Albanians of reddit - is it worth visiting Albania in the summer?
Hello. I dont really know how to phrase my question, so heres that. I'm looking for a place to visit in the summer months, so decided to weigh my options :)
I visited a lot of countries in Europe, however Albania evaded me until now. Im thinking of visiting there for a holiday, the place intrigues me as it is not like any other European country. Judging by Youtube Vlogs (not a really good indicator, I know) it seems like a very specific destination where there area variety of things to see from beaches, to soviet architecture to village life, and to be honest just by the novelty factor it interests me.
The thing is- As Albania is primarily a muslim country, Im from Israel. Will it pose a problem there? I can speak 4 other languages, however Im a little bit worried that I might encourage racism there. I dont know anyone from my circle of friends that was there, so Im coming off off info on the internet.
β
Is it similar to Bulgaria and Greece? Was in both places and found them really cool. Is there a Balkan vibe in Albania too?
β
Anyway- thanks guys! Any info will be appreciated.

Turkey will built 500 houses in Albania after the Earthquake. Albanians thank you from the depth of our hearts.
President Erdogan announced yesterday that he and the state of Turkey will help to build 500 new houses in Albania.
This is actually the biggest help we have got till now.
Every Albnian, especially real Albanians thank Turkey from the bottom of our hearts.
We know that Turkey has its own economical and political problems, trying to secure it's national security and sovreignity.
We know it does not have the economical sources of Sudi Arabia o UAE.
Albanians have likmited power for now, but in whatever thing we will back you up every time.
Wish you the best.

My Friends have pulled out of my Albania (Tirana) party trip, im going solo now and want to prove a point why they shouldnt judge a book by its cover and rub it in their faces.
My friends are not happy i added Tirana as one of the destinations on our euro trip in August. I personally am very excited, having seen countless youtube videos/Blogs it looks like a blast (i am more into social scene and night life). Now the trip approaches (august 15th ) my friends are being paranoid and negative about visiting Albania, so now it looks like i may be going solo to prove a point not to judge a book by its cover..... so i need some tips on places to go at night, good clubs and bars, bottle service prices and beach parties (i have some local friends who i met online that are planning to take me out aswell). I plan to blog my travels and hopefully also shine some light on this underrated and over looked destination :)

Why is Albania composed of Albanians and not Slavs?
NB:
I am NOT asking "Why was Albania not in Yugoslavia?" The answer to that is that Albanians are not Slavs and Slavs are a different peoples and are a majority in Yugoslavia.
Rather I'm asking why is Albania not a Slavic country in the first place? How did Slavs manage to settle along the Adriatic coast in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro and yet not Albania?
Was it because the Albanians had settled Albania before the Slavs came to be in Yugoslavia? If that was the case then how come the Albanians didn't spread to the other regions of the future Yugoslavia before the Slavs arrived?
If the Albanians arrived in Albania after the Slavs settled Yugoalavia then why didn't the Slavs settle Albania before the Albanians arrival?
In the pre-20th century world why did the Slavs not try and over run and conquer the much smaller Albania? Or if they did try and conquer them then how did the much smaller Albania manage to resist this?
Finally, if the Slavs and Albanians settled their respective modern day areas at the same time then how did they come to be in those particular areas? How did a tiny pocket of a different peoples (Albanisns) somehow settle north of Greece and west of Macedonia? They were surrounded by different people groups so how did they end up there and where did they come from? Also how did the southern Slavs end up in the Balkans away from the other major Slav countries of Russia, Belarus and Ukraine?

r/travel Region of the Week: 'Balkans (South) - Albania, Macedonia + Bulgaria'
Hey travellers!
In this new series of weekly threads we want to focus on regions that have a lot to offer to travellers: the towns, nature, and other interesting places whether they are lesser or more known. If more known provide more in depth suggestions like tours, things to do, places to eat, etc.
Please contribute all and any questions / thoughts / suggestions / ideas / stories / highlights about this travel destination, whether it be places you want to see or experiences you have had.
This post will be archived on our wiki destinations page and linked in the sidebar for future reference, so please direct any of the more repetitive questions there. Please click here for list and dates of future destinations. If you notice an area of a region is not listed it is likely it will be a future topic or it may have been a prior topic as a country or city. Please focus on the specific regions in the submission unless it was not a prior or future topic.
Only guideline: If you link to an external site, make sure it's relevant to helping someone travel to this city. Please include adequate text with the link explaining what it is about and describing the content from a helpful travel perspective.
> Example: We really enjoyed the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California. It was $35 each, but there's enough to keep you entertained for whole day. Bear in mind that parking on site is quite pricey, but if you go up the hill about 200m there are three $15/all day car parks. Monterey Aquarium
