Looking for adventures? The entire catalog of Dungeon magazine is available online. 200+ issues.

When they were first published in the late 80s they were pretty popular. 3-7 modules in every issue, for less than the price of a full regular module. Maps, advice columns, new NPCs and magic items. β€œSide Treks” were short 2-4 page encounters that could be thrown in any campaign. I got the first issue at GenCon in 1986 and still have the first 50 or so issues.

Issues 1-17 were for 1st edition AD&D, with some BECMI content.

18-81 were 2nd edition, also with the occasional BECMI module. One of my faves is issue 19, which included a dungeon built around the Deck of Many Things, and pages to make your own deck.

82-154: 3rd / 3.5 edition. Starting in issue 96 they did β€œAdventure Paths”, a series of 12 or more modules that would take characters from levels 1-20. They did three of these in total: Shackled City, Age of Worms, and Savage Tide.

155-211: 4th edition. The magazine moved entirely online at this point, so the formatting changed. One adventure path, β€œScales of War” was published, with 16 modules taking characters from level 1-30.

In later issues, they included conversions of classic AD&D modules for the D&D Next system. The Giants series is there (G1-3), Village of Hommlet, Beyond the Crystal Cave, and issue 213 has Tomb of Horrors, complete with all the original artwork.

The Belgian magazine "Sabzian" and online magazines on film in general

While looking for texts by Jacques Rivette, I stumbled upon this really incredible online magazine "Sabzian". While it is based in Belgium, many(most?) articles are in English and cover a wide range of topics related to films and thinking about film, including many translations (for example this great in-depth eassay about Adorno's relationship to cinema).

I am really amazed that a site like this exists, does anyone know any other online film magazines like this?

I don't live in the UK, but my public library in the USA has a large selection of UK magazines, everything from Viz to The Simple Things to The World of Interiors. They also get every BBC magazine. I was just wondering if it's popular in the UK to buy physical copies of magazines or to subscribe to print magazines. Or do most people read magazines online?

And if you have any favourites, could you let me know?

What online political science magazines do you prefer? My go-to is Diplomacist.com, but I would love to expand my repertoire and check out other (possibly better) publications covering current events, new developments in academia, et cetera.

Sites that include well-researched op-eds would be excellent, and I'd be open to subscription-based physical magazines as well.

Hoping to replace my redditing with slightly healthier and informative habits!

Online blog/magazine wants to interview me saying it will boost my credibility. Need advice.

An editor for a relatively unknown business magazine messaged me for an interview wanting to talk about myself and my business. They were very transparent with what to expect and what not to expect. Here is the gist of it:

  1. It will add "social proof" for my newer customers, so when they Google my name/business, they will likely come across the interview.
  2. They will do a "due diligence check" to ensure my business is legit. (Not sure how thorough this will be, but I just sell small WordPress plugins and stuff mainly on Fiverr and my own site).
  3. It will NOT drive significant traffic to my site but is used more as a means of building me up as an expert in my service field and establishing trust with potential clients.

My question: I am leaning towards doing this, but are there any potential negative repercussions that I may not be aware of? They are not asking for any sensitive info, and the questions are pretty generic geared towards what I do and my thoughts on the industry (app development).

Also, they want to charge around $30 for publication, saying it is to cover the costs of publishing and editing my text replies (it is a text Q&A style interview) and verifying that my business is not doing anything nefarious.

Is this a good deal? They are clear about it not being a form of advertising and not expecting a huge boost in traffic, and I am ok with that as its slightly an ego thing for me as well to have someone interview me, and knowing potential clients will be impressed that someone thought I was worthy of an interview.

Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Super 8 Filmaker Magazine issues online! (1972-1981)

Back issues of Super 8 Filmaker magazine are now available through The Internet Archive: https://archive.org/details/pub_super-8-filmaker. You must sign up with a free account in order to read them through their library system.

For all the newcomers to 8mm--or motion picture film in general--this magazine was THE bible to many of us when Super8 was in it's prime. You'll find reviews of equipment like the Canon 514XL and articles like filming in 3D (by Lenny Lipton). Many of your questions will be answered by reading through its pages. I cannot stress enough how valuable a resource this is for those wanting to learn this craft. These along with the back issues of Cinemagic (also in the Internet Archive) will give you a wealth of material from the time when this technology was at it's height. Three cheers to whomever had the foresight to bring these online!

