Do tics always have a premonitory urge?

I don’t have TS i just have anxiety tics (I think at least ;-;) but I couldn’t really find a good subreddit to post on-

Things like head nodding and sniffing just kinda happen without warning

The premonitory urge (the uncomfy energy before you tic) hasn't left even when I'm not ticcing. advice?

The title pretty much sums it up. I had a really bad tic week last week, and while my ticcing has calmed down, the uncomfortable energy that happens before I tic hasn't left. I have sensory issues and this is not helping lol. Any insight on what's going on or how to solve it, if it's something I can magic away, would be appreciated! Has anyone had premonitory dreams about the death of a family member?

The dream that I would never forget is a funeral in a hospital, when I woke up I felt something strange. Months later my uncle detected a brain tumor but 3 months after the diagnosis he died in the hospital with terrible agony. I was taking care of him without being able to sleep for days in that hospital.

I was wondering if anyone would have these premonitory dreams regarding the deaths of people or family members.

Experience with trapped bird, foreshadowing/Omen of near death & premonitory feelings

This is a story very near to my heart. I'm wondering if my experience with this bird was something others have had or if this was just specific to this event. {WARNING- DOMESTIC VIOLENCE RELATED}

When I was young I was having lunch at my grandmother and while we sat on the porch a bird comes darting in, makes a big circle above our heads, it looked absolutely terrified, it then started flying into this corner over and over again confused, this really caught my attention as it was very unusual.

I asked my grandmother to come look and she immediately puts her hand to her heart and says "This is not good" she tells my grandpa, who gets a long pole and a t-shirt and he is able to cover the bird and set it free, my grandmother said smt like, "poor thing it must have been horrible, it makes my heart sink" 😒. My grandmother really looked distressed, and later on she admitted having an overwhelming feeling of being in a life and death situation

The very next day, my father enters our home without permission and tortures and tries to murder my mother. Again the same people, me, grandfather & grandmother (who saved that bird the day before) save my mother, who was being brutally beaten and locked in a room. First I hear the commotion, I dash to the street and alert someone who calls my grandparents, my grandmother and grandfather come to the house by truck , my grandfather stops my father at gun point and my granny holds my mother who is then saved.

I cannot stress this enough, but I know as a fact deep deep in my heart that, the bird that flew in that day was a message about what was to come. That was one of the scariest things I had to experience and also the reason why I think there's more to the world than our eyes can see.

But I wonder if anybody has had any similar experiences with birds before or was it specific to us?

Premonitory dreams

I've discovered, through years, but now I know it for sure, that I do premonitory dreams. I didn't have too much of them tbh, a couple when I was in high school but do not even remember those, and other through the years which I didn't payed too much attention on. Now I am 25 and recently (last 2 years) I noticed this "ability" more often, I have 2 examples that I consider important: 2020 - x members of the family bought some fish for my father in law (is the right term? Eng is not my 1st language), a couple of days after I dreamed that all the fish would have died, and that's what happened after 2, weeks, they still don't even know the cause.

NOW - My boyfriend's and I cat escaped on 26.12, we searched for her every day, but didn't have notices. Other yesterday I had a dream where we found her and yesterday she sight her nearby - she didn't escaped too far from home, but still didn't appeared in all this days, neither I dreamed her since she did.

All to say that I want to improve this ability I have, but don't how.

Ps: Again, be patient if I've make some language error (in case I ask you to correct me).---

Premonitory dreams

I have been documenting most of my dreams in the last couple of years. After re-reading my dream journal, I noticed that some of them from this year were premonitory and actually ended up happening. Just this last month, I had 3 separate dreams –on different nights– and in the course of day they became reality.

For instance, I dreamt I got into an ugly fight with my aunt while her daughter played dead, saying she was angry and didn't want to see me again. A couple of hours after waking up, I hear my grandmother speaking on the phone with my aunt who was screaming at her, crying frantically; just like in my dream. I left my house and in the evening my grandma told me that my cousin (my aunt's daughter) refuses to speak to her again...

