Six months ago to the day, right here at this bus-stop, my boyfriend was stabbed, and killed.

There are no vehicles here at this time of night. Even here in the heart of the city. No people, either. The rain is my company, as are the blinking, glowing lights- ever neon- that send out their colors across the road and the glass and the puddles in ethereal washes and waves.

I lift my gaze and look across the street. The rain-soaked road shimmers in shades of yellow, teal, and pink. With flashes of green and orange. Occasional drifting red or blue.

He was mugged. Gave up his phone and wallet, then tried to prevent the guy from doing the same to somebody else. Some young woman. The details aren’t even important, really. I’ve been through them all hundreds and hundreds of times in my head and each time the outcome is the same:

It’s going to happen again right now. I check my watch. In three more seconds. I’m sat at the bus stop and I turn my head to look to the right.

Tristan shimmers into view and my heart pangs dreadfully, as it always does. I don’t know why I keep doing this to myself.

There he is; a watery, shining and silvery being. Translucent. He can’t hear me. He can’t see me. It always starts the same. He’s listening to music. He looks so peaceful here. I wonder what he might be thinking about.

I watch as he is provoked. As he steps to the side and puts out an arm. As he attempts to defend the young woman he is with.

I watch as he holds out his forearms, using them as makeshift shields. As they are slashed by the assailant’s knife.

Just got back from our first trip with our dream key and this is our report card.

Cost: D. Not that we can’t afford it but it was sad to see families that couldnt afford to spend $20/genie+ pp and then another $20 pp for premium rides. There were two of us with dream keys and we literally spent $106 30 seconds into the park.

Genie +: A- Pretty darn good. Always had availability of rides. Times were quick to come and often could book again right after a ride was completed(wasn’t like that every time). Buying premium rides was easy at any point during the day(though frustrating $$$$). Also immediately issues ride passes good anywhere for any ride. During Christmas week I have to say we didn’t wait longer the 20 min in any direct line.

Rides: D Ok this is not about how amazing rise is the first time you get on it. It’s like no other experience in my opinion. Completely unique and cast member role play was amazing. The following rides broke down multiple times every day we were there(like a lot) and caused some wasted time. Thunder mtn. Space mtn. Rise. But by far the worst were Alice and Indiana Jones. I mean the maint is very very questionable if you ask me right now.

Ride honorable mention: Snow White—nice refurb. Really cool!

Staff: C(but I blame management) The security guards at the entrance were by far the friendliest of all cast members. Many park cast members looked tired and exhausted. Also there were definitely less of them. Several even told us “they were hungover” “sick of how they are making them work with less support” etc etc but they will literally employee 300 people to shine flashlights. They were not a happy crew.

Merchandise: D- Abysmal compared to what it used to be. Disneyana is a shell fo its former self. World of Disney feels like a target with terrible unoriginal cheaply made items for sale, off the page employees seem to be embarrassed selling the stuff the had 3 years ago and the artwork is literally 25% the size of what it used to be…everywhere. They said because of covid..yeah artist can paint when there’s a pandemic…uh ..ok. Overall we usually spend $2000 a trip on “stuff”. This time: $50 on a trader sam Christmas tiki mug and a cool forky brush!

A little over one hundred years ago, an icy forest exploded. Early on the morning of June 30 in the year 1908, a violent blast flattened more than 80 million trees in a stretch of woods roughly two-thirds the size of the State of Rhode Island. Well, officially, there were three deaths. The reality is an entire village was wiped out; men, women, and children experienced unimaginable horrors before dying in the snow. Records of the devastation were lost between wars and regime changes and revolutions.

You may have heard of the Tunguska Event but I promise you haven’t heard all of it.

My name is Lucas Vant. I run a blog called Horror in History and this is the story of what actually happened that summer morning near the Tunguska River. I know the truth because I was able to track down the journal of one of two survivors. The following account is from Sir Henry Franklin, a British adventurist who was on a solo trek through Siberia at the time of the Tunguska Event. Siberia has a fearsome reputation as a chilled killer. In June, though, with the sunshine cutting through the spruce trees and birdsong in the air, it’s stunning. The horizon seems to stretch farther here than anywhere else in the world. The water is sweeter, narrow creeks bringing cold runoff from the steppes to the taiga. I wake up each morning and breathe deeply of the fine summer air. There’s still a coolness in the wind at night but I have no complaints about the weeks I’ve spent hiking through the colossal forests in this strange land.

This morning, however, there was an ill-quality to the sunrise. The dawn light broke weak with a greenish tint. At first, I considered some bleed over from the aurora borealis but as the day grew older the phenomenon worsened. I was planning on hiking through a rocky pass east of the Tunguska river. When thick clouds came rolling down off the steppes, though, I reconsidered. After a quick breakfast of rabbit and coffee, I limited myself to a nature walk near the campsite in case of rain.

