A list of puns related to "Social Policy"
Basically the title. Climate change is a major issue that we must solve.
Climate spending proposals, such as BBB, often have social policy attached.
For example, you get a tax credit for a union made EV.
If climate change is so important, then why attach the union part? It just hinders the policy becoming law.
I keep seeing these TikToks of people posting โa day in the life of an IBD analystโ or similar, sometimes posting their teams on social media etc.
I saw a TikTok of a banker meeting a client once that she posted to her page, made me think are you allowed to do that?
Which made me wonder, what are different firms social media policies?
In the latest Trad vs Lib thread I saw a frustrating number of โI like to go for free settler than Traditionโ or โI go Aristocracy then Libertyโ comments. This is horrible play! The Tradition happiness and growth is too powerful to delay, and the Liberty Great Person, reduced culture costs, and happiness should not be delayed either. Also, the early Trad/Lib policies are only good very early, later in the game they are pretty inconsequential.

Your 01/09/22 update on all things social work
Libraries Hire Social Workers
Libraries are used for more than skipping classes - they are hubs of local resources. Besides offering access to books and other media, they enable people to have a sense of shelter and stability. More recently, some libraries have also begun to hire social workers.
We all know that libraries can attract people that are dealing with housing insecurity or other complex issues. In fact, research by Beth Whaler, the Director of the School of Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, has found that:
This is where social workers come in. They will help clients navigate the labyrinth of services in their community, and help them find the resources that they need.
On the other hand, libraries do have difficulties with funding and are finding it hard to bring on extra personnel such as a social worker. Others question whether this should even be a role that the library takes on.
Settlement Over Removal of Indigenous Children
>The Canadian government announced it had reached an agreement to provide $40 billion CAD ($31.5 billion USD) in compensation to First Nations children who were removed from their families and placed into the welfare system.
Starting in the 1800s, the Canadian government removed Indigenous children from their homes in order to conform them to the dominant Canadian culture. A settlement for $31.5 billion US Dollars was reached in compensation for part of this injustice.
The first $20 billion is being provided in compensation for the children who were removed from their homes between April 1, 1991, and March 31, 2022, and for their parents and caregivers. The second $20 billion in funding will be used to improve the First Nations Child and Family Services and to support First Nations adults who have aged out of the child welfare system.

To this day, my family believes that Yugoslavia was probably the greatest country that existed, and still believe it even though they moved to Canada and obtained an upper middle class life.
Therefore, it could be good for some capitalists that want to question them and maybe "catch" them in some way, or question what type of freedom they had, etc. For socialists, it can help you understand how market socialism works, what Yugoslavs thought about the USSR and Eastern Block, etc.
I'd like to record this interview for like an hour or so and upload it to YouTube probably. If it works out I'll make a series on it. My GF's family is from the former soviet block as well and could be another series that we do if there is interest.
I leave you with an old clip by the AP that shows what Yugoslavia was like in case some of you were unaware: https://youtube.com/watch?v=GAZVl1d5Q2o&ab_channel=APArchive
Canada and New Zealand comes to mind, but Im sure there are some untold stories of other social democratic success stories?
Or what individuals parties made good change to countries?
Even compared to, say, Bormannite Germany being a textbook case of Orthodox Nazism being unsustainable in the long run, a "Status Quo" or "Reform Bureaucrat" Japan is ultimately set up to fail in the long run. Part of the reason why can be found in one word: demographics. Let me me explain.
It's not often brought up or discussed, but it's revealed that by the early '60s, the Yokusankai had implemented birth control policies comparable to the OTL People's Republic of China in an effort to stem the post-WW2 population boom, including a Japanese equivalent of the One Child Policy. Anyone familiar with those, would know in hindsight how much they're a REALLY GOOD IDEA due to how these have, in China's situation IRL, resulted in skewered social and gender dynamics, crippled birth rates, and a long-term demographic decline that the country's economy and welfare system are woefully inadequate to compensate. It makes real-life Japan's own demographic issues look outright benign by comparison.
In TNO, Japan is ironically shown going down the same path, with even Shidzue Kato (who OTL was not only one of the pioneers of modern Japanese feminism but also for Japan's birth control policies) being horrified by the measures taken, which are only the beginning of a long trauma conga line that would cripple the Japanese for generations to come.
This isn't to say that it's inevitable. Takagi, notably, can implement birth control reforms that effectively put an end to the Yokusankai's measures early enough before the damage could really be felt. A more "reformist" Reform Bureaucrat, perhaps with Kishi's backing, could also drop the One Child Policy antics potentially with, albeit at the expense of reducing women to little more than breeders. While the Junshin would similarly drop them if only due to their association with the previous regime's perceived incompetence, even if it could mean setting social norms back to the Victorian era.
Even if Japan "wins" the Cold War, if demographics is left unaddressed, it'll turn into a ticking time bomb that would make that victory be all for nothing.
Militarization of police ? War on drugs ? Racism ? Healthcare and welfare systems ? Immigration policy ? Domestic terrorism ? Taxation ? Political polarization ? etcโฆ

