A list of puns related to "Molecular Biology"
The AY.122 version, which is mainly widespread in Russia, has already been identified in seven counties in Ukraine. According to the announcement, the researchers identified 12 different variants of the delta mutant in samples obtained from a public health center under the Ministry of Health in Ukraine.
And their spectrum is different from those that spread in the country in November.
The experts added. According to them, the delta AY.122 subvariant, which is currently actively spreading in Russia, has appeared as a new variant in Ukraine. This subvariant is more contagious than other variants of the delta and causes serious complications, in many cases leading to death, scientists said. It was also suggested that this sub-variant is responsible for the high mortality rate in Ukraine.

Im normally a deep in the back of the lab sort of labrat but the PI has decided I know more than him about certain subjects and it's time for me expand and to pass on my knowledge by running some courses in basic molbio.
I'm not fantastic at talking, but willing to give it a go anyway. Im trying to put together some slides. I need clip art for DNA, RNA, mRNA, tRNA, Taq polymerase, etc. just want to cover the bases (HA!)
anyone have any sources they wish to share?
Would it be more beneficial for me to go the PSM route if it allows me to continue working as a lab technician while Iβm getting my masters or would getting my Ms in molecular biology and not working be more beneficial? Long term, Iβm hoping obtaining my masters would help me gain higher up positions in the biotech industry when Iβm older. Iβm already an βoldβ student as I will be 32 when I graduate with my Bs, so Iβm sidelining the doctorate option due to the amount of time it will take me to graduate and enter the workforce.
I know admissions offices arenβt very transparent with invite/decision timelines, so I wanted to let yβall know. Just got a phone call from an admissions coordinator yesterday who asked me to come interview on campus in January! Super excited, and cheering for all of you this cycle.
Just did orientation and tweaked around my schedule for hours. What should I expect and should I worry about anything? Thanks!

I'm having a hard time with the overwhelming information in cell molecular biology. Sometimes, the information is there in my brain, but it is all scattered and I oftentimes mix up everything.
If you happen to know any Anki sets (flashcards) for molecular cell biology (preferrable using Alberts Molecular Cell biology as reference), I would greatly appreciate it!
Especially these chapters:
Chapter 15- Cell Signaling
Chapter 16- Cytoskeleton
Chapter 17- Cell Cycle
Chapter 19- Cell Junction and Extracellular Matrix
Chapter 20- Cancer
Thank you very much, and wishing everyone for a more productive year in 2022.
Hi! I got my BS Biology degree in UPLB and I currently work here in NCR. As I look through yung mga programs na pwede ko itake as masters, sila yung nag stand out sakin. Hindi ako makapili tbh. Ang research interest ko talaga kasi is cell physiology, pathways, enzymes, mga ganun. I also plan on being a prof. My only worry pag nag MS MBB ako sa Diliman is that I will take some undergrad courses pa unlike sa UPM na Biochem wala na need i take. Kaso di ko alam kung worth it ba na di magtake ng additional units in UPM kung mas maganda ang other program. What do you think guys? Anong meron sa isa na wala sa other one? Tsaka anong mga labs ang mas maganda?
Some say it is too difficult to be a good pre-med major. A lot have recommended Human Physiology. Of course, I will just stick with which I like more. But what is the general perception of majoring in BMB?
Hello! I applied to eight programs and have only gotten a rejection (from a program that I thought I had a shot at realistically). Now I am feeling very discouraged since I have no invites for interviews yet and most interviews start next week and I just feel really, really sad and confused about what to do
I've struggled since my first semester. Problems have included:
Many focus, organization and procrastination issues related to previously-undiagnosed ADHD and anxiety
Being cheated on and losing a 6-year-long relationship, followed by deep depression
Advisor's hands-off style at complete odds with my need for guided direction
The global pandemic interrupting and essentially stealing a year's worth of time; isolation
Trying to find medical professionals, psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, etc. who would accept me as a patient and could execute the right treatment with my insurance
Not being able to regain enthusiasm for research and not sticking with a project
Building myself back up emotionally while attending to my mental issues associated with my disorders
I just had my committee meeting which I had been utterly fearful of, knowing full-well I couldn't possibly present anything of real substance to them, and I was going to have to provide an explanation, and hope they would be semi-satisfied with a half-assed (but not really half-assed) start on a new project. The result: if I don't have an incredibly-improved spring semester, and my research doesn't hit its stride, I will be removed from the program. My department won't recuse me from my research duties, to instead just be a graduate teaching assistant, while I work on myself. I have to do all or none.
