I've seen mixed opinions about most web hosting services and it's all a bit hectic. What works.

I have developed a GIS application in Shiny R to investigate climate change impacts. Am ready to deploy, but need advice on web-hosting.

1. Basically, a user request involves hundreds of large raster maps, and doing several million calculations on the raster files on-demand.
2. Not to deter users (I am in the non-profit sector) I want to ensure maximum performance. At the moment, the local deployment of the App on my high-powered notebook takes between 90 seconds for a single geographical region and 600 seconds for the world! I am a proficient R-coder, and see no real way to optimize my code further.
3. I would need to store 200 gb of raster images, and have them "served" as files (i.e., file server) for processing on-demand by the user.
4. Have looked into shinyapps.io, but am not sure about performance. AWS EC2 seems very expensive, unless I have not understood well their pricing calculator.

Please advise me, and forgive me in advance for not doing enough background research. I have a horrible deadline...

• If you’re looking at VPSes: Do you have experience administrating linux servers and infrastructure? No, I'm looking for something simple and very customizable.
• Did you read the sidebar/check out the hosts listed there? I've personally vetted these companies and their services are a good fit for 99% of people. Yes I did, but I wanted to ask and see if there are other options. I have not ruled those out however.

Also, I want to add if I can get a domain with the web host as well for a good price, that would be awesome.

I'm making a small website for myself (basically a portfolio) and I'm trying to find web hosting. I know one person who's experienced in the space and they recommended something called one dot come. So far I like what they have to offer, but I'd like to know from anyone else, is this service worth it? Do you have experience with these guys? My friend's experience was good, but I'm not sure of any negatives (and I always try and look for at least one).

I’m available for setting up a VPS or server of yours with tor. You’ll have a fully functioning hidden service on your Linux or {Free,Open}BSD system. It can be a forum, a normal website, Wordpress blog or whatever you like, as long as the content is legal.
I can set up Monero daemon to work with tor too!

I only want to host a basic html website (no css or js) but all the options I can find come with Wordpress support which no doubt I would be paying a premium for. Are there any services which offer more favourable prices for someone just looking to host a website from a directory of html files and a couple pngs? Thanks.

Background and Motivation

I felt the need to write this guide because I couldn't find one that clearly explained how to make this work. This is also my first post to r/homelab, and my first homelab how-to guide on the interwebs! Looking forward to your feedback and suggestions on how it could be improved or clarified. I am by no means a network pro - I do this stuff in my free time as a hobby.

An Argo tunnel is akin to a SSH or VPS tunnel, but in reverse: An SSH or VPS tunnel creates a connection INTO a server, and we can use multiple services through that on tunnel. An Argo tunnel creates an connection OUT OF our server. Now, the server's outside entrance lives everywhere on Cloudflare’s vast worldwide network, instead of a specific IP address. The critical difference is that by initiating the tunnel from inside the firewall, the tunnel can lead into our server without the need of any open firewall ports.

How cool is that!?

Benefits:

1. No more port forwarding: No port 80 and/or 443 need be forwarded on your or your ISP's router. This solution should be very helpful with ISPs that use CGNAT, which keeps port forwarding out of your reach, or ISPs that block http/https ports 80 and 443, or ISPs that have their routers locked down.

Afaiu, using GPL to license a web based project is basically useless and does not prevent anyone to fork, close and host your code. AGPL is desgined for this.

It is not like someone is going to package and send a binary of the project to someone else.

If I buy a domain name name from Vercel or a similar web hosting platform, is there any way I can register an email address to it? I need one email address to send emails with SendGrid and I plan to use Vercel for hosting the website anyway, so if this is possible then it would be the easiest solution.

So I’ve used Vercel and Netlify to deploy some React apps and had an amazingly pleasant experience with how seamless it is to manage app deployments. I’ve also seen products like Laravel Forge and Vapor and several third party services that handle various frameworks, but rarely if ever handle .NET.

In our world, I’d think it’s generally a more manual process with, for example, AWS using EC2, Lambdas, Fargate etc or some Azure equivalent. Maybe you take it up a notch and and set it all up in terraform etc.

Regardless, I’m curious if anyone knows of any services like Vercel that might take away a lot of the infra burden when deploying .NET web apis.
