How can you tell how deep of water is safe to cross (mechanically speaking)
edit just so everyone knows. I am interested only in light overlanding, not serious rock crawls or sketchy crossings or deliberately jumping in a giant mud hole just for the fun of getting out. Iβm not a motorist or an off-roader, Iβm an outdoorsman. Iβm interested in overlanding for the sake of getting to really out of the way camping and hiking areas, not for the Motorsport aspect of it. With that in mind, I have no interest in putting a snorkel on my car or crossing a creek up to my headlights. I was just curious as to how those who DO submerge a significant portion of their carβs moving parts arenβt just wrecking their systems, but then also, I assume I will occasionally have to splash through at least some shallow creeks, and was trying to get a sense of what parts going under water starts to pose mechanical risk. It sounds like the common advice is to not submerge the belly of the vehicle.
I know some vehicles have a snorkel, cause I guess the real danger is sucking water into your engine. But isnβt dousing your hot engine, and all of its belts and wheels and whatnot, in sudden cold water, really bad for it? Doesnβt that take a toll on all those moving parts if youβre washing some of their coating away? As well as risk like thermal damage or cracking?
But also, for a vehicle without a snorkel, how do I determine the depth of water itβs ok to cross?

Cold air or snorkel?
I put a cold air intake on my 3.6L TrailHawk, and the power gain was noticeable. but grass being greener on the other side, I kind of want a snorkel, and that means I will have to get rid of it. So my question is dose anyone have a snorkel and dose it reduce the intake flow from stock or is it better?

Vic High Country solo
Hi folks. Next week, Iβm taking a few weeks to rest after the Xmas craziness and keen to head into the bush.
I have a good camping setup, a solid rig (2013 dmax with 2β lift) and would consider myself an experienced-novice off-roader.
I really want to explore the Vic High Country, and do the trip from Mansfield to Dargo.
I know there are some serious river crossings out there and I donβt have a snorkel or modified/raised breathers. Isuzu says wading depth is 800mm.
Can I do the trek solo and without a snorkel?

- This is a beautiful Momento Zero Grande made from Brooks Warm Tones material. This one has gold trim. This is from the first release. It features a piston filling mechanism and a 14K gold extra-fine nib. I filled it once, wrote a few sentences with it, cleaned it out, and it has been sitting in my display case since. So it is in like-new condition. It is an absolutely beautiful pen but I have a few other Leonardo MZG that I prefer more.

Best Vehicles (or modifications) to withstand high winds and high waters
In reading all of the articles about families evacuating NOLA/Baton Rouge and the areas in between, I started wondering what would be the best vehicles or mods to vehicles that would increase safety during travel to safe areas, or if the car is sitting in a lot during a storm.
My knowledge of cars is very slim, but so far I could only think of a lift kit, pretty large tires, and a snorkel to raise the air intake on the engine, is there anything else Iβm missing?

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

SOLD! Leonardo MZ - Endless Pens LE, Red Marble, No Nib [D/B] $125
- This is a limited edition Momento Zero that was released by Endless Pens years ago. I believe it was their first exclusive. It is a beautiful red marbled body with gold trim. Only 100 pens were made. I originally bought this with a 14K 1.3mm stub nib but had a lot of issues with it and Endless Pens' customer service sucked. So long story short, the pen no longer has a nib unit, hence the D rating. It would need a new nib unit, which would be a Bock #6. Otherwise, the pen is in great condition. Comes with the original box, papers, and converter. A chance to grab a rare edition, if you're willing to source a new nib unit for it.
