A list of puns related to "Rob Reiner"
Reinerβs golden run is almost unmatched in the history of film. Each one an exemplar of its genreβ¦
Spinal Tap
Stand By Me
The Princess Bride
When Harry Met Sally
Misery
A Few Good Men
(Yeah I left out The Sure Thing, maybe I should have included it but you get the idea) He tells perfectly crafted stories with great dialogue delivered by actors giving career best performances.
My best guess is that he always worked with great writers - Goldman, Ephron, Sorkin - and there was usually a good source novel. He used to write for TV so he understood screenplays, and Sorkin says they spent 6 weeks interrogating the script for AFGM before shooting started.
What are the script beats heβs hitting every time that work so well?
Heβs an actor so I guess he understands how to elicit a good performance.
His films feel very formal and traditional, but at the same time he sprinkles on enough magic in dialogue and delivery that every moment pops and never feels tired. He knows how to engross a viewer from beginning to end like few other directors, and his stories always feel βcompleteβ (unlike Spielberg whose only two weaknesses are endings and the comedy genre)
Any thoughts on how Reiner was able to make classic after classic, and why that golden era came to an end?

Rob Reiner made an indelible print on popular culture. He had one of the greatest stretches of films that one can imagine; he directed classic comedy and family films that are still regarded as the top of their genres today, including Spinal Tap, Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, and When Harry Met Sally in a five year span. As he matured as a director, he transitioned to more serious pieces such as A Few Good Men, The American President, and Misery with ease.
I don't think enough is said of his career. He brought out the best in his actors, crew, and genre.
Watching it again for the Nth time over many years,
Sublime non-horror Stephen King story, with the narration by Richard Dreyfuss) using many of the superb lines of the novella.
The acting is simply wonderful, makes one again realise what a huge & tragic loss was River Phoenix's shockingly early passing - but all the other kids and the baddies (incl. a young Kiefer Sutherland) are splendid in it.
The story is one of those Stephen King gems that perfectly captures a key stage of growing up, and with a charming & thrilling adventure manages to hammer home many major thoughts about loss of innocence, kids' vs. adults' world, morality, principles, and how one chooses directions that will govern one's whole life.
"We've only been gone two days - but somehow the town seemed different. Smaller."
