A list of puns related to "Lanolin"
My daughter was born December 18th and weβve been breastfeeding exclusively. the nurses and lactation specialists in the hospital gave me pure lanolin to apply to my nipples after every feed, and i was using the Weleda nipple balm which contains lanolin once we got home. My nipples were cracked and bleeding and each time she latched was agony for two weeks and it was not getting better. I cried all the time. Each time I showered, the towel even gently grazing my nipples was awful.
My OB referred me to a breast surgeon in town. She advised that some women have a sensitivity to lanolin. So when my breasts became engorged with milk on day 3 after birth and my nipples suffered trauma as a result, the lanolin was actually preventing them from healing, making each feed excruciating.
Iβm now using polymem pads after feeding as well as comfort gel pads and not applying any balm, just using breast milk on my nipples. Itβs been 2 days and the pain is still there but definitely getting better.
Iβm not saying everyone should avoid using lanolin products, but if you have nipple trauma that isnβt getting better, try ditching the lanolin!
I've used lanolin cream at the beginning of breastfeeding, but now after some weeks I don't feel the need anymore... Should I continue to apply it as a good habit? Or can I use the leftover cream for any other use?
I'm having the absolute worst time trying to find a vegan nipple balm :( I'll think I found one and then BOOM it has freaking beeswax. Why is there always beeswax??????
I've heard of people using coconut oil but honestly I feel like I need something more "healing". Even when it's a little too cold (pre-baby too) my nipples would hurt so bad I'd want to cry lol. They're incredibly sensitive in the not good way.
I also want to try all those cutely packaged lactation cookies but they all have eggs. Like ok I know I'm being picky but I don't like how licorice tastes (referring to the teas) and I really just want something that's premade. Does it exist???
EDIT: Someone's downvoting everyone's comments :( I just want to make it known that it's not me, and I really don't think it's anyone from this sub. I posted the same thing on a different mom subreddit and I think an anti-vegan got upset or something... Just please know all your replies have been awesome and I'm incredibly grateful!!!
I've not used lanolin/alcohol case lubricant and would like to try it out. Any brand suggestions for the lanolin and mixture ratio?
Thanks!
I can't wait to stop using lanolin!!! I am 7.5 weeks pp, and I have severe nipple trauma. I was finally able to get a LC out to my house last week and she helped me fix his latch and got me on a moist healing routine. My wounds are much shallower than before and my left is almost completely healed. I was putting lanolin on my nipples everytime he fed and let them air out when possible, or using lanolin with my silverettes when I had to cover up. I'm also doing an Epsom salt soak 3 times a day for 3 minutes. Today is the first time I noticed that my nipples didn't hurt under pressure or when touched, and I've been able to wear a bra without any type of shielding for my nipples. When I feed my baby, I still have initial latch pain for about 10-20 seconds, but then it's painless. My nipples are feeling a bit sore because I haven't worn my silverettes all day, but the pain isn't awful. It's just there, if that makes sense. A dull ache that is in the background. Should I keep using the lanolin? It's honestly been so freeing not using it all day, but I also don't want to negate any healing I've done for the past week and a half. I am still doing the salt soaks. Thoughts/advice?
I have been searching all over for zinc topical but the ones Ive found have petroleum, paraffin, lanolin, beeswax, wax, oils etc.
Does anyone know any product that is free of these ingredients?
I thought I found one on this sub the other day but cannot find it anymore.
Any sort of occlusive makes my PD worse.
Can you use lanolin ointment with cloth diapers? I was gifted way too much and donβt want to go to waste! Any other suggestions for use, other than its intended use?
So I just bought new silk pillowcases and after opening the package, it occurred to me that I have no idea how to wash these things. The care instructions say to wash cold with a pH neutral detergent. After several google rabbit holes searching for the right detergent, I am more confused than when I started.
I already have some Eucalan wool wash for delicates that says it is pH neutral, but it has added lanolin to condition wool. It'd be great if I could just use that since I already have it, but I don't know if lanolin is safe for silk. These things were a splurge for me and I want to take care of them properly so they can last as long as possible. Please help!
Iβve tried lanolips, CeraVe healing ointment , aquaphor ointment, lansinoh, vaniply ointment, Vaseline, curad petroleum jelly, Jack black, blistex, Carmex, Paulaβs choice, oβ keefes,Burtβs bees, nivea , I feel all these due is just sit there and soothe temporarily and not heal my lips, causing them to be dry and sticky every hour.
Iβve tried water or moisturizer with these occlusive and it still didnβt solve the problem. My skin also hates CeraVe products in general. I also have a reaction to lanolin so I hope anyone has recommendations. Just looking for a non flavored non fragrance, non petroleum/lanolin lip balm that sinks in and moisturizes , where I donβt have to be constantly applying.

Hi all. Iβm 39 weeks pregnant, FTM, and trying to purchase some last minute things for myself. Everyone has been telling me that nipple cream is important.
I have three options:
From what I read this last one can also be used on babyβs dry skin - not sure about the others.
Does anyone have any recommendations? What worked best for you? Have you tried the ones listed above? Any advice is very helpful :-)
As you already know there are quite a few really good options out there for when you have really dry skin.
Aquaphor
Lanolips
Lanisoh
So as you've tested the active ingredient in all of these is lanolin. If this is something that really works well for you, you can easily get a jar of lanolin at your local chemist for about half the price of one of the mini tubes of this stuff.
So long as you don't mind feeling a little greasy this stuff is excellent for all kinds of dry skin patches.
