A list of puns related to "Athens Academy (school)"
Are there any extant sources that indicate what daily life was like in the academy? What kind of people attended? Is there any context for its role in peoples' lives? How comparable was it to modern institutions of formal education?
Has anyone heard of the Athens Sailing Academy? Any experience with them?
I am considering taking the "mile builder" course which includes ASA 105/106
Well, we're only 13 eps in and we already have a clip show? The budget must have been really, really low for the first season! Which is pretty obvious when we consider how the mighty ancient metropolis of Athens is represented. To be fair whilst many series do clip shows and they're almost always incredibly bad I honestly think that Xena and Hercules do them better than anyone else, in fact the Hercules clip shows are my favourite of the entire series and the only one's I've ever watched more than once. However this is early days and we haven't quite got there yet.
So we have our first real episode with Gabby by herself, Xena plays very little role other than in flashback. We see that Gabby has been informed by Xena of all the events before they met. We also see her being paid for her bard skills in the tavern, that was always a question, how do they fund themselves? Did Xena keep all her warlord loot from the bad old days? We also have Xena saying that Gabby is like a sister to her and letting her pursue her dream.
The rest is all pretty fun, I always thought the issue with Gabby joining the Academy was her being a girl but one on re-watching we see there are other female bards competing. Nice gag with Homer closing his eyes, he was known as the blind bard. Interestingly the one tale Gabby doesn't tell him is of Helen of Troy. Can't believe they got permission to use clips from Spartacus, Tony Curtis, Laurence Olivier, Kirk Douglas and all plus Steve Reeves giving his interpretation of Hercules which is very different to Kevin Sorbo. Of course this makes no sense historically but the Xenaverse never did. Stallonus is a nice gag too. Lastly we have Dean O'Gorman as Homer who'll recur on Xena and play Young Iolaus in both Hercules and Young Hercules.
7/10
This is disgusting when Clarke-County schools are struggling and won't stay open for full-time teaching, which will damage the lives of children and destroy the careers (and sanity) of their parents. F*ck Betsy DeVos.
Where is Flagpole? This needs to be in the newspaper.