I want to do research. I've only ever had one plan in my life, to research epigenetic effects in humans. Since I was in high school. I don't know what else I would even try to do. And now I'm on the cusp of realizing that I do not have the ability to be a scientist, to be in my chosen profession.
I'm not looking for answers or solutions, because I know there really isn't a solution in that simplistic sense. I just needed to write put this out and be in my feelings, because I am scared now.
Iβm thinking of switching from BS molecular biology to bioinformatics but since Bioinformatics is a mix of comp. sci and bio I feel like I am running from hardest courses either have to offer such as organic chemistry or the hardest CS majors face (less knowledge of CS) so I wanted to maybe do a minor to strengthen one of the areas. What would be more useful? I also want to do a masters or PhD after in some kind of computational biology or double up on bioinformatics.
So i recently graduated in may with a degree in molecular and cell biology and i am currently working in a research lab at a university. My original plan was to apply to optometry school during this my gap year but i realised that i dont want to go to optometry school anymore. I am currently looking for an alternative for at least the next year because my current job contract ends in july and i am currently living at home and I reallly really want to move out around that time but i will need to have job secured by then. I was wondering what career/job options are out there for someone like me and i have alot research experience in terms of bench work. I am also open to learning new skills like coding or data analysis. I am only 21 so i am pretty open to anything as long as i have a decent salary, preferably $40-50K so that i can move out and live on my own.
Hope everyone is ready to enjoy Winter Break! I am thinking of replacing Calc 2 with Molecular Biology (310) this spring semester and was wondering 2 things: For the Bio major requirement, do I also need to take the lab? How difficult is Calc 2 at NOVA over the summer and how difficult is it to transfer credit?
Pretty much the title. Throughout a majority of my research career I've been fortunate enough to work with pre-cast PAGEs that we buy commercially. The few times I've had to try making my own during undergrad during a lab course it was always a disaster with something going wrong (leaky cast, gel no polymerizing properly, etc).
Now I'm finding myself in a position where I need to teach undergrads how to make gels themselves. So any tips and potential pitfalls to be wary of on how you guys get solid and consistent PAGEs would be greatly appreciated. Also welcoming to protocols because the one that's been used in the lab I TA for has been inconsistently tinkered with over the years. Thanks in advance!
Edit: If relevant, Iβm also using the BioRad system for setting up and running our SDS-PAGEs.
Anyone taking BIOS 21360 1 (Winter 2022)? I'm a second year finishing up the Advanced bio track. The class sounds super interesting but I'm cautious about the grading scheme for the write ups. I didn't do so well the first quarter of my second year and I am potentially looking at med school so I want to do well. Any perspectives? or if you've had Tao Pan or Jingyi Fei in any capacity.
How difficult is it to get into a Bsc in Molecular Biology? I am 33 years old and I want a career change and I truly believe biology is where I want to be at. I currently work in finance so no connection to health sciences, however I did take my high school diploma in Biology, Maths and some other irrelevant subjects, where I go an A. I also studied chemistry for 4 years during high school with an A grade overall. For someone in my situation, would it be impossible to change careers so late and get into a good bio program? Thanks!
Hello!
I'm a prospective Ph.D. student and I have questions regarding some professors in the BBMB department.
I'd be grateful if any current graduate/postgrad student would let me PM them and bug them with some questions! Let me know in the comments.
Thank you in advance and happy new years everyone!
Finally hear back from my first school out of 7 and got rejected starting to get worried. I thought Wisconsin was my safety !!!
Hi! I'm an applicant for SY 2022-2023 and I'm curious about this course. I am also currently a HUMSS student and I want some insight on what are the courses like subjects, tests, etc. Basically, I'm interested to know anything about it just to give me an idea about it. Hopefully, a current student enrolled in this course could respond to this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
My Dad's planning on becoming a Molecular Biology Specialist, but he hasn't had much luck in finding resources that could help him prepare for the exam. Most of what he finds seems to be geared towards aspiring technicians instead.
Could anyone point us to any resources (physical or otherwise) that he could use for studying? Thank you in advance.
Hello fellow rats. I have been given an offer for a job working in academia as a research assistant in a molecular lab. I did some research in under grad and worked in a medical lab after college. I was feeling stagnant working there so opened up to new opportunities.
I know this is dependent on the PI, lab, and even university, but what do research assistants do? What would my roles be?
