A list of puns related to "Islamic culture"
If it's wrong to generalize and say "the Arab cultures of today are backwards", isn't it also wrong to say "the Arab cultures of the past were ignorant"?
Maldives constitution designates Islam as the state religion, requires citizens to be Muslim, and requires public office holders, including the president, to be followers of Sunni Islam. The constitution provides for limitations on rights and freedoms “to protect and maintain the tenets of Islam.” The penal code permits the administration of certain sharia punishments, such as stoning and amputation of hands. In November the parliament repealed the Anti-Defamation Act, which had criminalized expression deemed to be at odds with Islamic tenets. In July then President Abdulla Yameen publicly stated his government intended to impose harsh legal punishment against individuals who insulted Islam, including stripping them of state benefits. In April then Minister of Defense and National Security Adam Shareef Umar said the government would not allow religions other than Islam in the country. Also in April the Ministry of Islamic Affairs (MIA) published a policy paper proposing financial penalties and either prison or house arrest for individuals who insult Islam. In September police destroyed a semi-submerged sculpture gallery installed by a resort after a court ruled the installation posed a threat to “Islamic unity and the peace and interests of the Maldivian state.” In February the Civil Service Commission dismissed a teacher and a school janitor for refusing to take off their niqabs in compliance with civil service dress code guidelines. The MIA continued to maintain control over all matters related to religious affairs, including requiring imams to use government-approved sermons in Friday prayers. The government continued to prohibit resident foreigners and foreign tourists from practicing any religion other than Islam in public.
Nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) stated that religiously motivated violent extremists continued to target other individuals on social media, including employees of human rights organizations, and label them “secularists.” They also reported continued community pressure on women to wear a hijab. In April police briefly arrested a male taxi driver who threatened to kill a woman for not wearing a hijab but did not press charges. In May a woman moved away from her island due to harassment after appearing in an online video speaking about societal pressure to wear the hijab and her wish to remove it. NGO representatives also stated they continued to see a rise in what they termed Islamic radicalism and fundamentalism a

A very special someone's birthday is coming soon and I want to get her something nice. A big theme within our relationship has been our cultural differences, and I kinda want to see if it's possible to get something to represent that.
Ideally, I was thinking of jewelry (earrings) from her region of the world. However, I wonder if anyone knows of any type of earrings/jewelry that is Spanish, while also Islamic? This probably is impossible as I type this out.
I am open to all ideas, regardless of jewelry or not.
I appreciate all the help.
Moreover, based on a Twitter thread I saw once, Khurasanis are over-represented amongst the Iranian authors.
And how valid is the argument that Arabs lacked a literary culture when they definitely have had writing for centuries?
So really several questions I guess:
Why so many Iranian-ancestry authors relative to Arabs?
Did the Sassanian dynasty have significantly more extensive literature than has survived to the present?
What's the deal with so many Khurasani-ancestry authors?
Exmuslim who are living in Islamic countries, how do Muslims in your countries feel about their native pre-Islamic culture?
Hello Everyone,
Today is World Mental Health Day.
I really want to get a better understanding of Men’s mental health and the impact Pakistani local society has on it- Unfortunately, most of the material I have seen available online is very much western-centric and the particular niche of South Asian culture(desi) and Islam combined is almost non-existent (its either one or the other, i.e. Indian/desi men or Muslims in western society).
A lot of the issues that are a cause of anxiety and stress to men in this culture are not discussed as men are not supposed to “show emotion” or be “afraid of what life throws at them”. Plus mental health is still very much a taboo topic in a religious context. Islam is a big part of my life but it does come with its own particular issues be it inter-personal relationships, arranged marriages, a man's worth dictated by how much he earns, family dynamics-take your pick.
I would love if anyone here can share any resources-particularly articles that I should read(for overall mental health and the particular cultural context as mentioned) so I can build a better understanding).
Would also love to hear Pakistani men's opinion on male mental health given our lack of resources and if they have ever had a serious conversation regarding mental health with other men.
What's the deal with Islamic and Hellenic/Latin derived names in Tengriist rulers when you use random name option in 867 start.
Oghuz IL has more Abrahamic names than Khazars even though Khazars have an Abrahamic religion 🤦. I even saw Iskender which derives from the name Alexander. Other cultures in the group like Kimek, Cuman and Kipchak don't have this problem. I wonder if Paradox for some reason decided to take a list of names from modern Turkish for Oghuz?
-ok so I live in india and most of the females in my family do not wear a hijab or burkha the ones that do don't wear it everywhere ie only for outdoors and are ok with not wearing hijab in front of non mehrams I'm in no way judging them but I didn't know that hair shouldn't be seen by nonmehrams . When I got onto social media that's when I learnt about it
until the late 90s the abaya wasn't worn by women commonly here and instead when women went out they'd have a chadar to cover their hair
due to the large number of indian expats living in the gulf region with their families a lot of women adopted the abaya and now its seen as an Islamic thing
through social media I've also seen that women in the rest of the middle East do not wear an abaya (correct me if i am wrong) but do cover their hair
some women here are told that after u perform hajj u should wear a burqa (but it depends on the choice of women )
So is it an Islamic thing or another import of salafism / wahabbism ? I would like to know your views
I would like to get to know middle eastern classics. In all my collection I only have two middle eastern collection/book, the 1001 Arabian nights and A moorish calendar. The thing is if it's written in the last centuries, I'm not interested and I will get somewhere in the future the Al Quran, but for now I'm not looking for anything too religious if it's possible.
Thanks in advance
P.S. Thank you all for your comments, and special thanks for the award. I have now a good database of books to search and read. I did some cursory research on all the suggested books and realized that it's not going to be easy to get a hold of some of them, but my perspective is that the first thing to do to read/enjoy a book is to know its name and then somewhere/somehow in the future the opportunity to own/read the book will present itself. THANK YOU ALL
The list I compiled so far please note that I didn't (at least consciously) left any recommended book even if not entirely on the requested subject:

... keep reading on reddit ➡Was talking with another redditor and this question came up. I'm also curious as a recent convert to Islam. Replace culture with pre Islamic Arabian religion not culture.
Maybe we can educate each other?
not much more to say i just this its stupid
In the course plan of computer science there is both qatar history and Islamic culture and I just don't know what do they have to do with computer science

Will I be forced to take them? Or will there be an option to replace them with another subject?
So my world currently contains various Earth inspired cultures like the Mesoamerican Stone Age, Assyrian Iron Age, Germanic Bronze Age, Egyptian Bronze Age and Roman Iron Age, but I have been listening to a few Youtube videos of the Rashidun Caliphate and the Muslim Expansion and I really want to take inspiration from 600's AD Islamic Arabia but I don't know if it will cause offense to any Muslims if I eventually get my world published in a book or game universe etc.
I'm a big fan of the beautiful mosaics, round golden domes, archways and courtyards present in Islamic architecture.
I want to take inspiration from the Islamic Middle East but I'm concerned about causing offense and possibly getting into legal trouble (the UK's hate crime laws are utterly atrocious) if I get my world published into a book or game series.
What would be defined as purely Islamic culture? Or are both cultures intertwining?
I'm from the Indian subcontinent and I miss seeing more women wearing our traditional clothes without incorporating the hijab into it. Just 100% South Asian attire.
