A list of puns related to "Used Book Sale"
My library holds these a few times per year. People donate their old books and the library sells them for $1 (mass market paperbacks) or $2 (everything else). There's a "members preview night" the night before if you join "friends of the library". I 'm a member. I showed up 15 minutes after the preview sale opened, and discovered that there were people who had already accumulated boxes and boxes of books, easily numbering in the hundreds. Turns out they're dealers who use apps to find everything they can sell at a profit They are incredibly efficient. The apps scan the book's barcode and present a score. If the score is high enough, they put them into their bag. They don't ned to read the jacket or even care what the book is about. They just have to pick up the book and find the barcode.
They have every right to do this, and they don't interfere with you. In fact, I admire their efficiency. But you can be assured that all of the most desirable books are picked through in the first hour or so of the preview sale. If you get there first thing, you have a shot of getting to books before they're gone.
I got really excited when I saw all of the $5 books today. I checked out in a hurry and didnβt realize that the two credits I had got applied towards my purchase. The only option to contact audible right now is to send an email (which I did). Has anyone had this happen before? What do you think my chances are of getting my credits back and being able to use a credit card for my sale book purchases as I had intended?
Went to a big used book sale yesterday that's put on twice a year by the local park district. The doors opened at 10, I got there around 10:15, and what do I find? It's busy, sure, but a lot of people were just walking around with scanners on their phones piling up their boxes and bags
Needless to say there wasn't too much left that interested me, and I only ended up buying three books. This isn't the first time I've run into this problem, either at this book sale or others. I wish there was a way to stop people like this, but I imagine any sort of rule would be tough to implement
I love buying used, especially at sales like this where the prices are usually really good, but flippers suck the joy out of it
Anyone know of any events, swap meets, etc. to browse and buy used books? The local libraries have their used book racks but the pickings are pretty slim. I seem to recall a few years ago there being a big annual used book swap meet at some of the Fairfax county libraries, but canβt find any information about it. Loudoun county would be great too.
Today's the last day of the sale. I'm wondering if it's worth going since everything good was probably already snatched up.
Did anyone else already go? How was it? What did you get (if anything)?
Hello librarians,
I just went to a book sale at my library (LA Central) and I noticed that there were people there using scanners and some app (presumably telling them if the book was of worthwhile monetary value on the secondary market) going shelf by shelf, taking all of the "good" books. What are your thoughts on that? I suspect that libraries don't really care since the goal is to get rid of those withdrawn books. But as a reader looking for a good deal on great literature, it personally bums me out that I'm being beaten out not by a fellow lover of books but by a living Amazon algorithm.
On the plus side, I did get a great condition copy of The Theban Plays by Sophocles and a couple of excellent paperbacks to help complete my small collection of the Aubrey & Maturin series by Patrick O'Brien. On the super ultra mega bad side, I hesitated for 5 minutes on a beautiful, near mint condition complete 7 volume copy of Gibbon's The History of The Decline and Fall of The Roman Empire, and someone else bought it. I could cry.
Saw it on both Twitter and Instgram. 2nd and Charles, which is a store that buys and sells used books, movies, comic books, records as well as sells new items is having a big sale for the weekend. Buy 5 used books, get 5 free.
It is located at the former Borders location on Churchmans Road.
Buyback doesn't give you a whole lot in cash. You will get more in store credit. They have recently shrunk their movie and CD sections so they aren't buying a lot back. YMMV.

I have a bunch of books in my apartment that Iβve read, and I just donβt have the space to keep them all like Iβd like. I know of a few places in NYC that allow you to sell them books, but wanted to see if there might be a better online option.
Anyone know of any good sites that buy used books? Iβd rather not have to individually list on eBay or something like that - rather Iβd like something where I can possibly just send a whole box at once to an organization.

it doesn't necessarily have to be a "i got this book for 50 cents and it turned out to be worth hundreds!" kind of thing, although if that's your personal "best" find that's fine. i've just got back from the local flea market and i am FREAKING OUT. this is by far the greatest thing i've ever found at a place like this. not even specifically book related. i found the entire survivalist by jerry ahern series for $10! i can't get across how happy i am right now. last summer i found the first 11 in audiobook form and blew threw them before summer was out. these aren't great award winning kind of things. they are just 80s B-action-movies in book form and i'm a sucker for this kind of thing. i've never seen a single physical book of this series before (i know i could get them from amazon, but i have a hard time spending "regular" prices on more than a book or two at a time.) and i just stumbled on the ENTIRE SERIES. i just...god. i'm so insanely pumped right now and i needed to yell this info at people who wont really care, so i picked here to do it!
Briarlake Elementary's annual used book sale is coming up fast on Friday, Jan 31st from 3 - 6 pm and Saturday, Feb 1st from 9 am - 1 pm. In order to sell a great selection of adult & child fiction, non-fiction, CDs, DVDs, games, etc., we request community donations. We have a particular need for books for kids in the 2nd-5th grade range, but will take pretty much anything that isn't falling apart or texts that are so out of date that they are unsellable. We also take DVDs or video/computer games, but not VCR tapes. Donations can be dropped off at the school (3590 Lavista Road, Decatur, Georgia 30033). If you have a large donation and live reasonably nearby, we can arrange for a pickup (private message me). Please do not drop off during carpool (7-8a or 2-3p M-F). If you drop off after hours, please make sure books are to either side of the front door so as not to block doors or walkways. Donations accepted now through the morning of Jan 31st!
And don't forget to come shop on Friday, Jan 31st from 3 - 6 pm and Saturday, Feb 1st from 9 am - 1 pm! Books are just 50 cents to $2 (1/2 price the last hour!) Itβs always a super fun treasure hunt and benefits a fantastic little public school. Proceeds go to Briarlake's PTA for materials, equipment, and academic enrichment.