Your 01/02/22 update on all things social work
Good morning.
And Happy New Year ๐ฅณ Today, we start with a quiz:
Born in 1802, I am a social work OG whose advocacy efforts resulted in the Bill for the Benefit of the Indigent Insane, which set aside 10 million acres to be used for housing and benefiting the mentally ill and helped create the first generation of mental asylums. Who am I?
Most affected by COVID-19
As we continue to quarantine, even the buttons on our shirts begin to socially distance (read: stress-eating). The relentless COVID-19 pandemic has been tough on all of us ๐ท
Yet a new report by the Government Accountability Office found that 6 populations may be at higher risk for behavioral health difficulties due to COVID-19:
Why are these populations more affected by the epidemic? Well, for various reasons.
For example, children and adolescents have lacked consistent access to behavioral health supports such as school counselors due to classes being held remotely. For those with pre-existing behavioral health conditions, it may have been due to reduced access to residential and other treatment programs.
The report also highlighted the $8 billion that has been rewarded in Covid-relief funding for behavioral health.

COVID-19 and Domestic Violence
There has been a โsurgeโ of domestic violence across the world due to COVID-19.
An article in the Washington Post highlights the story of Umm Zeid, a mother of three living in Jordan, a small country in Western Asia. Due to the pandemic, her abusive husband has been unable to find work, which has led to his staying at home more often. This, in turn, has led to more consistent abuse a

Throwaway account for obvious reasons: Iโm a public servant, and Iโm also a Budtender (cannabis retail) on the side. I contacted the V&E committee at my department before accepting the Budtender role, and I was told that retail didnโt need to be disclosed, sweet.
My question is more so about social media content; as a Budtender, Iโm encouraged to publish reviews of some products. To do so, Iโm using a throwaway social media account (some pictures show my face, my name is nowhere and neither is my department/the fact that I work there. Itโs a fairly anonymous platform.)
Could I get fired for a picture of me smoking a joint on my own time? I canโt seem to find any guidance on TBS/my own departmentโs site. Or maybe itโs a union thing?
And before I get any judgement for the cannabis perspective, please answer this question as if it was a LCBO employee reviewing a glass of wine. :)

