Anyone else using PeopleSoft?

I am brand new to HR and learning to use PeopleSoft for the first time. This software is an absolute nightmare. Nothing is logical. It seems like something that would have been used in Windows 95, except worse lol... Can anyone else sympathize with my woes here? πŸ˜† Are there better options I could look into and possibly suggest for the company? How difficult would migration be?

Who has viewing permission on your PeopleSoft account?

I am not a public servant as of January 2020 but always wondered in my 20+years of working for the federal government: WHO has access to my personal info on my PeopleSoft account? Over the years, I was always encouraged to declare my race. I am MΓ©tis. I refused and was constantly reminded by a former manager. I guess she had access to my PeopleSoft but am curious to know who else had access to my personal information on PeopleSoft, such as address, emergency contacts etc? Does that include TBS? And who exactly at TBS has permission to access such info? Am I able to ATIP to find out who had access say in year 2019 before my departure? I used to work for Health Canada.

Many thanks and stay safe, folks!

Protip: Unclick "show open classes only" default in Peoplesoft-- it is not your friend

Protip, especially for first-years: lots of courses are cross-listed across 2 or more departments/programs. If you decide to browse through "History" and leave that box clicked (the Peoplesoft default unfortunately), you are not going to see classes where the History dept section is closed but where the Anthro or Religious Studies or Pol Sci or GSWS or Jewish studies or whatever cross-listed section has some places available. And it doesn't matter which section you are in: if you are in the Anthro section, the course still counts for your History major and vice versa. I hate to check the course enrollments and see a bunch of students waitlisted for one section when there are seats available in the other section. (Same course, same professor, same gen-ed, same major/minor requirements but someone savvier than you who knows to unclick that box will get into that class before you.)

Peoplesoft says I haven't completed all degree requirements when I know I have?

So I graduated yesterday and thought I was okay and fine since I have been receiving all the emails inviting me to the ceremony and to come get my Honors cords and everything, but when I checked my graduation requirements on Peoplesoft after not getting an official email saying I have officially graduated today, I got worried and sure enough, apparently, I have not complete 2 core courses and an elective course for my degree according to the software. I checked my course history and transcript and I am sure I have completed all my course requirements, but they were not marked as complete on Peoplesoft.

I just emailed my degree advisor asking for help and clarification. Hopefully, she gets back to me soon with answers so I can stop worrying.

Vacation and PeopleSoft when switching departments

I'm looking at moving to NRCan from a department that uses PeopleSoft.

Does NRCan use PeopleSoft? And how long should I expect for my leave balances to move over?

One more thing. I have a vacation for 3 weeks in July that my management has approved in email.

I haven't submitted the request through PeopleSoft as I wasn't sure if this is something I should do before I switch departments or after? If the vacation is approved in PeopleSoft would that mean I have approval even if I switch departments?

Thank you!

PeopleSoft - SPRING CROWNS ERROR

PeopleSoft responded to reports about Spring Crowns errors. In some cases, the highest earning players on a team earned less crowns than those with lower scores.

The response from PeopleSoft is that it looks like there is a bug in their system that gave some players higher Crowns than they should have earned and that they are working on it and the Spring Crowns will eventually be adjusted to indicate the correct one earned.

Coming back from LWOP and accessing Phoenix / Peoplesoft

I did a cursory search and only came up with some unrelated stuff from years ago. Has anyone recently returned from LWOP and been unable to access Phoenix and peoplesoft? Of course the pay centre is aware but is there anything else I should be doing? I won’t even ask how long it usually takes because I know that’s completely random. Is it the pay centre that activates it once they confirm I’m back to work?

Edit: by not being able to access it I mean being unable to submit leave or timesheets because I β€œdon’t exist”. I’m able to log in though.

Frustrated with Peoplesoft schedule?

I wish there was one place in all of Pittdom that I could just see my whole schedule in one place.

The calendar view of schedule does not match the list view (I think because recitations don't appear on weekly?) and since then two of my classes have changed their Zoom times.

Now that I've drawn up my own schedule, I had to change my availability with work and my internship since the beginning of the semester. (Edit: plus I've had to miss a couple classes.)

Anyone else feel like this could be easier for students?

PeopleSoft Database Migration to AWS RDS Oracle

Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anyone has used AWS DMS to migrate the whole peoplesoft oracle database to AWS RDS? We have database around 1/2 a TB and wanted to use this service to migrate the whole database. However the worry I have is the long list of limitations on aws documentation regarding using oracle as the source database:

https://docs.aws.amazon.com/dms/latest/userguide/CHAP_Source.Oracle.html#CHAP_Source.Oracle.Limitations

Will these limitations impact a peoplesoft oracle database?

Many thanks!

Does anyone's campus (preferably a public CA university) use Oracle/PeopleSoft to calculate aid, and use the automated processes instead of manual processes?

At my university we've been told that the reason financial aid is taking so long to be dispersed is because aid must be calculated manually per student. I thought it was just a systemwide policy, but I was looking into PeopleSoft which we use, and it looks like they have automated processes. But this page makes it look like while there is a manual process, there are also automated processes that can be used. It looks like this manual also lists options for mass packaging.

Does anyone's university use this? Or have noticed the long waits induced by the manual packaging option?

CUNYFirst Blue Oracle PeopleSoft Page

Good afternoon,

I am an incoming transfer student to LaGuardia Community College and I have an issue accessing CUNYFirst. Whenever I try to log in to CUNYFirst, I end up getting a blue Oracle PeopleSoft error page. I'm registered for classes with the help of an advisor. I have access to DegreeWorks, FACTS, and Blackboard. It's the just the CUNYFirst link I don't have access to. Here's what I've done:

  1. Cleared my cache and tried logging in. Tried going back one page and reentering.

  2. Tried it on Google Chrome, Safari, and Mozilla Firefox. Still no access.

  3. Tried to log in using someone else's phone. It logged in for THEM and their account even though I used my credentials to login. Unusual.

  4. Contacted LAGCC's Student Help Desk. First I needed help with registration and I was asked if I still needed assistance (July 30). I replied the same day, that yes, I do, as I would like to have CUNYFirst access so I can register classes for myself in the future. I resent another email on (Aug 3), the only thing I received back was my trouble ticket number in the subject line. Nothing in the body of the email. ???

  5. I contacted someone that apparently knows someone in IT and someone from IT forwarded them instructions to give to me to claim my account. Which I already have, I have access to everything else but the CUNYFirst link. Still, I tried it anyway and all it said was that I already claimed my account. So I sent a reply back explaining the blue error and what I can do to gain CUNYFirst access.

Is anyone else encountering this issue? How was it resolved? All help is appreciated. Thank you.

Peoplesoft Error Codes

Does anyone know why I suddenly can't sign into my Peoplesoft account? Apparently it is an idea scoffed at by my advisor because they have never seen the error. When I asked why this might be the case, all I was told "that's weird, I've never seen that before". So obviously I ask how it can be fixed or who I should contact and guess what happened? I received no email.

Does anyone here have any idea what "onReadyState" might mean? Is it because I'm signed in elsewhere or is Pitt locking ME out of MY account?