Iβve already been given a general idea of what the roles will be (helping grad students, general lab upkeep), but worry I may be too inexperienced for the job. I also worry that my initial experience in research has tainted my few of the field (I had worked under a new PI who was a bit inexperienced in organizing a lab and helping their students, which caused extreme anxiety for me). I also worry I would be doing independent research, which does stress me out due to not having much research experience.
Anyone have any advice? I plan to talk to the PI more next week about the roles, but wanted to get more thoughts about this type of position before I continue in the hiring process.
Thank you.
How is the class? Iβm taking it with Bossy-Wetzel and I canβt find anything on how the class is. How challenging is it? Donβt really know much about it.
Hi! Did anyone here give the SMB exam? What resources did you use to study from? You would think ASCP would have some practice questions, but there is nothing on their website. Is mbascpconnect.com or study.com any good?
Anyone have experience with these classes? Kind of want to drop one but worried that they arenβt offered in Fall. Are Southwell/Hawthorne for PCB4843 the only professors, and Chakrabarti for PCB4135? And what is the expected rigor? Taking my MCAT through this semester so just a smidge stressed lol. Just need these for my neuro major :) thanks!
I'm starting a new phase of my PhD soon, and am feeling very under-prepared with respect to my general bacteriology knowledge. I was recommended to read up on basic bacterial genetics and molecular biology.
All the textbooks which I am familiar with from my past (Molecular Biology of the Cell etc,) rarely go in depth on the bacteria side of things. I really want a text which focusses solely on bacteria, and nothing else.
Hi! Currently writing SOPs for summer programs and I would appreciate any insight!
Hey /r/ucla!
I am super excited to be interviewing with Molecular Biology Interdepartmental Ph.D. Program starting on Monday next week, and since this is my top program Iβd like to do as well as possible on the interview.
What are your tips for doing well in the interview? What are the common pitfalls?
Also, I would love to hear about your general experience in the PhD program.
Thank you all!
Hi /r/biotech,
I am a PhD in the last 3 months of my PhD contract and am looking forward to advise to leave academia and join the industry, probably R&D-related or remote writing-related jobs.
In my PhD I did my research in different labs in EU, required by my grant. I had experience in LC-MS/MS in proteomics/metabolomics; in plasmid cloning, protein expression, purification and characterization; in general molecular biology assays e.g. flow cytometry, cell-based assay, PAGE, western etc. Due to covid lockdown and all the moving, I don't have high impact factor papers, just multiple small ones.
When I look for industry jobs a lot of them require minimum 2-3 years of experience in the field, but my PhD and all the moving makes me hard to sell my resume, as a candidate who knows everything a bit but master of none.
I wonder if you guys have any general advice, suggestion in any fast-growing biotech field with opportunities. Thanks in advance for your time.
Thinking of taking it as a GERPE. Does anyone have any feedback on this module? Are most students taking this module bio major students? Or is there also a good mix of people taking it as GERPE? Is it similar to H2 Bio? Or far harder?
I graduated in May 2021 with a BS in molecular biology (fortunately, thanks to my parents and a scholarship, without debt) and have since been working at a biology lab in the university I graduated from as a low level tech, doing mostly bench work (some mouse work, lots of immunofluorescence) and various assistance around the lab. My problem is that I haven't got a good idea of where I want to go with my life.
As a kid and through college my parents pressured me into going the med school route; it was always my default assumption that that was what I would do, and I only really started questioning it in junior year. Despite getting a 519 on the MCAT last year, I am near certain I don't want to go to medical school at this point. I hate rote memorization, I like having free time and sleep, and I lack the burning passion that drives people through med school. I'm fine with doing hard work, I'm not fine giving up every spare moment I'll have for the next seven years.
But removing said assumption means I simply don't know where to go. I've been considering every option available to me and I just don't know. I could get a PhD, I wouldn't mind doing the work for it, but job prospects for bio postdocs even in industry are dim, and in academia there's ten times as many PhDs as there are tenured professors. I could get an MPH, but what can I honestly do with one that isn't a dead end? I even considered an MS in biostatistics but I don't have much programming knowledge and I didn't take linear algebra, so that's not likely either. And I don't think I'll get very far with only my BS.
You see my problem. I've managed to convince myself that there is no good choice for me and I can't find a way out. The people around me aren't telling me what I can do that's best for me - only what I can do that's best for them, or what I can't do. So I don't know, maybe some strangers on Reddit can give me better advice. What should I do?
In most forums I see people talking about Molecular Bio I as useful for the MCAT but I never saw any information about Molecular Bio II. Is it important to know for the MCAT as well?