Another example: Yesterday I had a dream I wore a pair of pants I actually own. It was worn down and had a tear in the knee area. I vaguely remembered the pants in my dream, just not that specific detail, and decided to put them on. I went out to the park and tripped and fell really hard on my knee. This is starting to really freak me out.

Has anyone else encountered this? What the heck?

I think I have premonitory dreams

I'm writing this on my phone so I apologize in advance for formatting. I started having this type of dreams since I was approximately 15 (I'm 20 now) and they always follow the same procedure: I wake up from a dream and I'm able to remember it perfectly for longer that any other dream, although I end up forgetting about it as the day goes by Then time happens, the first time I had one of this dreams it took like a year or two since I had the dream until I saw it happen, but the time varies. Before what I see in the dream happens I have an intense feeling like I've dreamt it, and I can tell it apart from a typical DΓ©jΓ  Vu, it's a completely different feeling, yet I can't describe it. And then the events take place, but I can't react in time (this has been changing over time, I just don't do anything to change whats going on because nothing bad happens, idk if I'm explaining this in a way everyone can understand) Again this has been going on for years, and I've never said anything because I don't want people to think I'm crazy of something I want to know if this happens to someone else and if there's a way I can get rid of it of exploit it or something. I will be answering to any questions there may be in the comments (And I apologize again if the post isn't organized or if it's messy, English is not my first language and I don't know how to get my feelings across)

Is anyone else affected by premonitory urges?

I don't know if anyone else feels like this, but sometimes when I get a premonitory urge, it'll be right in my chest (it changes depending on the tic, I can sometimes feel them in my head or arms or legs or throat depending on where the tic is going to be) but when it's in my chest sometimes it can make it feel hard to breathe, almost like a panic response, but it goes away as soon as I tic so I know it's not panic. But it feels similar, like a tightness in my chest or like I got the wind knocked out of me without the pain.

Usually I feel this with "tic combos" or really intense tics, but even the premonitory urge is difficult to handle and I find that really frustrating and wanted to know if anyone else felt this or experienced this

Premonitory Dream Andrew Gosden

I hope I don't seem crazy, I'm from Mexico, I use the Google translator, I felt the need to share this but sometimes I usually see the future in my dreams, always with many symbolisms that later pass as I dreamed ... just my husband, family and Close friends know about this as well as have verified it. When I have a dream that I know will be premonitory, I rush to tell them to see what happens next, although it always ends up scarying me and I close myself off not having those dreams.

Well I am very interested in the case of Andrew Gosden and one night I told myself that I should dream about him and where he is, I had a dream where there was a house with a garden at the entrance there was a large vase type flowerpot next to the front door and a Police were taking out a mummified body in a fetal position that I was carrying when I saw it, it was Amy Winehouse ...

Honestly I am not a fan of Amy but I related him to Andrew because they are both English and I know that my dreams are always symbolic. One day watching a star autopsy program I discovered that the day Amy born was on September 14, which coincides with the anniversary of Andrew's disappearance, data that I did not know at all as well as that the bodyguard who found Amy is called Andrew also that Amy died at her home in Covent Garden in London which is one of the places where it is believed that there was a sighting of Andrew ... I really had no idea of this data before my dream ...

I guess I'll just have to wait if my dream will come true or not ... I hope I don't listen to me like crazy but it really happens to me, I just wanted to share it, I hope I don't offend anyone or that they offend me. :)

Do you have free will over premonitory dreams ? If so how much ?

Is it determinism at play ? For example I had a dream saying "later, magic defenses will be put on new houses" (to put in context without making this too long I have "psychic" problem that I drag with me since now 3 years and I'm quite incapacitated because of it).

So doing dream analyses, we found out that the situation was okay and that I will heal sooner or later. The healing process has started since now January but it's not easy recovery, there are a lot of obstacles.

