Ruhollah Khomeini speaks to supporters after arriving in Tehran (1979)
What is the Marxist position on the Iranian revolution? Was it Marxist in nature? What is the Marxist position on Ruhollah Khomeini?
Does anyone know of any scholarly articles that discuss Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and his role and impact in the Iranian revolution?
Hello redditors, I am currently looking into the Iranian Revolution for a history class and have been tasked to create a podcast evaluating Khomeini's short and long term impacts on the Iranian revolution of 1978-9. If anyone knows of any relevant articles or journals by historians, could you please let me know in the comments.
Thanks so much!

Was the 1979 Iranian Revolution a motivating factor for the Soviet Union's decision to intervene in Afghanistan the same year? Did they fear Ruhollah Khomeini's ideas would diffuse and spread into Afghanistan and to Muslims in Soviet Central Asia?

How much was Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini influenced by Plato?
I've heard multiple people mention that his Islamic Republic in Iran was influenced by Plato's Republic and I was wondering how true that is. Are there any sources people can point me to?

"A man can have sex with animals such as sheep, cows, camels and so on. However, he should kill the animal after he has his orgasm. He should not sell the meat to the people in his own village, but selling the meat to a neighboring village is reasonable." - Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini

Virgin Mohammed Reza Shah vs. Chad Ruhollah Khomeini
Ruhollah Khomeini was, as I see it, one of the greatest men who ever lived.
Ruhollah was a natural leader, and was born in a fascinating land where precisely such men were meant to be born!
He deposed the corrupt Shah regime for the Iranian people, and the people of Iran embraced him as the herbringer of a new type of Islam; Islam that seeks consolation to the battling sects of Shia and Sunna!

Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini issued a fatwa against Salman Rushdie in 1989. What did it mean?
Wiki describes fatwa as a non-binding legal opinion on matters of Islamic law. Local newspaper described it as "every Muslim is obliged to kill him on sight". Obviously, the truth is somewhere in the middle - Salman Rushdie had serious police protection so there must have been some threat to him.

Ruhollah Khomeini never existed. It was Sean Connery playing the role of a lifetime. From 007 actor to acting 007. Ronald Reagan and Sean Connery were friends. Reagan loved 007.Both are thespians.American embassy hostages in Iran were released, after a year, on the day Pres. Reagan took office. 🧐?

Was Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini the subject of a personality cult in Iran during/after his time in power? How did the image of the Supreme Leader fit into the framework of the Islamic Republic?
(Originally posted this to r/askhistorians but it died in new so I figured I'd try again here.)
The cult of personality is a common motif in the aesthetics and ideology of authoritarianism, and many if not most successful dictators use one in some form during (and perhaps after) their reign. The common modern examples are the likes of Stalin, Hitler, Mao and the Kim Dynasty, who for all intents and purposes were as close as a human could come to literal gods in the propaganda of their respective regimes.
Iran might be a somewhat different case though, while Khomeini's portrait is almost inescapable, and his ideology is the basis for the current clerical regime, a fundamentalist theocracy can hardly permit a living human to be worshiped can it? How did Khomeini's cult of personality, if such a thing existed, manifest in Iran? Did he ever claim to have a special divine mandate, or to be the Mahdi or anything like that, or did he regard his rule as a purely earthly affair akin to any other religious leader? How did his image and legacy fit into the ideology behind the government of the Islamic Republic?
Is Hukabee and Palin calling for Assanges assassination different from Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini calling for a fatwa against Salman Rushdie?
Ruhollah Khomeini is an autocratic leader.
Was Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini the subject of a personality cult in Iran like many 20th century dictators were? What was the place of the image of the Supreme Leader within the framework of a theocratic Islamist regime?
