The eastern fox squirrel, native to the eastern half of North America, was introduced to southern California in the early 20th century by people. It has exploded in population in urban and suburban areas, sometimes in direct conflict with the native gray squirrel.
This is Ginny & me. She is an Eastern Gray squirrel. She turns 8 years old this summer. She has been with me since she was a baby. She has her own bedroom and is very spoiled.

Help!! Found 3 orphaned Eastern Gray Squirrels (we think)
My Wife and i came home and found 3 baby eastern gray squirrels. We waited and watch to see if there mom would come get them however after almost a day she did not come. We live by a busy street, so we took them in to hydrate them and keep them safe until we found out where to take them. When we call around it sounds like because of Oregon law all animal refuges will euthanize them because they are technically a non-native squirrel. Does anyone know where we can take this squirrels to get rehabilitated and not euthanized?

Detroit's black squirrels are a genetic mutation of the Eastern Gray Squirrel. Introduced to Michigan in an effort to out-compete the larger, more-destructive, red-squirrel, they have proliferated due to their ability to stay warmer in the winter and lack of natural predators in urban areas.

I don’t know if you do squirrel IDs here but my kid found this clearly sick squirrel yesterday. Is this a Douglas squirrel? We mostly only see eastern grays around here. Located in Portland, Oregon.