I haven't done anything major yet to shift the course of my healing, or at least the one that I provoked looked so easy to trigger that I thought it's just ridiculous if my destiny indicated by the dream remains on such a thin thread and that I must take THAT amount of cautiousness.

I know Carl Jung analyzed dreams of patients that says they're going to die if they don't watch out for this and this.. so you can actually escape your destiny, and no surprise here that's exactly what scares me. I don't know if the dream anticipated the whole scheme of my behavior and obstacles encounters' or if it just predict that more or less whatever I do (or at least whatever I do out of the ordinary) my healing will go on.

That's tough to figure out for me, in my current state I can't really examine myself.

Thank you dearly for any useful answers.

I've decided to stop resisting premonitory urges.

Since I've recently started exploring my disorder I've been ticking a lot more. I joined a support group on Discord and have been able to banter with other for the first time in my life. My job is fine with it and super supportive, so...

I'm making a conscious effort to stop making a conscious effort. I was always someone who couldn't be clocked unless you spent lots of one on one time with me, despite having coprolalia. Not anymore!!! And it feels amazing. I'm happier. Tics feel good and relieve pressure. I never noticed how much I was pushing it down until I stopped and I feel LIBERATED.

I wanted to breathe some life into this choice by sharing it with others because it's an important milestone. I have tics, and that's okay. It's not weird, it's not wrong and I choose to not feel uncomfortable about it anymore, cause I love myself. I hope somebody reading this can relate, or can find inspiration to set an emotional goal that want for themselves, as well.

Considering how much I drop the f-bomb, I maaaaay need to get a pin though πŸ˜…

Can premonitory urges before the tics feel physical?

I know that it's compared to the URGE that comes with the feeling of needing to scratch an itch, blink your dry eyes, or clear your dry throat, but do ppl with tics physically FEEL a sensation associated with an urge to release it with a tic?

Sometimes I feel a burning sensation, and an urge to blurt out a curse word to get rid of it, especially if I'm experiencing something that's pissing me off. The whole experience just makes me more angry than I would be initially, and so it creates a vicious cycle. I can control it if need be, but I'm wondering if anybody else experiences ACTUAL physical sensations.

My dad thinks this dream was premonitory, I think it's just coincidence

A couple days ago I asked my dad if our country (Argentina)'s football/ soccer team had won a game by a big margin (I don't care about football in the slightest, but there's some cup going on), he said no it's always been 1-0. I then realized I'd dreamt of such a match. Last night I get home and he tells me my dream was premonitory and we won like that. I said "wait, don't tell me: in my dream it was 4 goals" and yeah it was correct. I'd also dreamt the other team scored 1 which was correct too. So, apparently I called it.

For context, my dad is an experienced psychiatrist and psychoanalyst and is into dreams as well. I have utmost respect for him as a professional. I've also had one premonitory dream which is 100% unexplainable otherwise so this wouldn't be new. Still, this is just some number within a normal life scenario, but he insists. In theory there're 25 possible results if each team could have anywhere from 0 to 4 points, but I don't think 1 in 25 is an accurate probability at all, since some results are much more likely than others.

Premonitory dreams - what are they?

The β€œgift” (I don’t know what else to call it) of premonitory dreams runs in my family. Both my father and his mother have it, and all my life I’ve grown up hearing stories of them having dreams of bad things happening to my family that later happened for real. They usually predict major bad things, like deaths, accidents and illnesses of relatives, sometimes dreaming of the actual episode, sometimes through symbolic images. No one in my family ever asked why this happened - we’re not spiritual people - but today my father had yet another one of these dreams, and this sparked my interest. Why this happens? Is this a gift, a special sensibility? Is this passed down to the next generation? (I’m asking this since my father and grandmother have it and I’m wondering if me or one of my siblings could possibly β€œinherit” it). I’m sorry if I sound naive, but keep in mind that I’m entering this world for the very first time. Oh, and as I type I remembered that my father also had several experiences of seeing spirits/ghosts. Any insight on these topics will be greatly appreciated!

