all who followed, Allman Brothers, Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, Eric Clapton, Thin Lizzy etc... etc...
... and unfortunately poor Joe Walsh. The story goes that Joe Walsh as a young teenage guitarist spent weeks and months banging his head against a wall trying to figure out just what the hell George Harrison was doing here. He had never heard anything like it before. He just assumed that George was playing one guitar because that's the way it had always been done. Like I said, guitar harmonies at this point in time were quite rare. He must have thought that George Harrison was some sort of wizard. It took him ages to be able to play it properly.
Years later he relayed this story to Ringo Starr, who promptly said "George and Paul did it on TWO guitars dummy!" Not demoralized at all, Joe was now happy with the fact that he was probably the only person in the world who could play And Your Bird Can Sing on ONE guitar.
I decided to try it both ways. Upon first listen (I've heard it many times before of course... I'm old), It didn't sound too difficult to play. Just simple guitar lines played in harmony. Not really knowing the history of the song, I thought to myself "I wonder if it can be played on one guitar", so I looked it up. Turns out that it can, but with great difficulty, haha. Just ask Joe Walsh. Way, way more technically challenging than playing it straight. It was just the

> Sir Ringo Starr has teamed up with Sir Paul McCartney to record a version of a lost demo written by John Lennon less than a year before his death.
> Lennon penned Grow Old With Me during the sessions for Double Fantasy, the final record he made before he was shot and killed outside his Manhattan apartment on December 8, 1980.
> The former Beatles drummer, 79, was introduced to the song by record producer Jack Douglas, who produced the Grammy-winning album, which is also credited to Lennon's widow Yoko Ono.
> Sir Ringo enlisted the help of Sir Paul, 77, to play bass on the track, which he admitted had brought him to tears when he first heard it.
> The track features on Sir Ringo's 20th solo album, What's My Name, out on October 25.
> Sir Ringo recorded the album in his home studio, known as Roccabella West, enlisting a number of regular contributors and members of his touring All-Starr Band.

Second only to "Do They Know It's Christmas" by Band-Aid.
I also love walking into a store on November 1st and hearing Christmas music already playing because it makes me smile and gets me pumped for the holidays.
Hello all,
Ok, to give you some context. My dad had two Beatles greatest hits albums on CD (one is 1963 to 1966 and the other is 1967 to 1970) and we listed to them in the car many, many times. I loved listening to the albums and they are the reason I still love the Beatles.
The other day, I found Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey on YouTube and I discovered, it isn't a Beatles song! At first, I thought the title was just wrong so I checked another video. Again, it said "Paul and Linda McCartney" I was in shock because I could have sworn I heard that song on the Beatles album (specifically the '67 to '70 one) It even reminded me of Sgt. Pepper and/or Yellow Submarine (mostly because of the line "hands across the water, hands across the sky". I even envision George Harrison playing the cool trumpet part. I can't think of where else I could have heard it. Most classic rock and 70's music radio stations dont play much of Paul's music (at least where I'm from)
How could my mind betray me like this? I had such great and vivid memories of this great Beatles song. But its not a Beatles song, and I have never heard it on CD.
Thanks for reading, CoolWizard88
Was in a bar in NYC around xmas time and heard this song playing when I walked in. Only caught the end of the song. It's 100% Jay-Z remixed over Paul McCartney's "Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time" instrumental. I can't find it anywhere online.
