A list of puns related to "Perspicuity"
Online on Twitter, there are currently some fiery 'conversations' between egalitarian and complementarian theologians, pastors, writers and bloggers. The debate on what women can or can't do is spilling over into a debate about inerrancy, as some complementarians accuse egalitarians of ignoring the authority of Scripture which, in their opinion, undoubtedly and clearly aligns with their beliefs.
That got me thinking about the doctrine of perspicuity of Scripture, which says (quoting gotquestions here) "that the central message of the Bible is clear and understandable and that the Bible itself can be properly interpreted in a normal, literal sense." From the Reformers' perspective it makes sense to claim this, as they put the Bible in everyone's hands, in their own language. Take it and read!
I think it's fairly obvious that this doctrine has its limits. Through the Spirit, anyone reading Scripture can come to faith! But not everything is obvious to everyone when reading Scripture in a 'normal, literal sense'. No one will deny that, I think.
Even so, do we remember that we are reading translations of Scripture, when we cite this or that prooftext? Are we sure that verse is correctly translated? Some words have concepts or notions behind them, in their source language, that are very difficult to correctly translate into other languages; sometimes these are even completely absent in the receiving language. And do we have enough of a grasp of the context (Biblical, cultural, historical) to understand what it meant to the original readers?
As the work of scholars continues, we have ever more papyri or manuscripts to work with, more source material to determine how certain words functioned in koine Greek or how they were understood in other early languages and translations. A good reason to give our translations a 'booster shot' every now and then, I think: they need to be refreshed in the light of current scholarship.
And then there is ideological bias in translation work. That can go in all sorts of directions. The translators of a new and important Dutch translation (NBV2021) were accused by conservative Reformed people of having removed gendered language where they shouldn't have, an accusation fairly easily repudiated by the scholars involved I think. Across the pond, in the egalitarian-complementarian debate raging in the Anglosphere, the ESV is said to have a strong complementarian bent.
Let's not confuse the authority of Scripture with the

22nd Ward - CCG Branch Office - 10th of June, 11:35
[OOC: Context]
The CCG office was almost empty at such a busy work hour. Of course, such occurrence stood not without reason, considering the operation that the organization undertook the night prior. At this time the surviving investigators were either hospitalized, taking the day off, or collecting evidence on the battlefield of the 22nd ward. Most of the time CCG operations would not be divulged to the wider public, but when they encompassed such a wide area it was impossible to maintain secrecy without risking innocent lives. And yet, at the same time, the city of Tokyo and all of its citizens continued their daily routine, as if the bloody confrontation that terrorized an entire ward didn't even happen. Some would argue that such cold indifference was a bad attitude to have when it came to other people's plights, much more so considering they lived in the same city. But this was not the first time their streets were bathed with blood. Would it be better for them to grief over each massacre caused by ghouls? Hardly. After all, in which other way could they maintain themselves as a functioning society? Best to let the investigator do their jobs.
This was not the first time, and will not be the last...
Izumi quietly sat on a chair in the empty office room, watching the movement of the streets down below through the wide window glass with crossed arms and his expressionless face. The medics had advised him to remain at home for a few days, to rest the exhaustion and recover from the wounds of a whole day of uninterrupted fighting. He complied at first, but after returning to his house at a time nearing daybreak, the investigator only took the liberty of cleaning himself in the shower and changing his bloody uniform before going back to work. After all, there were some sensitive matters to be dealt with that couldn't wait for him to be in a better condition.
Turning around in the swivel chair to face his desk again, Izumi glanced over the files spread on the surface of the table. He had been organizing those for the past few hours. Most of them were directly related to the ghouls the investigator fought against during the operation, the deceased Ironclad included, but one of them was on top of the others and had clearly taken his attention and focus. He simply stood there for what seemed li

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Alot of great jokes get posted here! However just because you have a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT NSFW, THIS IS ABOUT LONG JOKES, BLONDE JOKES, SEXUAL JOKES, KNOCK KNOCK JOKES, POLITICAL JOKES, ETC BEING POSTED IN A DAD JOKE SUB
Try telling these sexual jokes that get posted here, to your kid and see how your spouse likes it.. if that goes well, Try telling one of your friends kid about your sex life being like Coca cola, first it was normal, than light and now zero , and see if the parents are OK with you telling their kid the "dad joke"
I'm not even referencing the NSFW, I'm saying Dad jokes are corny, and sometimes painful, not sexual

But no, seriously. I understand rule 7 is great to have intelligent discussion, but sometimes it feels like 1 in 10 posts here is someone getting upset about the jokes on this sub. Let the mods deal with it, they regulate the sub.
