A list of puns related to "Codex"
NFO (90.19 GB)
So apparently the massive rumor from a very reliable source (same team leaking the Eldar stuff, leaked this stuff, GSC, etc) are saying that we have almost immediate changes in our points when the Manufactorum book drops. This book will fix keywords for FW as well as rebalance points for codex and FW units.
Iβm split on this - while I know that if we had our codex in December this would feel a lot less crappy, but at the same token this is some day one DLC horseshit. On the flip side - if these rumors are true this fixes many of the small gaps that were seen. Angry that guard only have three attacks - everyone gets free misercordia lol. Points reductions almost across the board with one or two increases (like blade champion). So while Iβm happy for points drops, Iβm miffed itβs so close to codex drop.

Just curious about us Chaos Space Marines players hopes and dreams.
Just watched a really nice video by Auspex Tactics on WH40k balance, where he discussed internal and external viability, competitive and casual aspects, as well as different ways of balancing: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=amhOt13OBjg
In that light, here are a few quotes from confirmed 9th edition Aeldadi codex playtesters on Discord:
"- Codex is way too strong in playtest. Except nerfs on print and FAQs."
"- Level compared with other codexes?" "- Like Drukhari on release. Or Admech on release. But with more entries."
"- What's the most busted thing?" "- Whole codex, never saw this in 9th."
What's your opinion on this matter?
The community appears to be split in this regard. Some players want a strong but reasonably balanced codex on release, while others would like a busted book to utterly stomp their opponents before the inevitable nerfs. I'm personally in the former camp, but I guess GW decided to go with the later option when it comes to Aeldari. Which camp are you in and why?
When it comes to nerfs, which way would you prefer the Aeldari to get nerfed? Dataslate restricting rules? Points going up in FAQ? Something else? My personal preference would be the appropriate point costs FAQd on release (or soon after release) to make Aeldari feel like an elite technologically-advanced army in line with the lore. What's your take?
EDIT: if you are down-voting, please explain why. Maybe I'm missing something important? I'm a fairly new community member, and eager to learn :-)
I've had a good read of the leaked French version of the Custodes 9e codex now, and I have to say, we're fine.
I'll start with the cons:
We lose a number of powerful stratagems such as Superior Fire Patterns, Vexilla Teleport Homer and Auramite & Adamantium.
Our bikes lose Objective Secured.
All but one of our 3+ invuln options are gone, and that one remaining is limited to once per battle.
We have no way of dealing well with -1 damage effects other than D3 relics and Trajan, EDIT: and Valerian, our boi ignores damage reductions now.
However, we have gained a number of at least decent things:
FREE axes and swords, and cheaper Allarus. The points reduction off those will free up space for a few more models.
More competitive relics and warlord traits across the board. Far fewer "must picks" in my opinion, and most are still strong despite nerfs.
Flexible abilities through our Martial Ka'tah and Shield Host tactics and stratagems.
A base Shield Host with tactics that allows for dodging MWs, abundant rerolls and even more flexibility: 1CP to changing Shield Host tactics on a whim is quite powerful.
An overall increase in lethality through extra strength and flat damage.
Overall, while I will certainly complain that we feel a bit more like "Golden Space Marines" thematically, our new strength will come through how flexible we can be. A lot of our new shortcomings feel like they will be able to be worked around by running 2 or more detatchments using different Shield Hosts, for instance. Overall we're just going to need to be more creative, and probably agressive, in how we play, but we may still be quite well placed.
Think we should be patient and wait for Forgeworld erratas too. Those will still be entirely useable and viable too, in spite losing the CORE keyword.
AND AT WORST, remember our faction is entirely playable in Horus Heresy, where we are basically so busted its barely funny.
I'm off to build some lists now.
Wouldn't it be more sensible for a space marine chapter to be restricted to 10,000 space marines in the codex Astartes? 1000 marines is too small of a force to be effective and too much of a reduction from the original legions that ranged from 50000 to 350000 marines that also had default support from baseline human regiments.

This confirms some recent recent rumours that imperial guard units and the fragdrill are no longer in the codex. For any GSC players like me with Russes, Chimeras, and Sentinels - I hope you have under 500pts worth!
Not many significant point reductions, some increases, and Abominants have been moved from HQ to Elite.

