A list of puns related to "Albanian Language"
The "Formula e PagΓ«zimit" from 1462, was discovered and published in 1915 by Nicolae Iorga, 1453-1576, Bucharest.
Another Romanian scholar, Dumitru Todericiu, discovered in 1967 an even older text written in Albanian. He studied microfilms of the Bellifortis manuscript (particularly the text found in the Museum of Chantilly Castle, France) written by Konrad Kyeser around 1380-1405. On page 153v he discovered a text insertion in a weird language. Until then, scholars considered it as a text without an actual meaning, written in an artificial language (see image on the right):
11 ? racha Yze ivenie zabel ? dayte dayti
12 dayze yan yon yan
18 Pagam ragma mathy zagma? perbra
19 Ista aus ausker auskary austkarye zyma bomchay
20 Zewestmus lisne zehanar zehanara zensa
21 Eahem viliant adolcten zeth dorchene zehat stochis
23 Lipre zehamar zehanara zehayssa
29 Deo Gracias
Dumitru Todericiu and professor Dumitru Polena from Bucharest used the small Albanian-German "dictionary" of Arnold von Harff (around 1496-1499), containing 26 words, 8 phrases and 12 numerals, to decipher the text in old Albanian, and after 4 month of working, the following text resulted (in modern Albanian):
11 raha yzΓ« (i) nΓ©en n (ie) zabel ? da yt e da yt (t) i
12 da yzΓ« (u) jan jon jan
18 pa ka (ra) ma madhy za gma (nga) ? perbrai
19 Isht (a) ay za (u) ska ra skari ay skary e qima bomche
20 QΓ©'vesht t'mus lish (n) e qΓ« hana (r) qi hana re qen sa
21 E ahem mu lia n't'a do le kten q'eth dΓΆrchen a zeh at stochis
23 Lip rezeh a marqΓ«hana ra qΓ« ha isha
In English, that is:
A star has fallen in a place inside a forest, distinguish it!
Distinguish the star (from the others); they are ours!
Can you see where the big thunder (/sound/voice) has fallen nearby?
That thunder. (But) it didn't hit (it didn't fallen hitting), it didn't hit, it, which would do
Not to let your ear to believe that the Moon has fallen then,
Try to pull out your hand and grab the one that throws the jet far away;
Ask (invoke) light, if the Moon has fallen and is no longer now
I know sankrit has like 10 and greek has 2 unofficial ones, but how that many other languages dont have them?
Hello, im a romanian that wants to learn Albanian but im not sure where would be a good place to start. Any advice is welcome!
So my family heritage is largely Albanian, but my grandparents were all about embracing being βAmericanβ and speaking English. Now that I am an adult, Iβve been attempting to understand my history and have ordered some language workbooks to learn to speak Albanian. I wondered if anyone might be interested in doing regular Zoom meetings where I could practice. I am starting from absolute zero so would need some patience but I would like to make a trip to Albania and being able to speak some would be great.
I'd also be fascinated to know if place names can also be modified other ways (in addition to wordplay or slang), like whether it's possible to say stuff like "TiranΓ«z/TiranicΓ«/Tiranuke", or other diminutive etc. forms
I wanted to announce that a YouTube channel was created and any requests or video suggestions will be taken and considered to be put into the channel in the Albanian language and translated at the bottom in English the topics we will be uploading will be economics investment and sometimes politics (Trying to actually understand the politicians that are good at talking but that never do anything that we want. ) Let's do this! :D.
Since in Romanian we can already see some Albanian words.
Also my previous post was removed idk why
My mother is from Kosovo and she never taught me the language when I was young so I only have a very rudimentary understanding of the language. Are there any online/other resources available where I would be able to teach myself the language? Preferably centered around Kosovo dialect. Thank you for any responses
Linguists believe even though Albanian is a language isolate in the Indo-European tree, that itβs closest distant relatives are the Germanic languages.
Albanians also are the least Slavic population in the Balkans and are the most genetically βwesternβ group when run on Gedmatch and Global25.
Is there an ancient connection between them and Germanic populations?
The title is clear.

Hello dear Albanians,
So, as the title says, songs in Albanian. Iβd be really grateful if you, dear Albanians, would write your top 3 (or more! Thereβs no limit) songs in Albanian language only. Year, genre, controversy, popularity β it all doesn't matter. All that matters is that you feel this song, it is special for you and it speaks to you.
A song that your uncle used to play on every family gathering and you used to hate it but later actually thought that there is something cool about it? Bring it here. A song from your region that is so specific even people from other regions think itβs weird? Excellent, bring it here. An old folk song about going on a war and leaving beautiful girl and old parents? Bring it here. A song that used to be popular 50 years ago but nowadays even older people donβt listen to it because the song is unacceptably unlistenable? Awesome, bring it here. A song for supporting your national football team? Bring it here. A song... well, you got the point.
The only criteria for the song β it must be in Albanian. Dialect, literary form or spoken β doesn't matter.
Also, please provide youtube links, if possible.
Hey guys, I've started working in Albania almost a month ago. I thought English was enough but as it seems it's not so I was searching for language courses in Elbasan but all I can find is English courses. Do you guys know a course that I can attend?
I'm asking this after reading about this a lot as of late
I'm a Romanian native that can speak fluently all the major Romance languages (French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese) and I've tried to read a text in Albanian, but I couldn't understand a thing. So, please explain to me, how are this 2 languages even remotely close?
There are approx. 10,000 Albanians in Romania, of whom only 1000 speak the language.
Is there anything problematic with those languages? Why did they do wrong?
Hello,
I want to start learning albanian and I'm looking for an "official" book that teaches and explains well grammar, that have some exercises. Like I have for learning english or french with books to reach A2, B1 levels ... Is there something known like this ?
Thanks in advance !
Hi everybody, I'm looking to learn Albanian. I can't find any useful and complete resources to learn (either free or paid).
My mother tongue is Italian, so I'd prefer to have it as a learning one. But I can also learn it using English.
Any advice? Thank you.
This paper doubts that Caucasian Albanians were a specific ethnic group. "Albanian" probably was a collective term to refer to various groups that lived in the region, or possibly a designation for a certain socio-cultural class in the region.
There really isn't any reason to suppose that the surviving "Albanian" language written in the Mashtotsian alphabet was actually Albanian. It is a Lezgic language related to Udi (presumably this Udi relative was called "Gargarian"), but the script might have been used for other languages spoken in Albania as well. It should not be assumed that this is the Albanian language or that there ever was an Albanian language.
Additionally, the name "Albania" is probably a Hellenized form of an Iranian name. Aghvank would be an Armenized form of this Iranian name.
So there were Lezgics, Iranians, probably Armenians and Georgians, and maybe even other groups living in Albania.