My brother has played WarThunder for a few years and he has thousands of hours spent in the game. I need some gift ideas, and even though I could just purchase him something like premium, I think I would still go for something that is WarThunder related but not an in-game type of thing.

I could go for a WarThunder mug, maybe shirt, but it would take a long time for the package to arrive. Maybe more than a month, so I guess that's out of the equation.

And as far as I know, he's mainly playing with germany.

I was thinking if I should buy him some tank layouts (small 3d printed models) which he could paint and edit to his liking. And because he's playing with germany, I think these 3 would do: Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf.F2, Tiger I early production version and a Maus.

Though, due to the limitation of available gift options, I also think Golden Eagles / Premium would be a pretty good gift imo.

I think the best kind of sleep is the kind of sleep where you do not have to try to sleep. Kind of like passing out, but still under your control. You are choosing to go to sleep. Especially when there is the sound of rain outside helping you go to sleep by providing a bit of ambience. But the worst kind of sleep is similar, and yet tremendously different. It is when everything is perfect. Warm covers. Cozy pajamas. Nothing to do tomorrow so the possibility of sleeping in is still at your grasp. But you can not go to sleep. No matter how hard you try, no amount of tossing or turning is going to help you go to sleep. And no amount of rain is going to help either.

And there was plenty of that tonight.

Lightning and thunder in the distance. First the flash of lightning at my window, then the loud crackle of thunder. And hearing the pitter patter of rain on the roof and metal outside. It really was calming. I thought it was quite peaceful hearing this outside. But I could not sleep.

I looked at my clock, the flashing white numbers of the clock read “3:07”. I was nowhere near tired, might as well get some work done. I had a lot of homework to do and I needed to make sure it was turned in on time. Before that however, I figure now would be a good time to have some tea. Nothing like some good herbal tea to help get ready for some homework. In my experience, it really helps the mind focus and gives it some sort of direction.

After boiling some water and selecting a tea bag from the cabinet, I started to drink the tea. Sweet, but not overbearing. Just the way I like it. Another flash of lightning then the lag time of the thunder. I went to go over to the window to watch the rain. So, calming, to watch all the tiny droplets of water pitter patter on the fence posts, metal, and pavement. Each making their own individual mark but collecting still to make everything all wet. What I saw at the National Conservatism Conference.

Rachel Bovard is one of the thousands of smart young Americans who flock to Washington each year to make a difference. She’s worked in the House and Senate for Republicans Rand Paul, Pat Toomey, and Mike Lee, was listed among the “Most Influential Women in Washington Under 35” by National Journal, did a stint at the Heritage Foundation, and is now policy director of the Conservative Partnership Institute, whose mission is to train, equip, and unify the conservative movement. She’s bright, cheerful, and funny, and has a side hustle as a sommelier. And, like most young people, she has absorbed the dominant ideas of her peer group.

One of the ideas she’s absorbed is that the conservatives who came before her were insufferably naive. They thought liberals and conservatives both want what’s best for America, disagreeing only on how to get there. But that’s not true, she believes. “Woke elites — increasingly the mainstream left of this country — do not want what we want,” she told the National Conservatism Conference, which was held earlier this month in a bland hotel alongside theme parks in Orlando. “What they want is to destroy us,” she said. “Not only will they use every power at their disposal to achieve their goal,” but they’ve already been doing it for years “by dominating every cultural, intellectual, and political institution.”

As she says this, the dozens of young people in her breakout session begin to vibrate in their seats. Ripples of head nodding are visible from where I sit in the back. The day of the Nerosal Festival came with thunder and bright lights. The first salvo of fireworks filled the sky at the crack of dawn, filling the still dark sky with light of all colors. These were not the fireworks that Dallion had occasionally seen be released during the week leading up to this day, they were on a whole new level. Back on Earth, even the best firework displays created a little more than pattern combinations in the sky. Here, it was like watching someone paint pictures in the sky with light and glitter. It started with small symbols—crowns, swords, chalices—then quickly moved to horses, dragons, griffons, finally culminating in a crudely animated scene. Had Dallion seen this on a PC screen, he would have laughed. Seeing it stretch across the entire sky, however, filled him with awe.

Few things could compare the first time you see it, Nil said, amused by the fact that Dallion had spent a quarter hour staring at the sky from the window of his room. Originally, it started as a quick glance out of curiosity; as a result, Dallion wasn’t able to look away ever since. The money spent on this is enough to upgrade a neighborhood two times over. And yet, looking at it seems like a small price to pay.

Finally, after half an hour, Dallion managed to pull away from the sight and start getting dressed. This was an important day for him—the day he’d see the countess for the very first time and, more importantly, the day that she would see him. While it was unrealistic to have any expectations, there was a chance that someone would whisper a word or two about him in the countess’ ear. After all, Dallion was a first-time wildcard, and if nothing else, that would be an amusing topic of conversation for a minute or two during the tournament.
