I heard thymol is a strong agent against mold and other microbes. I googled a bit about it but I still have some questions. Any experience how big a surface you can clean with, say, a half liter spraybottle of a thymol-in-ethanol solution? Any chance they are gone after the first treatment? If not, how often should you re-spray the affected area?
I wasn't informed by the pharmacist on how to properly take the medicine, and I was anything but sober with a pounding headache. Only today was I lucid enough to see that this "cough medicine" isn't a cough medicine but rather a gargle... What should I do? Is it dangerous?
I haven't had any allergic reaction to it... I know mouthwash can be quite toxic though. I have drunk about 60~75 ML.

I did a powdered sugar roll this weekend, with about 1/3rd cup of bees off of a frame of brood (so, hopefully, nurse bees). Counted 7 mites, which I figured was definitely an indicator to treat but the guy at our local bee supply store said was a heavy infestation. I've been reading up on chemical management, since it seems vital to get that count down ASAP for strong winter bees, and the guy at the shop recommended API LIFE VAR, a Thymol-based preparation. We got 4 applications.
My question is threefold:
- Is that a lot of mites?
- What are your experiences using this preparation?
- Do you have any other recommendations?
Hi. Does anyone have experience with thymol products like Apiguard for treating varroa? I did a quick search but found nothing posted about this previously. I'm really skeptical of these kind of products when they make big claims. Here's the site in question.

Please consider changing rule #6. I love this sub, but the recent influx of NSFW tagged posts that get all the upvotes, just seem wrong when there are good solid DAD jokes being overlooked because of them.
