A list of puns related to "Riyoko Ikeda"
I was talking to my wife about manga yesterday, and she recalled reading a manga which was serialised which she read as a teenager in Japan. She mentioned that it was definitely by Ikeda, and towards the end it took on a horror theme and ended (she thinks, this is over 30 years ago....) with the lead character's face being ripped off or at least torn into by her husband/boyfriend due to them losing their mind.
Sounds like a pretty scary read....but she'd like to read it again (!) but has no idea what it was called.
I kinda doubt it was ever translated, so it's a longshot here, but if anyone has a idea what it might be, please do let me know : )

Hi!
I've been trying really hard to find the scans for Orpheus no Mado by Riyoko Ikeda for like a month but every sites I found had only the three first volumes. Does anyone happen to know if the completed serie has been translated at all? If so, where can I read it?
Thanks!

Once there was a website called OneManga.com back in the 2000s and if you were a manga-reading teenager like me back then thats where you you got access to manga. Which unfortunately means piracy. Shame.
So whenever I remember a manga that I read back in the day I try to buy it legally to make up for what I did. And recently I have obtained the five volumes (the complete story) of The Rose of Versailles. And since that was an expensive investment and am not entirely sure if I ended up finishing it, I have been re-reading The Rose of Versailles.
And I have to say the reread has been rewarding.
Maybe its because the story of Marie Antoinette is a timelessly fascinating moment in history (the story is about Marie Antoinette and the French Revolution by the way) or that Oscar de Jarjayes is so awesome. I really appreciate Riyoko Ikedaโs first attempt at trans representation with Oscar, even though its not accurate (the character is raised as a boy) she still tried to portray a trans character in a positive way. And I just think that was really sweet of her. After RoV she even made a short story Claudine about another transmasc character who this time was the main character and this time had more accuracies put in.
Also did you know that Ikeda left the manga industry for a time to become an opera singer? Yeah she did! Donโt believe me? Hereโs a link > https://youtu.be/0PKzx_kyras (she still does manga now but she does a lot of performance art more so now)
Oh yeach I was talking about RoV on the reread. I think a lot of times when we think of Marie Antoinette we forget that she was just a little girl when she was sent to France to begin her journey into monarchy. I remember watching Sofia Coppolaโs film adaptation of Marie Antoinette which was meant to invoke some of the issues a teenage girl might face (that film is more about Marie Antoinette than it is about the French Revolution). And RoV kind of does something similar, portraying Marie Antoinette as this sweet beautiful girl who through no fault of her own got swept up into something she didnโt fully understand, all designed by the adults in her life, and all she wanted to do was have a good time and She misses her mother so dearly (they get separated when she was just 14).
I know a little bit about Marie Antoinette and the French Revolution, and what i can say is that RoV is pretty accurate without being a bore. Oscar wasnโt a

First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month and here in Helsinki, we have Pride Week in the final week of June. Regardless of where you live, Pride Month is a time for increased visibility of LGBTQ+ people and with that intent in mind, I came up with this Compilation Watch This Thread for anime featuring characters that fall under the LGBTQ+ umbrella, organized by letters in LGBTQ.
Beware of spoilers beyond this point. These spoilers will reveal the queer identity of characters in various anime.
#Anime With Lesbians
##Yuri Kuma Arashi (Yuri Bear Storm)
Yurikuma Arashi is a direct critique of the idea that Girls' Love is pure and free of any sexual desire. The idea that lesbian love is a form of fleeting adolescent intimacy between girls allows people (often straight males) to indulge in a voyeuristic fantasy by stripping would-be lesbians of their sexuality and treating their intimacy as a platonic relationship that's merely service for onlookers. Yurikuma Arashi is a critique of how queer people are often commodified and their personal identities are drastically altered for the sake of conformity. The lesbians in Yurikuma Arashi express desire for the same sex (NSFW LINK) and this causes them to be excluded from the rest of society. Yurikuma Arashi is about stereotypes associated with lesbians and the pressure on them to conform to those stereotypes and how acceptance can break down oppressive hierarchies within a society that makes victims out of queer people.
Yurikuma Arashi can be streamed on Funimation.
##Yagate Kimi ni Naru (Bloom Into You)
Bloom Into You is a recent anime and it's quickly asserted its position as one of the most influential works in the LGBTQ+ community. Yuu Koito, the protagonist of the anime is in love with the idea of love yet when a guy confesses to her, she realizes she's incapable of experiencing it herself. This changes when she meets Touko Nanami as both struggle to come to terms with their feelings for each other. Bloom Into You highlights how confusing your first relationship can be especially when you haven't quite figured yourself out yet.
Bloom Into You can be streamed on HIDIVE.

Earlier today, TV Asahi's "150,000 People Vote with Their Hands! Manga General Election" was shown in Japan, where Japanese manga fans voted for their all time favorite manga series. Riyoko Ikeda - Source author
> A manga artist, singer, and poet best known for her immensely popular shลjo manga The Rose of Versailles and being a member of the Year 24 Group. When attending Tokyo University of Education Ikeda began drawing as a way of sustaining herself, since her fatherโs financial support was set to end before the completion of her degree, first illustrating and later being scouted by a publisher. Around this time she also joined the Democratic Youth League of Japan, which was affiliated with the Japanese Communist Party, and partook in student movements. When serialization of The Rose of Versailles began in 1972, the work was such an unprecedented hit that Ikeda was asked to work on it more, which meant Ikeda had to drop out of university in order to dedicate herself to it full time.
