WITT? Two rows of metal semicircles in a line, that open and close with a hinge, wooden handle. Found in the kitchen section of a thrift store, but I have no idea what you would even cook with it. reddit.com/gallery/s3jb6b

Art from Mathematics: Using semicircles and the Collatz Conjecture to generate patterns

In a post I made a little over a month ago, I talked about different types of content that this sub could benefit from, one of which being art with the Collatz conjecture being used as its basis.

Here is a small art project, all generated programmatically and presented in Desmos. The rules are as follows:

1. Start with some integer and begin performing the collatz conjecture on it.

2. Draw a semicircle from the starting integer to the next. If the sequence is increasing, render it as red and above the x axis. If it is decreasing, render as blue and below the x axis.

3. Continue the sequence until you've reached the 4-2-1-4 loop.

Here is a small example using 5 as the starting point.

Quickly, these patterns get increasingly complex, here is 31 as a starting point.

Here is a more detailed view of the semicircles near the origin.

Here are the first 100 numbers and their semicircles. We get nice regular patterns this way. I'm curious to know what the lines tangent to both sets of semicircles are, if that piques your curiosity please let me know what they are as I'm curious too but far to busy to dedicate any more time to this tiny project.

If anyone is interested in playing with this, throw this into a .html file, change the number at the designated spot, and open in your browser to see what your own sequence looks like. This was thrown together fairly quickly and it was my first time working with the Desmos API, so the code may not be optimal.

Enjoy!

Snowline tool with various semicircles?

Someone on Twitter posted this the other day and was asking what it is, I can't work it out so thought I'd put to you all....

Seems to have 6 semi circle indents of varying size. The cental stippled piece can be turned slightly to release the tension and move the semi circles around.

YSK β€œfree range chicken” all too often means a ~5ft semicircle for chicken to roam outside of their huge overcrowded coop once in a while. Also, grass-fed cattle are often fed grass only a week or two before slaughter, so grass is in their stomach when they die. This is apparently standard practice. reddit.com/gallery/q3n2vq

[PC] [maybe 80s or 90s?] Very simple game, with a "stick" an the bottom, that move around a semicircle and shoots at enemies in the direction it's aimed.

Please help me find it... If i remember well, was a very simple old game, with very low detail, no background, there was only something like a "stick" on the central bottom of the screen, that can move around a semicircle, and shoots in the direction it's aimed, but never downwards. I remembered it yesterday and have searched for it all over the Internet and can't even find a similar game. So... i was born in 2001 and played that game around 2004/2005 in my uncle's Windows 95 when i was 3 or 4 years old. I really hope it's not an false memory. Also, i don't really know if it's called a "stick" or "rod", in english. But it's something like that.
