Synergy Pilot in Fukushima, Japan

We’ve been negotiating and scoping with our counterparts in Fukushima since the beginning of the year. It’s only now that we’re able to announce that we’ve officially signed an agreement with the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in Japan, through its subsidiary, the Fukushima Renewable Energy Institute (FREA). This university-based research facility is one of the leading Japanese research facilities in renewable energy. With a range of resources at its disposalβ€”from EV charging stations to energy storage systems and their own small-scale solar farmsβ€”FREA has chosen Electrify as the partner to carry out studies into how these assets can form part of an energy trading network, using real-time data and our matching engine in Synergy. We will provide more details on the project as we get underway.

Looking for monuments and plaques in Toronto - commemorating science & technology

Hi there!

I am looking to create a tour of sorts through one of my hobbies, for folks to visit monuments and plaques in Toronto that commemorate science and technology. I've found two great choices so far, but am at a bit of a roadblock to find some more. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Right now, I have the Banting Institute at the University of Toronto, named for Frederick Banting who discovered insulin, greatly changing the healthcare field for the better.

I have also found the Sir Adam Beck statue at University Ave & Queen St. Sir Adam Beck contributed greatly to the power industry, and now we have affordable hydroelectricity generated at the Sir Adam Beck stations in Niagara Falls.

Those are my first two points of interest. Next steps are welcomed! Thank you in advance!

Funding for Study of Barriers to Higher Education in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Among Women and Disadvantaged Groups in Nepal

This research will describe policies and practices that were recently introduced by institutions in Nepal to promote diversity and inclusion in STEM higher education, determine if they address students' perceived barriers, and study their effects on recruitment and retention of women (versus men) and disadvantaged groups

As societies develop, education plays an increasingly important role in determining life's opportunities. However, educational credentials can also reinforce and legitimize traditional hierarchies, resulting in untapped intellect and creativity. This research considers science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) higher education in Nepal, focusing on status hierarchies known to effect schooling: gender and ethnicity/caste (Stash and Hannum 2001). We also consider the effects of poverty – a prevalent and powerful force in South Asia. This research further explores intersectionality or the extent to which systems of discrimination by gender and ethnicity overlap.

We are looking funding for this project and if you know PhD students, or INGOs or Donor or individual who are interested to fund it, then please let us know.

I have a degree in Applied Animal Science Technology, and was still dumb enough to let my goat bite the heck out of me.

Title says it I guess, but I’ll elaborate. I just adopted the sweetest little pygmy goat. He’s only ever been bonded with humans and dogs, and is scared of other goats. So it’s just me and the rest of the pets to keep him company. Mostly he’s happy with my bigger dog and shes taken to being a guardian. I have spaces for him to be tied instead of being in his pen while I work. He can eat the yard fine, it’s not only safe but reasonably nutritious forage (yay for nature-oriented landscaping). Plus he likes being closer to me.

I take little breaks while I’m working to pet him and sometimes he just gently nibbles on my fingers. I’m thinking he likes the salt, and it doesn’t hurt, so I just let him nibble. He’s got a mineral block in his pen but I guess he’s going to take the opportunity where he can.

Sure, it didn’t hurt at first. Until he crunched down with his molars. I have a ring of sliced up skin around my fingers now. Lesson learned I guess. I hope he hasn’t developed a taste for blood though. I’m not sure how I’m going to deal with a vampire goat haha.
