My short bio: NICK ARCADE was a hit game show series that premiered on Nickelodeon in 1992, where two teams contested with trivia and a range of gaming consoles for a chance to actually go INSIDE a video game - a full-body motion-tracking virtual reality environment foreshadowing Wii and Kinect, and the techniques later used to film Avatar. Arcade was created by James Bethea and Karim Miteff, friends who met at New York's Bronx High School of Science. Post Arcade, Bethea was the network exec-in-charge of several series including Star Trek Voyager and appeared as an actor in the movies Iron Man and Iron Man 2. Miteff, who led the development of Arcade's VR applications, is a prominent broadcast and post-production hardware dealer and accomplished 3D artist. As host, Phil Moore directed Arcade's traffic with an energy and creativity so infectious that he's since become a drinking game. Bethea and Miteff reunited with Moore at a 92nd St Y launch event for the 2013 book on Nickelodeon's "Golden Age": SLIMED! The reunited team began thinking about what a show like Arcade might look like if made today and have launched a crowdfunding effort to make this spiritual successor idea a reality, called Enthlevel. But that's not the thrust of this AMA. For them it's mainly a chance to connect with those who are curious about their experiences, while for fans of pop-culture, gaming and tech, it's a chance to have a conversation that's nostalgic, current and forward thinking all at the same time.
