A list of puns related to "Wool Fat"
I know it's a harder soap to get a good lather, but I'm determined to stick with it and make it work.
I've tried lathering in the bowl and also on my face, but I must be doing something wrong. If there's anyone here that manages to get a thick lather with it, would you kindly give a brief 'tip list' on how you do it?
Thanks!
How would you compare these two, and out of these, which would you choose and why?
I bought Mitchell's Wool Fat about a week ago. Just had my third shave with it and frankly I hate it.
I face lathered the first time, bowl lathered the second and I just face lathered again.
I've got a lot of razor burn and bumps on me right now and I'm worried about permanently marking my face.
I used to use TOBS with Astra blades and the shaves were perfect, but I tried this soap because my TOBS was running out and MWF gets glowing reviews. It's also pretty cheap for me as I'm in the UK.
I don't think MWF is that hard to lather. It works fine if you give it enough water and it's plenty slick. You don't really feel the blade as much as TOBS.
I'm currently using Astra blades which I've used for almost a year now.
Should I try a new blade or get a new soap?
Frankly I'm really annoyed about this because I spent money on that soap thinking that I won't need to spend any money for a long while, but now look what's happened.
Thank you.
I made a thread about this before complaining about how bad MWF is. I was told to bloom it and so I did. It's even worse now. The side of my face is completely red and it stings. I also had a cut on my chin and it's been months since that's happened.
Could somebody recommend a soap that's not going to irritate my skin like this?
Would Stirling be any good, because that's what I'm thinking of getting as it's very good value for money.
I can't get samples because I'm in the UK and the price of a sample simply isn't worth it as I'm on a budget
I don't think I have a lanolin allergy. Somebody mention this on my previous thread, but my entire face isn't irritated and I also covered my hands in the soap a few times to feel the lanolin and it didn't do anything to me. I also found out from a reputable source that a lanolin allergy is rare.
Thank you.
Iβve really enjoyed using Mitchellβs wool fat shave soap but the last bar I got I had to cut down to fit in my lather bowl. Any suggestions for a new one that is big enough?
https://youtu.be/me4EatMXHOM?t=761 12:50+ sums up the entirety of the video.
My lather is exactly like this. Airy, foamy, doesnt stick to my face at all, just builds on the brush.
Any advice I can get on how to get a slick lather that doesnt dissipate?
This foamy lather is causing me so much tugging

My dish of Mitchell's showed up this morning and after waiting all week I was pretty excited to try it out tonight. I usually face lather and never had any trouble with the other soaps/creames I've tried but this... boy, did it do a number on my cheeks. Used my normal set up. Blade is a feather, razor muhle r89, synthetic offbrand brush.
Loaded up the brush and started to lather on my face, got a little tingle. Nothing crazy, similar to AOS creams I've got and actually felt pretty nice. Worked for a while on the lather and couldn't get it just right but it was really nice and slick. First pass went alright, wet my face alittle again before lathering up for a second pass and this time it started to itch my cheeks. Went ahead and did the second pass, by the time I was finishing up my neck it went from a slight tingle/itch to straight up burning, but only on my cheeks which is very odd since my sensitive area is my neck. I went ahead washed up, did my usual witchzael/aftershave mix and some Nivea balm. I put some cetafil face lotion on after a few minutes since its been really irritated. I have bright red and very tender skin..like a sunburn
Afterwards I did another (better) lather and 2x shave on my inner arm/elbow which is also usually a sensitive area, just to double test it. No ill effects on my arm.. infact it's really soft and smooth now. So am I allergic to this stuff? Bad lather? I've never had any skin allergy reactions before so I'm not sure what the deal is here.
I made a long post and reddit ate it so here we go. I live in Vermont and snow gets up to my knees. I need something to keep the snow out of my pants and feet. I am very allergic to wool and I can't find anything that doesn't have a high heel or some horrible fashion design that defeats the whole purpose of being a boot. I found a bearpaw that was perfect but it only came in wool. I just want a practical boot to keep my ferry warm. Any suggestions? EDIT: the boots that were almost perfect were bearpaw isabella snow boot. EDIT2: THANK YOU EVERYONE! All of you gave me great information!
Just like the title says looking for a few samples mainly to see what they smell like. Maybe something you can stick in an envelope so postage is as cheap as possible; penny sample style. Looking to smell Mitchell's Wool Fat Shaving Soap, Speick Shaving Cream and the long shot... Pitralon Aftershave (the Swiss one). Message me and we can work something out. Thanks!
I've been meaning to try Mitchell's Wool Fat soap for ages (and I have tons of other soaps in my collection, so it hasn't been a priority to add to that).
I've also been really wanting a Gillette Aristocrat to add to my vintage razor collection, preferably in usable condition, since I like to actually use the razors in my collection.
My lovely wife bought me a puck of Mitchell's as well as a 1948-50 Aristocrat for my birthday (which was the other day), so I had to give them both a try today.
I've read here and elsewhere the difficulties people have had lathering Mitchell's, and I have to say... that was not my experience. This is great soap!
It lathered wonderfully, smelled nice, and performed quite well.
And the Aristocrat! This is a new favorite razor I think. I liked it so much I'm going to have it replated so that it can be a bit more durable for regular use.
Full review and more photos here if you want to read. TL;DR, both products are fantastic. I wasn't expecting to like either one as much as I did today!