Non-Profits Struggle to Survive
Unless youโre living under a rock, youโve probably heard about the labor shortage.
While some assumed that โlazy millennialsโ and government aid were to blame, recent data shows that the shortage is mainly due to the Boomers, who have retired earlier due to the strong stock market, soaring house market, and the higher risks of catching COVID-19 that are associated with the return to in-person work.
You couldnโt find a better time to retire, grandpa? ๐ด
Unfortunately, it is not just for-profit businesses that are being affected: Non-profits are also being hit hard and are struggling to stay afloat. Because non-profits rely on philanthropy and grants, they do not have the flexibility to generate revenue and increase wages that for-profits normally have. This leads to even greater difficulties in finding and retaining talent.
And the data supports this. In November, non-profit employment was 4.8 percent below its pre-pandemic levels, compared to 1.5 percent employment in for profits. Non-profits play a key role in our society. But if they are going to continue to be competitive, they must find better ways to attract employees and reduce burnout.
College Mental Health
Prom, college tours, graduation, nose hair - these are the timeless traditions associated with growing up and transitioning from high school to college. Yet due to COVID-19, many students have not had the chance to engage in these festivities.
Unfortunately, the pandemic has also exacerbated loneliness among students. And as schools continue with remote learning, loneliness and isolation will only continue. Some are saying that this loneliness has also

Social Workers in Police Departments
๐ฎโโ๏ธPolice departments across the country continue to bring on social workers, and mental health clinicians in general, in an effort to more effectively respond to public mental health crises. Results by programs such as B-HEARD in New York City have shown positive, albeit mixed results.
B-HEARD was launched on June 6, 2021, and allowed both mental and physical health professionals to respond to 911 mental health emergency calls. A report about the program highlights some important data:
Integrating mental health expertise into policing is a trend that will likely continue. Nevertheless, despite promising initial results, the data shows that these programs must continue to transform and improve.
Drug-Related Deaths
>There were an estimated 100,306 drug overdose deaths in the United States during the 12-month period which ended on April 2021, an increase of 28.5% from the 78,056 deaths during the 12-month period prior to this one.
๐The Florida Annual Drug Report also indicated a 17-percent increase in total drug-related deaths throughout the state.
Why are drug overdose deaths increasing? One reason may be due to the worsenin

- Applies uniformly to all personal accounts of an employee,
- Requires employees to identify that they work for the company in their accounts and posts
- Disallows anonymous accounts
- Disallows posting almost anything about the company, its products or services, its competitors, any self-promotion, or promotion of any website or business of any kind.
So basically, I can only talk about the home baked cookies. Anything else (including this post) is a violation of the policy.
I wonder what is the social media policy at companies like Google, FB, Twitter etc.
They did not mention this sub but they did say stuff about not talking bad about business partners, that's all well and good, except for the fact my job provides goods to a very reasonably dispised rich man child. Could I get fired for expressing my opinions? Or even posting this?

๐ค The song that led to decreased suicides - Your 12/19/21 update on all things social work
Good morning.
Letโs get that sluggish Sunday brain ๐ง warmed up with a little quiz:
Who am I? I co-founded Hull House in 1889, which provided social, educational, and artistic programs for indigent communities in Chicago, Illinois. I also won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1931, and am considered to be one of the pioneers of the social work professions (read: an overall badass ๐).
The answer is at the bottom of the newsletter. No cheating.
Justice for social worker who was left naked during a police raid
On February 21, 2019, Anjanette Young, a 51-year-old medical social worker, was handcuffed and forced to stand naked for several minutes in front of a dozen police officers after they had burst into her apartment to execute a search warrant.
The police had been searching for a man with a gun, but later learned that the person they were looking for had not lived at the location for four years.
On December 15, the Chicago City Council unanimously approved a $2.9 million dollar settlement. Ms. Young stated that she began taking medication to treat her depression and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder following the raid. She has also lost her job.
Ms. Young is also pushing for strict disciplinary measures against the officers and reforms including a ban on no-knock warrants and measures preventing officers from pointing guns at children.
Song helped decrease suicide
American hip hop artist Logicโs song "1-800-273-8255" helped decrease suicides in 10- to 19- year olds by 5.5% during three time periods: the first 34 days after the song's release, Logic's performance at the 2017 MTV awards, and during his performance at the 2018 Grammy Awards.
Furthermore, the song led to a 50% greater outreach to the suicide hotline following the artistโs performance at the MTV Video Music Awards. The songโs title is directly referring to the number of the suicide hotline. You can watch the music video here.
