A list of puns related to "Seasonal Adjustment"
Hi all. I am kind of new to Stata and Reddit and was wondering if anyone can help me out. I would be very grateful. For one of my classes I was given a take home exam and the question that has been giving me trouble goes like this:
"For this question I want you to remove any seasonal effects in the data and generate a graph for each variable that includes the original value and the seasonally adjusted data on the same graph."
I was given the not seasonally adjusted North Dakota employment data under the variable name "ndempnsa". It clearly shows seasonality when I graph it. How can I remove the seasonal effects in the data using a dummy variable? I have watched my professor's recorded lecture over and over but cannot seem to grasp it, or I am just missing an extra video? I have followed all the steps from the lectures but it does not look right. I will put the code from the Do-File under but I do not know how to come up with the final results.
To be clear I am not looking to cheat, as the professor has allowed the use of outside sources, but I would like to know what am I doing wrong and what my next steps would be.
Thank you so much. I will keep you updated.

If you're familiar with using Eviews to apply X-13 seasonal adjustment, could you please PM me? I need help creating syntax that designates certain observations as outliers
I've been criticized on this sub for supposedly not knowing how seasonally adjusted data works. I was more or less told "The government doesn't manipulate economic data to make itself look good.", essentially called a crank with the implication that I should have more faith in the adjusted numbers that are reported.
But if you look at this summary of data from MarketWatch for this week's release of government economic data https://www.marketwatch.com/economy-politics/calendar, skip down to Thursday the 21st of May and compare "initial jobless claims, regular state program SA [seasonally adjusted]" for this week at 2.44 million and "initial jobless claims, total NSA [not seasonally adjused]" for the same week at 3.3 million it is clear to most observer that the government must massively manipulate this data.
How can there be a difference of almost 0.9 million unemployment claims between the two figures. Either that almost one million workers are unemployed or not. The government can't have it both ways. And this highlights that we should be way more cautious about just accepting the economic data the government hands us, If they say the unemployment rate is 20% it's probably really substantially more. If they say consumer spending and prices are falling a certain percent it's probably more. If they say GDP shrank so and so amount, it's probably more.
So I played some ranked matches and got plat 3. After a few weeks, i got a rank adjustment because I won against some cheaters (i guess?!) and now im gold 1. What reward will i get after the season? Plat or gold one? Ingame it says plat. Can I trust it?
Hey all,
Planning to use seasonal adjustment feature to prep for Memorial day so my smart shopping / smart bidding campaigns do not go overboard with the cost and the ramp down doesn't affect us too much.
I'm tired of feeling like crap from lack of sunlight etc. I'm desperate enough to consider buying something to help alleviate the symptoms. I've looked at the SAD lamps/bulbs but it's all a bit vague so would appreciate any first hand advice. Money is tight as always of course. Do these things really work or is it nonsense? Would like something I can sit beside me while I surf reddit on my pc. Thanks!
Hi, if I reach Plat 3 by one game, but get those points removed because I won against hackers or I had hackers in my team and won, will I still get the charm or not? Of course in the case those hackers were not in my lobby...
Hey all. PhD in political economy here. MA was in Intl Relations, BA in Politics. Very little background in applied quant but have always been eager. Iβm UK based and been to a number of ECPR/ICPSR workshops on Panel Data/MLM etc. So fairly competent.
Now that the background is out of the way. Iβm working with U.K. bank lending data and employment. Itβs taken months to collect the data to get to this point and now Iβm planning to start some univariate analysis before my MLM.
I have 14 industries across 74 months long wise. I need to SA the data to avoid conflating seasonal effects on employment and salaries with the effects Iβm looking for. To this end I ran a series of regressions for each month and industry. Stored the resid and used these residuals as my new Seasonally Adjusted values.
The problem is. This has resulted in a significant number of negative values which is counter intuitive and will cause issues for my descriptives.
So my question is: Can you offer any readings that will provide a better understanding of seasonal adjustments and recommend a method to apply it.
I am thinking about running the ARIMA package in stata/R. But not quite sure how this works and how complex the syntax is likely to be.
Any and all advice appreciated!
It just came to my mind that it's called "seasonal" rather than "winter"
I have been in a depressive episode since November. I think about the last month or two it's been the worst. I have hardly had the motivation to get out of bed.
Yesterday I felt like the "fog" I was in lifted. Started thinking about all the things I was going to do the next day. I wrote out a packed full schedule of what my day would consist of.
I didn't get any sleep until finally 5 am rolled around. Then my mother woke me up to take me to breathalyze and I haven't been able to fall back to sleep.
I'm really worried about this insomnia and this might be the onset of hypomanic/ manic episode.
I also should note that I ran out of my melatonin, so maybe that has something to do with it too?
What adjustments do you make to your bugout bag for the seasons? Being the "boy scout" of my family, I pack the car emergency kit for my wife's vehicle as well as my own bug out bag. Since the kids are in her car a majority of the time, I make sure that as the weather begins cooling towards winter that I keep rubber boots and spare coats for all three of them. Then they also have their emergency blankets as well, that stay in the car year-round. Sunscreen, as I have recently learned, is not just a summer need and now stays in my bags year round. More food is needed during the colder months as your body burns more calories keeping the temp. , whereas more water is needed during the summer to stay hydrated. What other seasonal changes should be made to adjust our bug out bags for more efficiency?

OK in truth, I have minimal formal training in this area, but I've done a bit of research and been through this quite a few times. I suppose this is more of how I do seasonal adjustments.
First of all, this is something that every string player should do. The reason that it needs to be done is because as the temperature and climate change with the seasons, the wood will naturally expand and contract. It becomes more apparent with bass guitars because we have bigger instruments and thus more wood. This effects a lot of the aspects of your bass. The two that matter the most are intonation and action. I'm going to focus on what needs to be done. For how to do it, you'll want to reference your manual. This can be slightly different for different basses.
I always start with the action. For this you'll need to adjust two places. The truss rod and the bridge. In simple terms, the truss rod will change the arc of the neck and effect all of the strings. The bridge will effect each string individually. Because of this, I like to start with the truss rod. Once I have something that feels right for most of the strings, then I'll go back and tweak each string individually.
A lot of basses come with recommended Action settings in the manual. If you've never done this before, start there and then adjust to your taste. Some people like like higher action, some people like lower action. There is no right or wrong answer here. Just set it up how you like it. I like just a hint of fret buzz on my jaguar that I use in rock projects. I strive for no buzz on my p bass that I use for jazz and funk.
When working with the truss rod, always work in small adjustments. Adjusting too much too quickly can break you bass, so take it slow. A lot of guys say that you should let it sit overnight. I don't think that's necessary. I usually find that my bass will adjust a little more over night, but not a whole lot. You don't need to wait a day for every quarter turn. Usually a few minutes will get you in the ballpark. Just be prepared to make some minor adjustments on day 2.
The most important thing I look for with the truss rod adjustments is that the bass is easy to play. I don't know how else to describe it. When my bass needs a set up, the strings start to feel tight to me. I'm using more hand strength than I normally would and the strings feel like they have a lot of tension on them. When I'm in the ballpark with the truss rod, my hands aren't w