Good luck!
I have two tubs of NOW food grade lanolin. They smell strongly of βsheepβ for lack of a better descriptor. Is it possible to remove the scent at home without crazy equipment?
Anything at all? I'm living with my mom now after college and she's allergic to lanolin, coconut oil, and argan oil.
Other features in order of interest: endurance (I work at leasf 8 hours/day), heavy hold, low shine, <50% or less Petro (not pure vaseline). My dream is Lockhart's Heavy Hold like behavior but I don't think that's exactly attainable w my ingredient constraint. I'm open to clays/clay pomades too but I don't have much experience with them.
Not causing my mom rashes is more important to me than having a product that exactly mimics my current style, but:
I have chin length medium-thick Caucasian curly hair, and very usually style in a pomp w slicked back sides using LH Heavy.
It seems like coconut oil is the biggest hurdle. Anyone have any insight?
Update: Thanks for the help team, /u/sakryb and /u/LowMeridian especially - I just bought a tub of Templeton Atlas and Ruezel Pink!
Update 2: if anyone is in a similar situation and finds this post: LH fire and brimstone heavy is lanolin and coconut oil free too!
Looking for things to keep me -moisturized- without animal derivatives. Would straight petroleum jelly work for areas like lips and inside of nose?
Starting accutane in a month
I have terrible allergies. About every year or two I have to change lip balms because I become allergic to them and they make my lips burn. Because I live in such a densely wooded area I'm not getting away from my allergies, and yes I do take 2 Mucinex a day otherwise I'm panting like a pug.
Most recently I've been splitting my lip care routine into 2 different balms: Simple Truth Organic Moisturizing Lip Balm and Aquaphor Healing Ointment (the legit glop that comes in a tub). Neither one of them are working for me anymore.
At the suggestion of this server I went and bought Lanolin Nipple Cream, which kind of helped heal the angular cheilitis (I still have it, I just don't open my mouth wide enough to expose it) and now my vermillion border is basically on fire.
I would go to the dermatologist except I don't have insurance and I'm a college student. So you can imagine the kind of stress I'm under. My lips have been burning for about a week and I'm about at my wits end. I don't know what else I can do to help myself. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions?
Hello, I was wondering whether this might be allowed. It doesnβt seem to contradict any rules, but happy to be corrected and answer questions.
I wanted to share my story and see if it helps others, and see if anyone might be willing to test a product for eczema ( ideally U.K. based )
I am a 42 yo female and I suffered with horrendous eczema as a child. I was hospitalised with it, and I recall it really affecting my quality of life up until I was around 18/19.
I also developed a lifelong complication because of the treatment I had. I guess in the 1980s they didnβt have as much info about steroids as they do now, so understandably my parents applied a lot of them. Apparently I had open, red sores for a long time and was bandaged a lot. ( always wondered if this is why I am obsessed with freedom as an adult, but I donβt know, and I digress )
So at age 16 I developed a very strange allergy to sunlight. Diagnosed as chronic actinic dermatitis. I need to wear suncream ALL THE TIME in or near ( through windows ) daylight. My dermatologist ( a leading European one ) said that a handful of people who had had very long use of strong steroids had had this unlucky development. I did trials and fish oil helped ( seriously ) but I couldnβt swallow 20 huge capsules of fish oil a day so I learned to live with it, and I manage the daylight allergy ok.
But then my daughter was born in 2014. She had horrific eczema and it was so bad and the consequences for her and us so hard that at the beginning I think it affected bonding. ( sleep deprivation and worry etc ) it persisted and I tried EVERYTHING. Obviously I was wary of steroid use but but itβs important to note we did use it. I am not anti steroid - I am in favour of them for getting flare ups under control.
When she was 5 and still pretty bad, despite all the usual emollients, pharm and natural,I asked a chemist for advice. He suggested lanolin. I was wary because it has a reputation for sensitising, but he explained that a lanolin with a certain percentage of alcohol is effectively hypoallergenic.
Anyway, we tried it and within weeks her skin was was soft and supple and whilst she still itches her skin looks and feels normal. It has been a miracle for us. The only downside is that it was a ***** to apply as itβs so sticky and I know that part of successful management of eczema is that the creams have to be ok to use.
So I have worked with the chemist to make it nice to use and added a couple of extracts known to
... keep reading on reddit β‘I just started using a homemade lanolin and rubbing alcohol mixture in a 1:10 ratio, and while it works wonderfully as a case lube, I am having some challenges getting it off the resized cases (at least to my satisfaction).
To be fair, I am probably being overly generous in the application (3-4 sprayer pumps into a gallon ziplock with 100-150 pieces of .223, then shaken up), but post sizing I have tried soaking/agitating in a bucket with dawn (didn't work well), soaking in Woolite (better, but still not as good as it could be), and finally a full on tumble with pins and Dawn.
Doing multiple clean cycles is not that big of a deal but I do feel like maybe I need to lighten up on the application, and maybe dilute the mixture as well. I am also a bit of a snob about shinny brass so I'm probably going over-board but those pale yellow cases are so, so pretty!
Iβve tried a handful of lanolin based shave soaps. Generally Iβd say they are smoother, but man, I am not a fan of their scent, that seems to be the compromise. What are the best scented lanolin shave soaps? Thanks
I'm hoping to start using disana wool covers for overnights. I know GMD has a page on how to wash wool, but I'm curious about everyone's...
Would love to hear what you're all using and why!
Wish I knew before buying a big tub..