Review
Happy Mother's Day, everybody!
Finally, the Fat. People have been asking me to review this for ages and today the wait is over for all three of you that care. Mitchell's Wool Fat is a mainstay of traditional wetshaving and "one of those soaps" that everybody should try (maybe). The soap is a tallow-based soap with lanolin. Lightly scented, it smells clean and soapy with a touch of light lemon. You are not buying this soap for scent unless you want just a clean soapy scent, and then I guess you are buying it for its scent.
The Fat enjoys a mixed reputation: highly resistant to lathering unless one uses advanced soaking and prepping techniques and it makes a fantastic slick creamy lather with very good post shave conditioning. I had basically no issues lathering the soap; it did take the usual few lathers to break through the top layer of overly dry soap, but smooth sailing after that. This soap likes water and I would recommend adding water as you load the brush, and keep adding water as you build the lather. As promised, a nice creamy and slick lather which made for easy shaves all week. The soap leaves behind a very slick layer when rinsing between passes, which is another clue to how much water you should use to build the lather. Post-shave skin quality is in fact very good, but I did also have a bit of dryness in addition to the sensation of suppleness right after the shave.
I can see why this soap is a go-to for so many people: it's simple, no-fuss, reliable, high quality soap. I did nothing special to make it work, no incantations or black magic, or worse, blooming. Stick it in a dish, dribble a bit of water on it and start loading your brush.
The Graydog custom brush looks striking: wonderful color and grain to the wood, and the shape makes it very easy to hold. The knot is a Maggard mixed 70/30 badger/boar, which I broke in with a two day soak. The knot has a touch of scrub, but good scrub, nice backbone with easy splay, and actually feels pretty soft on the face. I was afraid this knot would be as unpleasantly scritchy as my RazoRock Amici brush, but it is in fact a wo

Especially the Tabac in the porcelain tub, if you've tried it.
I just started using MWF this morning and based on instructions/videos I saw, I bloomed the soap. Is that necessary with Mitchellβs Wool Fat? Also, does blooming eat up the soap quicker? I know itβs a thick, Triple milled soap but thought of asking anyways.
Thanks.
I'm thinking about taking the plunge and finally getting a puck. I have a synthetic Razorock brush and I shave my whole head, so I like to build lather in a bowl.
Do you guys think this setup will work?
SOLD! Thanks.
Hello Shave_Bazaar!
I am selling a Mitchellβs Wool Fat refill puck used 2x for $9 (paypal F&F) with free CONUS shipping included. I grated the MWF refill puck with a stainless steel grater into a Wholly Kaw container, itβs ready for use! Let me know if you want it.
I have a puck of each, and my puck of Stirling Executive Man (which I love: I'm a big Fine Platinum fan and as both are based on the awesome Creed Aventus, and smell great IMO) is about done, which means I have an open mug for one or the other.
I've never used either one: I know both have pros and cons, cons being for Tabac you either like the scent or don't, and Mitchell's being hard to lather with at times.
Thoughts/suggestions are appreciated. Also, can you guys recommend aftershaves that you feel compliment said Soaps?
Thanks!
