So, I'm a disaster when it comes to money, up until I found the Debtor's Anonymous program, which gives me the personal daily accountability I need to keep up with things, both financially and mentally. Yes, it's a crutch but it works, and I really love the people I meet in it.
However, I'm an atheist, and while I basically ignore the religious aspect of the program, but this leaves me in a difficult position. All 12 step programs are HIGHLY based on religion, and I don't like pretending I believe in God just because I'm in a group of people who do and I don't want to cause a scene. It's disingenuous at best. Anyway, the point of this post is - are there any other similar, nuts and bolts, accountability peer groups about finances? So many things are great about daily or weekly peer support, and it does keep me on the straight and narrow with my finances.
If you are religious, and have trouble with money or debt, I definitely recommend DA.
Hi all. I have been in recovery for 7 years in another 12 step program that has majorly changed my life. About a month ago I decided to go to a Debtors Anonymous meeting after a talk with my husband about my spending and how it's affecting our goals for the future. At first, I felt hopeful–I can do this! I know how the 12 steps work! I am so grateful to be here! And while I do still feel some of those emotions, what's been settling over me in the last couple of weeks have been really difficult. The best way I can describe it is it feels like the band-aid (for me, shopping) has been ripped off and all the feelings I shop to get away from are suddenly HERE, and I feel like I am drowning in them. I spoke to my DA sponsor this morning (i got one fast, thank god) and she reminded me that I am losing one of my best friends and biggest comforts. I cried when she said those words. It hurts so much to face that but I know it is 100 percent true. Thought I would share in case there are any other people going through something similar. You aren't alone.

"anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all out traditions" But I got recovery in Al-Anon but my money issues remained a roller coaster- so of course I crashed. I've been reading about Debtors Anonymous, a 12-step program modeled on AA but dealing with issues like debt and underearning. I think this may be for me because I am feeling especially helpless / hopeless / embarrassed / ineffective and other techniques for getting my house in order haven't worked.
I went to the DA website and did not see any meetings listed for Milwaukee proper. However, there is a Wednesday night meeting in Wauwatosa that I could attend, though the information looks a bit stale (last updated March 2014).
Was just wondering if anyone has any experience with local DA meetings or if anyone knows whether the one on Wednesdays in Tosa is still active.

It’s been a stressful, challenging two months since I last posted. Today is sober up Monday. I’m going back to moving small change to my savings ($310.94 now, not $1,000) and making a plan to stop debting on my credit cards. This isn’t a DA Debtor’s Anonymous group, but I was doing much better in all areas when I posted more frequently. Anyone can post on how their feeling.
Doesn’t seem like there’s much participation, so let’s all save a penny a day and talk about it.

Hi all! New to the sub. I attended my first Spenders Anonymous meeting today by phone, and I felt very seen and enjoyed it. I don't see other Spenders calls available ANYWHERE in the US outside of the one I joined, and was curious if anyone else here is active in a different program that they've found helpful? I looked into Debtors Anonymous but I didn't feel like that really fit my compulsive shopping issue. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

When broken down into its simplest form, the clearing, settlement, and delivery system at the DTCC allows fraudsters to target a company, sell nonexistent shares in unlimited numbers (see, e.g., Pinnacle Business Management, Inc.), thereby creating a giant pile of money in their margin or proprietary accounts. These naked short positions at the DTCC must be collateralized at 130% but the collateral necessary is MARKED TO MARKET on a daily basis. This explains in part why you will see 100 or 200 share prints at the bid on thinly traded OTC:BB and Pink Sheets securities, especially where there are wide spreads between the bid and offer. These are referred to as "NEBBs" or non-economic bid-bangings. They are a form of market manipulation that try to paint the picture of a stock constantly being sold by shareholders but sold into bids that are extremely small i.e. there are no buyers around that want to invest in this scam. They represent a good screening tool to estimate the level of manipulation of a victim company. All one has to do is to chart the percentage of trades of an issuer that are NEBBs. The 2002 NEBB champion is well on its way to defending its crown in 2003. It is a small company called NP Energy (NPER) that trades on one of these smaller trading venues. . As the share price tumbles from the massive artificially manufactured dilution that ensues from these sales, the amount of collateral needed drops precipitously and is returned to those perpetrating the fraud. Thus the naked short sellers NEVER NEED TO COVER THESE NAKED SHORT POSITIONS in order to receive the proceeds from the sale of nonexistent stock. They just need to keep the share price pinned down to artificially low levels, which is extremely easy to do because the market makers really do "almost" assume the role of a bona fide MM when the stock previously trading at $5 now trades at a dime. At the 10-cent level there really is a long line up of opportunistic investors and nobody willing to sell "real" shares. NASD Rule 3370 encourages MMs to naked short sell into these imbalances. Thus the further along the "bear raid" matures the more "bona fide" the MM activity becomes. As the PPS continues to drop, the proceeds of the sales of nonexistent shares at the $4 and $5 level
