Si durante una parte del 2020 o un todo del 2021 prestaste una cuota de atención, puede ser que hayas notado como absolutamente todo el mundo se volvió rico de la noche a la mañana jugando jueguitos crypto, que con un NFT por acá y coleccionando estas otras cartas por allá lograban una renta mensual de miles de dólares, pero como persona crítica que sos, intuiste que era todo una estafa, un esquema ponzi ligeramente más sofisticado, o simplemente una burbuja inflada a pulmón y tiktoks, ¿pero sabés que? Y… sí, algo de razón todo eso hay.
Gamefi (una conjunción de las palabras game y finanzas), es uno de los términos preferidos para referirse al submundo criptográfico de los videojuegos en la Blockchain. La idea de ganar dinero jugando videojuegos no es nueva, los primeros torneos datan de la década de los 70, y habiendo el DOTA 2 repartido más de 230 millones de dólares en premios. Y no sólo los torneos nos han dejado formas de ganar dinero, con los años se fue ampliando el mercado a otros servicios como el de vender cuentas, boostear cuentas ajenas (cuando jugás con la cuenta de otra persona para subirle su nivel/ranking), o incluso ya existen alternativas donde la moneda existente dentro del juego puede ser canjeada por dinero fiduciario.
Y todo ese progreso exponencial nos trae al año 2017, con la creación de lo que hoy llamamos “el primer juego crypto”, CryptoKitties. Genuinamente no es un juego del cual valga mucho la pena expandirse en las mecánicas o jugabilidad, basta con saber que en la red Ethereum se podían comprar esos NFTs que te daban acceso al juego.
Empezando con el enfoque financiero, además de las herramientas mencionadas en el segundo párrafo y de algunas más que genuinamente no recuerdo en estos momentos, los Juegos Crypto traen consigo nuevas formas de ganar dinero con los videojuegos, creando un nuevo género de P2E (Play to Earn, jugar para ganar), y otros tantos que no involucran jugar sino el invertir en el juego. Paso a detallar.
Lo más importante a la hora de hablar de gamefi son los tokens, ya que esta movida también fue llamada en algún momento “la tokenizazción de los videojuegos” -o puede que nunca se haya llamado así y esté tirando fruta ahora, pero no importa-, ya que es esta mecánica la que permite que uno tome el rol de inversor en los juegos, como así también es la dinámica por la cual uno puede ganar dinero
