How does it work? You feed it with emc, you put in an item to learn what you can make with it, then do you need materials to make those items or do you only use up the emc you fed the table with? Am i right?

Hello all! I'm trying to figure out a book I read around 2004 in grade school.

The book is a teen fantasy genre with some scifi elements. The plot involves three protags (2 boys and 1 girl) who are from different planets (maybe time periods?) and discover they each have a different type of power.

One boy was on an Earth-like planet or Earth and had incredible "luck". In fact he was able to change whatever he was holding into what he needed. If playing a game a cards, if he touched one and flipped it over, it would be the card he needed in order to win the bet.

The other boy had the ability to comprehend chemistry? Not sure if a power or he was just incredible retentive of anything he studied. I remember a part where he and the other two get captured and he's able to destroy the lock that's holding them in their cell. I don't remember much else about him.

The girl was one of the top soldiers? knights? warrior? On her planet. Her power was that she was a superb fighter, but in actuality she had the ability to see into the very near future and predict her opponent's moves therefore making her an excellent fighter.

There is a point when they all meet on one planet and have to work together to stop this big bad (sorry don't remember much here, either) but I remember the closer they got to the Sun the strong their powers got? Maybe it was closer to a planet or some other star.

The last thing I remember is a part where all three of them are fighting and an arrow gets shot at the girl protag and before it's able to hit her, the boy with luck/transmutation is able to change the arrow (from a distance instead of touching it) and it turns into flowers or flower petals and doesn't harm the girl.

I feel this may be wrong, but I had a feeling it was part of the Scholastic book club stuff schools used to have at book fairs? I can try to dig up more information as I'm also asking my friends, but no one seems to remember. Thank you so much for your help!

Please consider changing rule #6. I love this sub, but the recent influx of NSFW tagged posts that get all the upvotes, just seem wrong when there are good solid DAD jokes being overlooked because of them.
