A list of puns related to "Selfsame"
How rare are these orcs? They appeared after I lost a fortress defense
Recall Hegelβs mysterious phrase from The Phenomenology of Spirit (1807): βthe self-repulsion of the selfsame and the self-attraction of the unlikeβ (Β§164). Since Hegel has been talking about the law of gravity for some paragraphs before this phrase, it sounds like a metaphoric reference to electromagnetic forces: In static electricity, positively charged particles repel positively charged particles and they attract negatively charged particles, and vice versa. Or in magnetism, north pole repels north pole and it attracts south pole, and vice versa.
They both have the unbreakable trait, which I didnβt realize a normal orc could have.
Edit: Okay, turn out there are SIX of them
I was chatting so someone about the hosts when they pointed out something, something that is both interesting, and maybe mildly problematic.
The hosts usually have quite varied backstories and professions/hobbies. Weβve got werewolves, gamblers, idols, fanboys, a whole spectrum. But thereβs a core group of personality features that, despite all the other differences, we see very little variation in.
Itβs less prevalent in hosts 1-5, but in the latter half of season one, our protags generally pretty much all share quite a narrow band of traits; they are all polite, civil, and nice. Outside of a few aberrations, Aoooo, Jimmy, Cly, D and Arty were never jerks to anybody, and while they did get sad, they pretty much never really got mad at anything. Jokes are made about Jimmy eating Tepig, but it never really has any impact on his character (he remains a lovable fanboy, rather than a Pokemon-murdering butcher who sank a knife into Tepigβs flesh because he lacks fundamental understanding of the value of life)
We donβt seem to like having βjerkβ hosts. That doesnβt mean being sobby or sad, we get a lot of that. Itβs that protagonists are not allowed to be crude, impatient, rude or risquΓ©, or anything too negative or undesirable. Red, AJ, A and Napoleon come the closest, they do have negative traits, but nothing too bad. And it feels like thatβs led to a bit of a dearth of variation, because for the most part, our hosts are all gentle souls.
Itβs not a drastic problem or anything, it might not be one at all. But I do feel like the protags who were allowed to have negatives; cold, antisocial Napoleon, snappy, emotional A, and maybe revenge-driven AJ, are fundamentally more interesting than the happy-pleasant guys like Arty and D.
But itβs interesting, in any case.
TL:DR: Many of our protagonists tend to share some very similar character traits. Thereβs a bit of a lack of meaningful variation as a result
