How useful was the submachine gun during WWII, and what is/was considered to be the best submachine used during the conflict?
- Although I’ve heard a lot about the impact and usefulness of rifles and machine guns during WWII, I haven’t heard much in regards to submachine guns.
- By best, I mean in terms of how it was generally perceived by those who used them and those that they were used against.

TIL early versions of the Thompson submachine gun used a "Blish Lock" to hold the action closed. It was based on a theory that two dissimilar metals would resist movement under extreme pressures. I just realized the reason why you hold the STG 44 by the magazine in Call of duty: World at war, is most likely due to the player character not being familiar with German weapons and assuming to hold it by the magazine like a Submachine gun.

- As shown here, there are a ton of different handgun calibers that have been made over the years, but the 9mm has proven to be the most commonly used one for pistols and submachine guns for not only military use, but for police use as well. Why?

I've tried different guns, I really have i can't seem to hit my shots in the hand cannons I just got the ace of spades and I'm about as deadly as a sponge, I'm struggling to hit anything except with the pew pew pew guns. So like the title says I just want some information on the best autos and subs, as I know I can Google it but getting it from players who actually play the game is much better.
