I'm looking into high end converters, and it seems like a lot of what you are paying for in them is their top notch clocking. That said I need everything synced up clock wise and I'm having trouble grasping how this works on multiple levels.
- How can my DAC be in charge of the clocking for the tracking portion of the process when my DAC isn't involved in the act of tracking at all.
- Does the master clock have to have all salves directly connected to it or can it be at the end of a daisy chain of optically linked boxes?
- Why do some converters and interfaces have 2 optical ports with one label βinβ and the other βoutβ, while other converters and interfaces only have 1 optical port simply labeled βopticalβ. Can these ports send and receive at the same time? Can my DAC which is receiving audio simultaneously send clock?
I feel pretty confused tbh.