Looking for a website that converts online essays and articles into printable magazine-esque pdf formats.

Even if they aren't magazine-like, I would still prefer something that looks better than screenshots of articles printed out.

As a kid, I used to read a lot of readers digest, national geographic and other magazines l, but with technology those days are gone. Although many websites offer great content for reading, I feel nostalgic for that old print reading format and was hoping if I could find a website that would convert longform essays into downloadable pdfs.

Would greatly appreciate your help, thank you.

Solution File: A β€œMetric Acre” Would Integrate American Development Practices with Global Measures | Urban Land (online magazine)

Will Macht, (a professor of urban planning and development at the Center for Real Estate at Portland State University in Oregon,) suggests that the US real estate industry should use a "metric acre" measuring 60 m x 60 m: 3600 m^(2). (2021-09-131-2)

The article requires readers to register to gain access to the article, so I have copied his opening and some excerpts from the article, which is quite long.

(Excisions are marked by = = = = = = = = = = = = = = )

The metric acre could fill a missing intermediate scale between square meters and hectares and, like the metric ton, bridge the gap between the imperial and metric systems.

The United States is one of only three countriesβ€”the others beingΒ Myanmar and Liberiaβ€”that have not officially adopted the metric system as their primary means of weights and measures. While the Metric Conversion Act of 1975 designated the metric system as β€œthe preferred system of weights and measures for United States trade and commerce,” it did not mandate it, and American planners and developers continue to use inches, feet, and acres, while 95 percent of the world’s population uses centimeters, meters, and hectares.

Unfortunately, the metric system has no direct corollary to the imperial system’s acre. The usual conversion, and the one used in this magazine, is a hectare. But the hectareβ€”which comprises 2.47 acresβ€”is too large for most transactions and the square meter–which comprises 10.76 square feet–is too small.

Rather than directly convert each measurement from the imperial system, this author argues, American planners and developers should mediate the transition by using close approximations of their existing development practices, but which also fit precisely into the metric system. The adoption of a metrically accurate 60-by-60-meter metric acre (a metric mediation analogous to the metric ton) could form a mental framework into which planners and developers could more easily place daily experiences and practices. This could also make land use more effective, building products less expensive, appliances more efficient, and housing more affordable.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = =

The Case for a Metric Acre

Conversion between the imperial and metric systems is not intuitive and requires laborious, inefficient conversion of every measurement. Rapid swit

Lost: The Official Magazine collection is now online and available on archive.org

Heyho,

for the past couple of months I have worked on preserving the official Lost Magazine buy obtaining a complete collection, scanning and cropping every single page and turning them into pdfs as I think it's important to keep this part of Lost history and the work that has gone into creating them alive.

The magazines offer a lot of interesting information with interviews with cast and crew any a great look behind the scenes. Fans that discover the show now would otherwise never get a chance to read them as they are no longer available.

The official Lost Magazine collection on archive.org

Note: As you will also note, there are several black pages in the pdfs. This is intentional as they replace advertisements, backorder information and other material that is not relevant and therefore removed and replaced to keep the layout of the magazine intact.

The 11 "missing" issues in this collection could/should only be a temporary issue. The problem is that they are special magazines with more pages. They therefore have a bigger spine that make it impossible to scan the pages in an acceptable way without destroying the magazines permanently. If there is enough demand and support, I'll try to come up with a solution.

Disclaimer: I do not own the copyright to the official Lost Magazine. I have tried for several months to reach out multiple times to Titan Magazines, The Walt Disney Corp. and ABC Entertainment and people directly involved with the magazine in an attempt to ask for permission to share the copies of the magazines - I either never got a response or was told to ask somebody at another department as they could not help me. It was a fruitless endeavor.

The Magazines themselves have been out of print for several years. There is no option to purchase them digitally as well and any official website is long gone. It is therefore to infer that there are no commercial interests that are being harmed.

The release and sharing of the magazines in the Internet Archive is done with no commercial interest and solely serves the purpose of archiving and preserving historical documents for education.

No copyright infringement is intended. A takedown will follow immediately upon request.