Is it possible for a tic to start due to previous self harm? Can you get tics without premonitory sensations?
  • I don't believe I actually have a tic disorder, especially not tourettes, but I do have tics (mostly motor but I developed a phonic tic for the first time around 2 weeks ago and it's happening more frequently) and that took a lot of forcing myself to realize I'm not faking. I consider my tics to be pretty mild as well.
  • I was in CAMHS (for those of you not in the UK, it stands for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) and I was suppose to get assessed for a tic disorder and I don't think I was. I wouldn't be surprised if they did but the whole service can be confusing as hell. I'm not sure if I'm fully discharged from the service.
  • The first time I ticked was when I was 13 and that was when my self-esteem decided to go yeet out a window. Tics were a rare occurrence back then. I got them properly when I was 14/15 and I'm going to be 17 in January. I think my tics are usually triggered by stress, feeling anxious and low mood though I get them pretty regularly nowadays.

I'm not sure if I even needed to put those details above but I thought I should put them in anyway. I harmed myself in the past and while I was never addicted, the urges never quite go away. Anyways, I have a punching tic and it shows up a bit more when I'm feeling overwhelmed and low. One way I used to harm myself was punch myself. I'm wondering, is it possible for a certain tic to be caused by self harm in the past?

I used to harm myself to get rid of tension (doesn't work) amongst other reasons and tics sort of do the same. That punching tic feels related to it.

Also, can you get tics without premonitory sensations? I don't really feel much aside from the fact that I might feel a bit tense and that can be a sign I'll tic a bit more. It's almost sudden, though if I'm ticking a lot in a short space of time, I'm more aware of them so I'll try to suppress it which lasts a couple seconds and then I think I'm doing it on purpose because I was thinking about my tics.

All in all, tics are confusing.

I guess I just want some reassurance that I'm not faking (I know I know, bit contradictory to what I said earlier). But please be completely honest if you reply.

Thanks ^__^

tl;dr; I harmed myself in the past by punching myself and have a punching tic which I think was caused by self harm. I don't really get premonitory sensations and I want to know if that is possible.

Premonitory urge

Anybody else get premonitory urges before some twitches? I came across the concept while exploring a rabbit hole, haha. I haven't been sleeping well lately, and well, you guys know the drill! Too much time for WebMD when laying awake at 3 AM...

In any case, Wiki describes them as, "uncomfortable feelings or sensations preceding tics that usually are relieved by [a particular] movement." They seem to be common in the case of tic disorders, like Tourette's, but I experience something similar for my leg twitches sometimes, usually somewhere in my quads or right about the knee. It happens most frequently when my legs are really straight, like if I'm lying down on my back or if I have been standing very straight for a bit. The muscle will tighten, very briefly, and then sort of shake itself out and twitch. It won't cause my leg to kick out or anything like that. It doesn't happen in the entire quad, but just a localized part of it (although some are a little broader or deeper than others). The tightening isn't painful, and the release actually feels kinda of nice, tbh. I think I've experienced this in other areas (maybe my triceps?), but 99% of the time it's above my knee and below my waist.

In the past, sometimes I've gotten nervous that these are the cramps you see mentioned with serious neurological diseases, but everything I've read about those cramps suggest they are unmistakable due to their severity. These aren't like that, at least as far as I can tell. They're short lived, not painful, not debilitating - if I'm standing when one happens, my body won't even budge.

Anyways, I searched this thread for "premonitory urges" and nothing came up, so figured I'd ask if anyone else feels them. I'm not worried about them - I've been twitching for long enough to accept that I have anxiety and/or a truly benign, non-progressive condition - but am curious. Thanks!

EDIT: Oh, and they sometimes happen in my face. I forgot about that. Whenever I have a hot spot in my face (which is uncommon for me), I sometimes get a premonitory urge before the twitch.

