My Grandfather (God rest him) was WWII Vet (Battle of Burma) and a detective in the NYPD from the 50's to the 80's. He used to pull his kids from school whenever it came to the P.S. 30 field trip to sing Christmas carols to cheer up the sick kids at Willowbrook. For the longest amount of time, he absolutely refused to explain to his kids why they would get pulled out of school during that field trip.
It wasn't until they all started going to High School that my grandpa explained my Uncle Todd (the oldest brother of the 7 children) why he refused to let them go anywhere near that place.
According to him, he got called in on a case where one of the young male patients murdered a young girl. He saw the living conditions of Building No. 6. It horrified him more than what he saw during the war.
But for the life of me, I can't find any details of any patients killing other patients at Willowbrook. And it definitely wasn't Andre Rand. Andre was never a patient. Just wondering if anyone might be know anything about this story my grandpa told my uncle.