Here are the new per-unit upgrades including the Primus ability already shown on Warcom
For what it's worth, I've done 11 games on TTS (basically slept like 4 hours over the last 2 days) vs a variety of armies and player skills and I'd like to give you some feedback on how the codex plays out.
I'm going to be writing some posts this week to cover the more in depth systems and approaches and update my 8th codex posts to reflect the new codex also... as Twisted Helix is still crap... (kidding).
Internal balance - Every unit has its place and viability. There's nothing in the codex I would not field and this is really something. All characters especially bring something, even the saboteur and with 1 strat, she can have 2 forms of mortals onto one objective. Every unit has its purpose and place.
Different playstyles - Thanks to cults and internal balance, you can play a wide range of different playstyles and i'd say most have merit. Want a vehicle only list? Go for it. Want to spam bodies? Go for it. Alpha strike potential? Go for it. 3x10 blob skew in abbies/bikes etc? Go for it. There's so much potential.
Blips - This is huge for me; keeping blips not only kept our identity as an army, but our resistance to turn 1 alpha strikes. They're here to stay and we're thankful.
Psychic powers - Oh lord. So a lot of people told me they were nerfed and I think that's incorrect. Mass Hypnosis now is better because it really limits the opponents efficiency when fighting back. Psychic stimulus doesn't give fight first but you can now SHOOT and CHARGE when advancing or falling back - absolutely huge. The cult ones are mostly good - undermine and the bladed cog one are standouts for me.
Cults - They're all really good and each one can alter how you play your game. Be creative, test each one (ironically I haven't) and figure out what fits your play style. Personally I am 100% set on the custom cults. Just because they lack warlord trait, strat and power doesn't mean they're bad, Imo they are way more viable competitively.
8th Weaknesses - Our weaknesses have not really been addressed. Our ability to hold an objective has not improved because we only have obsec on two units essentially (I'm ignoring guardsman, as should you) and they are our easiest to kill units. There is a way to remove obsec with the clamavus but the question is, how do you fill an objective and survive to the point where this becomes relevant, without sacrificing too many points? We still have the same struggles, but there are ways
... keep reading on reddit β‘A career counsellor said that I should teach math (my other possible career goal) rather than go into software development, since the rise of no code tools and machine learning code generation will mean that I won't have a job in 10-15 years. There is so much hype about this that I thought I'd ask the opinions of those here that know what they're talking about.
Thank you
Iβve just finished my first two matches with our new codex and Iβm keen to hear about others experiences. My first impression is that our codex is solid. Our skill floor dropped, but our skill ceiling increased dramatically. My key takeaways;
Positive
Β· 1CP transhuman and emperorβs auspice is an incredibly potent defensive mix.
Β· Bikes D3+3 guns are really good and fill an important anti-tank niche we didnβt really have before.
Β· Shadowkeepers is a solid shield host and its relic/warlord trait are game-defining.
Β· Galatas are still incredible strong despite losing Grim Responsibility and Eternal Penitent.
Β· Sisters of Silence fill an important niche. The Knight-Centura with Silent Judge is criminally cheap and effective.
Β· Trajann and the Blade Champions are beat sticks and Trajannβs buffs for CP regen, changing katah orders and re-rolls shouldnβt be underestimated.
Negatives
Β· Loss of obsec on the bikes is huge loss. Across two games this would have flipped an objective 3 turns!
Β· Martial Kaβtahs are not as strong as I had thought before the games. They are useful but not powerful.
Β· The custodes secondaries seem niche and not usable in most situations.
Β· I still struggled for a third secondary choice and now our telemons are weaker, I feel like I am struggling for a second without TTL.
Β· Losing swooping dive has bigger strategic implications than I thought, because now my opponent doesnβt have to continuously play around it.
What have your key takeaways been? List for context below. I played an armiger spam knights list (won 78-52) and Incubi / Wytch Drukhari (won 59-58).

Right now, a lot of CWE players are playing Expert Crafters out of necessity; however, in 9th edition codexes, named subfactions are usually superior (or at least on par) compared to custom ones.
We don't know the full rules yet (so we can't predict the most competitive options), but we do know that a powerful Strands of Fate mechanic will limit your whole army to a single Craftworld (unless you are ready to leave Strands of Fate aside).
Based on the lore and the incomplete glimpses of traits that we have so far ( https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT6v-0H0GC49oxoZRml4uqIh-mDJOG1qfxvyw&usqp=CAU ), which Craftworld excites you the most and why?
For me, it's Ulthwe, since I like Eldrad, psychic phase and Guardians. My paint scheme might also be considered acceptable in some nonconformist part of this revered and powerful Craftworld.
What about you?
Put other options on the comments
I know weβve had a lot of cycles of theory crafting about what Necrons need to get out of tier 4 as a faction, but it occurred to be that there is one thing I havenβt seen that might be legit.
What if some of the support characters we have were moved out of HQ slots and into Elite? Royal Wardens for example feel more like some of the marine Elite solo models. If we had the ability to bring a little more support it might open up list flexibility for more combined arms options in a single battalion.
I think a solid argument could be made for Crypteks and Royal Wardens being moved to an Elite slot, but Iβm curious what the rest of you think?
Seeing a lot of doomer talk and worry about the new codex. Frankly haven't been here a lot, but can't we just wait a teeeeny bit for the codex to release instead of listening to rumors and claiming we'll be a terrible army already?
Yes, we see a few things from Warhammer Community, but I wouldn't really believe the unconfirmed rumors, since someone already claimed that Brood Brothers would be removed, and literally the day after we see the new Brood Brother rules.
Cheers. I'm sure it'll be a great boost to our play in 9th anywho.
$84 aud for a bloody book wtf is that. Why.
Thanks to the reviews and leaks I was able to play a game with the new custodes codex today (mostly). And it was...
Pretty dang fun. The martial ka tahs are quite nice and are pretty good. Me not having to bring storm shields all the time for the durability was so liberating and has made me think about units I haven't really looked at. I tended to stick with arcan genetic alchemy and Emporer's auspice for my Stratagem usage but I'll get to use more as time goes on. Ngl I was feeling a bit bummed by the codex because I thought we lost our lore feel, it's not perfect but the codex is good and fun to play with. At the end of the day isn't that what it's all about.
I look forward to diving further into the codex and finding some fun combos I can pull off!
All of them.
End of review.
