A list of puns related to "Tippet"
I am too loyal at times, it can cloud my judgement. I am curious as to what you think of coach Tippet. I see that many of you are down on him or outrightly despise him.
So in your opinion, where has he failed the team?
Fish dumb
For Christmas I got my first tenkara rod, a TenkaraUSA Sato, and I’m absolutely smitten. It’s also my first foray into fly fishing and I’m getting my head around that world as well. I’m confident it’s heavy enough for panfish and 12” rainbows, however I’m in the Lake Erie basin and would like to try after some steelhead in the spring run. Can this rod handle those big fatties? Same question with the 5x tippet - can that handle a 24” steelhead?
Hello everyone! I'm a total beginner, used to fish when I was a kid but that was about 30 years ago. I decided to get back to it and see if I still like it. I'm going to fish in saltwater from the shore or pier. I'll start with an old borrowed rod and reel and, if I get hooked, I'm going to invest into something better.
I'd love to get some saltwater bass (I'm set on soft plastic lures and jigheads) and around here there should be plenty of bream (gilt head, cow, two banded, saddle), leerfish, conger and maybe some flounder.
The bottom here can get about 20ft deep pretty close to shore and it's very rocky. I have on hand some new monofilament and fluorocarbon which I plan to use.
I've been reading a bunch of beginners guides and watching some youtube videos but I'm not sure I understand exactly what kind of setup I need regarding leaders and tippets. Is the tippet needed only for fly fishing? Should I have a long leader connected to the main line with a swivel and tie it directly on the hook? Or do I need to have a leader AND a shorter tippet tied to the hook?
Also, sorry for any naming mistakes. The jargon can get confusing for a non native speaker. :)
I really want to watch Mad God, but it isn’t available anywhere. The film festival screenings are over, and there is no word on where/when it will be released for everyone. This is very frustrating, and I am beginning to worry it will never be available. Does anyone know if there is a way to watch it currently or in the future?
Az elmúlt években beszűkült a médiafogyasztási profilom, és úgy érzem, hogy nagyon egyoldalúvá vált. Ezen változtatni szándékozom. Ilyen háttérrel kérdezem:
Melyik szerintetek a legelviselhetőbb / legolvashatóbb
médium.
Létezik egyáltalán kormánypárti, de épeszű, gondolkodó emberként elviselhető médium?
A heti megjelenésűeket preferálnám, mert napi szinten nincs annyi időm család mellett.
Köszike!
I am looking for any help putting together my euro nymph leader. I'm okay at fly casting and brand new to euro nymphing. I picked up an Echo Carbon XL 3 wt/10', a Lamson Liquid 5+ and have an Orvis Hydro Technical Nymph DT-1 line & Orvis Ox technical sighter.
George Daniel recommends:
Cutting down a 9' 4x leader to 0x (~5 ft)
adding on 3-tone 0x sighter materials with blood knots with tag ends left a bit long btwn colors (~2 ft)
a tippet ring followed by 5x or 6x fluoro tippet to the point fly (4-7 ft, 2x depth of water) with a 6-8" dropper tied on 12" up from the point
The easiest of the 2 set ups recommended on the Modern Nymphing video is:
20lb Maxima Chameleon butt end (10-12 ft)
12 lb Suffix Elite colored transition mono (3 ft)
0.012" Cortland Mono sighter material (1.5 ft)
a tippet ring followed by 4x-7x (4-6 ft) with a 6-8" dropper tied on 20-24" up from the point
I can see pros and cons to both...but to be honest I have no idea. The Daniel's rig requires less special material but is a lot shorter. I'm going to be fishing in the same area (mid-Atlantic, Gunpowder specifically) as Daniel...so don't know if there is wisdom in going that route based on similar condition? On the other hand, the Modern Nymphying rig seems really long but does keep the fly line on the reel and is suggested as a solid route for those new to the technique.
Any suggestion on which might lead to less frustration and a higher likelihood of fish (all of our goals, no?)? Many thanks and open to any recommendations. Many thanks!
I’ve heard good things about both professors I just wanna get some insight on what your guy’s experience was taking these professors
I wanted to see what you all think of micro swivels. I recently made the switch from tippet ring to swivels for all my set ups and don't think I will be turning back. You get 100 for half the price of tippet rings.
They also don't seem to really effect presentation in my dry fly fishing. I've been lobbing size 22 bwo and the float fine. I do grease the line a bit but thats something I have always done pre swivel.
I've been pretty excited to get my hands on it, but it looks like it's very exclusive, only having been shown in festivals, both in-person and online. I'm aware a Blu-Ray of the first two parts exists, but it's also sold out. Is Phil going the Bubba Ho-Tep route and keeping it exclusive for the first several years of its life before making it physical? Does he even plan to do a physical release?
Is he a good coach? A bad coach? It doesn't matter that much? Others?
Understanding that the 6lb test also must account for fish fighting. Just curious what I could go after given I'm pretty new to this. Thank you.
I’m reading a lot about Tenkara recently and am a little confused about how line selection works. I understand you can simply just get a furled or level line with a tippet ring on the end and then tie on your tippet, but is it possible to tie a floating line on?
Im noticing the tippet lengths aren’t very long so I guess what I’m imagining is a setup like this: 9ft rod, 6ft floating line, 4-5ft tippet. Would something like this function correctly for small shallow mountain streams with heavy brush? The short floating line and long tippet would be for stealth purposes.
New to fly fishing. 9 foot 5 wt rod, fishing trout. From the end of my fly line, how much of the “leader” should be straight leader, and how much should be tippet? Can I just keep putting tippet on til my leader is nearly gone? If not, how often should I replace my leader?
Once you tie a slip knot with your tippet and secure it around the overhand knot on your level line, do you typically trim any loose tag ends of just keep them on?
Also curious, is using a tippet ring common when using level line?
I’m headed to fish the Blue River below Dillon in Colorado, rumor has it I need 6x because it’s so clear. Can I get away with 5x or 4x Fleurocarbon?