Sensory tics that aren’t just premonitory urges??

So I know that some tics (whether vocal or motor) start with a kind of premonitory urge (sometimes), and I’m aware these premonitory urges are sometimes called sensory tics.

I’m just wondering if it is possible to experience sensory tics without them being a premonitory urge? So like a random sensation that just happens and that’s all the tic is? So not followed up by or cause the desire to have any motor or vocal tic.

If so than it’ll definitely make a lot of sense in my case.

I tend to get quite a bit of random sensations in random places of my body for seemingly no reason (brought this up to the doctor, had a number of tests done, everything was fine, I’m also only 23 and like to keep fit) and they can at times get quite painful, I’ve also been getting this very painful cramp like sensation in a specific area on my torso when I touch it, I’ve been getting this since I was 10-12 and still get it.

Just yeah, wondering if it’s possible for them to be sensory tics and Tourette’s related?

How to identify precognitive/prophetic/premonitory dreams?

For my scientific project on precognitive dreams, I have started to work on a system for identifying precognitive dreams both based on the dreams themselves and their correlation with posterior events. Based on the opinions of several experts and my own experience I suggest that the probability of a dream being actually a prophetic one is the higher the more of the following points are found to be true (but none of them is by itself a universal sign, proof or evidence of precognition):

In the dream before any matching real event occurs you can identify:

  • Crystal-clear and impressive imagery.
  • Very odd elements (events, characters objects) that do not remind you anything you have seen nor anybody you have known before.
  • An intense feeling, such as fear, horror, sadness, surprise, etc.
  • Stunning inflection points.
  • A clear message or moral.

Please notice that I believe more ordinary dreams may be of precognitive nature too, but it is much more difficult to prove that due to the high frequency of such ordinary events and therefore a high probability of coincidence.

When you compare a real event apparently matching the dream:

  • Dream and real events are separated by just a few days or a couple of weeks.
  • Multiple visual elements of the dream coincide with the real event.
  • Dream and real event emotions coincide.
  • Other perceptions such as color, sound, smell, feel, etc. coincide.
  • The real event could not have been logically deduced or subconsciously perceived at the time of the dream.

Please let me know what is your opinion, and if your own system involves other criteria.

I sometimes have that awful, uncomfortable premonitory urge feeling, but even when the tic happens, the feeling doesn’t go away. There are definitely times when ticcing does happen, and the relief happens too... but sometimes (like today) there is no relief, and no strong compulsion. Like it’s the feeling of the urge to tic, but no specific tic seems to want to happen, just the uncomfortable feeling with no relief.

Premonitory Dream ?

Hi,

I have a question for yall bc i dont explain what happened last night and im very concerned about it..

So, my roommate dreamed that my "boyfriend" was committing suicide by jumping off a building that i know and it was because of a fight between him and me and the strangest thing is that this morning he tell me "Its super strange but i really want to kill myself" and i dont know how to explain the fact that she dreams about it right before he tells me that ? (he never said anything like that before)

Did someone have experienced that or have an explication ?

Have a lovely day yall β™‘

Anyone else have cold premonitory urges?

I've heard of people getting itchy, but never really heard anyone mention getting cold. It feels like a normal chill with a tic added to it.

Do people with longer premonitory urges feel like they’re faking it more?

I have really long premonitory urges, that’s part of why I’m able to at times suppress my tics, but there’s plenty of time that I can’t. But because I feel the urges so β€œlong” (a few seconds)before the tic itself it gives me this anxiety that because I know it’s gonna happen it must not be actually compulsive.

Does anyone else relate to this? Do people with shorter premonitory urges/people who can’t suppress their tics have this anxiety about faking it as well?

Do you always get premonitory urges before ticking or just sometimes?

When I tic I sometimes get a tingly feeling but it’s not ALL the time. I usually get them before a big tic or just constant tics. Does anyone else only get premonitory urges sometimes or do you get them before every tic?
