A serious question from a muslim regarding the jewish dietary laws and its compatibility with the Islamic laws.

Hello all, a muslim here. As some of you might be aware, most muslims take the kosher certifications on foods, like the K, U with O, K parve, D, to be also halal or islamically permitted to eat. This comes from our understanding that food of the jews and christians that follows their own proper laws are allowed for us by God as said in the Qur'an:

"This day [all] good foods have been made lawful, and the food of those who were given the Scripture is lawful for you and your food is lawful for them." Quran 5:5

But the catch as i understand it is that these foods have to follow their own dietary laws. We see that most christians do not abide by it but jews do to a greater extant. There has been some discussion about this at /r/islam So my question is to someone here who has a good grasp of the jewish dietary laws and the scripture as what jewish certifications could be actually compatible with the halal dietary laws which are as follows:

  1. Any intoxicating alcohols, liquors, wines and drugs are not halal. Hence foods that contain them.
  2. Pork, Dog meats are forbidden to be eaten, hence their derivatives and foods added with these.
  3. All animal meat have to be slaughtered while pronouncing the name of God over it, called zabihah. Other meats are not halal.

These are the basics and I could be missing something. But the idea is to get a general understanding of the possible differences/incompatibility between our laws.

Any helpful response is appreciated. May God reward you for your efforts and guide us all to the straight path.

Biden will lift sanctions on Taliban if they respect women's rights and don't implement Islamic law

The Biden administration wants to use carrots (like sanctions relief) to persuade the Taliban to not implement Islamic law. Trump committed the US to start the process of removing sanctions, but Biden will now use the threat of sanctions as leverage over the Taliban after the US withdrawal in an effort to safeguard women's rights.

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/23/us/politics/biden-afghanistan-taliban.html?smid=tw-share

> In the long term, there is almost no doubt that the Taliban will either become part of the Afghan government or take over the country entirely. How the United States will respond is unclear.

> In a paper published last month by the United States Institute of Peace, before Mr. Biden’s announcement, Mr. Rubin contended that America “has overestimated the role of military pressure or presence and underestimated the leverage that the Taliban’s quest for sanctions relief, recognition and international assistance provides.”

> Mr. Rubin added that the agreement Taliban leaders signed with the Trump administration in February 2020 committed Washington to beginning the process of removing U.S. and United Nations sanctions on the group, including some that are targeted at its individual leaders. It also featured a guarantee that the United States “will seek economic cooperation for reconstruction with the new post-settlement Afghan Islamic government.”

What would Jewish dietary laws have to say about lab-grown meat?

Just saw an article on r/futurology about lab-grown shrimp and one of the first things my mind went to was if they'd be kosher or not since they're not technically the animal (but on the other hand there's the commandment about avoiding the appearance of wrongdoing but on the other hand avoiding the appearance of breaking the dietary laws would mean already-existing meat-substitute versions of things like bacon are automatically treyf and it breaks the kosher laws if I have a "chick'n" burger and almond milk at the same meal)

Proposed law in U.S. would make CBD a dietary supplement

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 39%. (I'm a bot)

> The measure, the Hemp and Hemp-Derived CBD Consumer Protection and Market Stabilization Act of 2021, would direct the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to set a clear regulatory framework for hemp and hemp-derived CBD products that would protect consumers while addressing critical supply chain issues for producers.

> The proposed law would address a situation in which a plethora of hemp and CBD products are available in the U.S. market in the absence of an FDA approval system.

> Under the proposal language in the draft bill, "Hemp, cannabidiol derived from hemp, and any other ingredient derived from hemp shall be lawful for use under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act as a dietary ingredient in a dietary supplement."

> If enacted, the law would allow hemp and hemp derived CBD to be marketed in dietary supplements under new ingredient requirements and other policies for dietary supplements under the Food and Drug Act, including the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994.

> Stakeholders have repeatedly complained about the slow pace of progress on hemp at the FDA. "There remains an absence of substantive progress on FDA's reported attention to creating a lawful pathway for CBD, and a similar lack of clarification from the agency that simple hemp products, such as tinctures and extracts, should be regulated the same as other herbal supplements," said Michael McGuffin, president of the American Herbal Products Association.

> Some companies selling CBD and other hemp extracts have encountered FDA enforcement actions, suffering stop-sale orders, fines, and product seizures.

Islamic shariya law ??? Like wtffff 🤬😡🤬😡

I just got to know that the inheritance rules of the country are made according to this so called " Islamic shariya law " .

Means if you don't have a BOY son ( which is a blessing ofc acc to Islam and boys have a degree over girls) then the daughters can not inherit all the property. Some of the shares in inheritance go to the relatives. Like wtfff

If this actually how it's working then why the hell those evil relatives get a free share 🤬😡🤬😡 I'm pissed.

How Did Catholic Colonists In The Americas Reconcile Catholic Dietary Laws With The New/Limited Foodstuffs Available?

Did colonists just not observe fast days, or observe them sporadically? If the wine ran out for mass, did they use substitutes? Were local priests authorized to say that "yes, for purposes of fasting, the beaver counts as a fish" or did that decision have to be made by some higher ecclesiastical authority? Did colonists have trouble reconciling these laws with the realities they faced?

Does your family intend to follow Islamic inheritance law?

Over the last year or so because of Covid many of my older relatives have started to get their wills in place. What I found quite interesting is that nobody in my family seems to be following the Islamic stipulations and they are all giving their daughters and sons equal shares, despite most of them being very devoted Ahmadi Muslims. To me it suggests that perhaps even very devout people in my family feel deep down that these rules are outdated and unfair, otherwise why wouldn’t they follow them in practice? Curious to hear whether my family is unique in this respect or whether others are also thinking along the same lines.

Edited for clarity

[serious] Do Islamic inheritance laws acknowledge the existence of intersex people?

Intersex persons are persons with biological characteristics that don’t fit the traditional dichotomy of male/female. For instance, someone with Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome is chromosomally XY. However, their androgen (like testosterone) receptors don’t work, which means their bodies never develop as male. They tend to live their lives as women, often only finding out about their condition when undergoing fertility treatments. Persons born with ambiguous or dual genitalia can also identify as intersex. Please use Arabic (untranslated) sources, I can read and understand them and I'd rather not go through the hassle.

A fatwā is a non-binding legal opinion issued by an Islamic scholar under Islamic law; it is, therefore commonplace for fatāwā from different authors to disagree

The popular misconception that the word means a death sentence probably stems from the fatwā issued by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini of Iran in 1989 regarding the author Salman Rushdie, who he stated had earned a death sentence for blasphemy. This event led to fatāwā gaining widespread media attention in the West.

A “good” fatwa

Why was India split into two countries and a separate country was created for Muslims in 1947 when Muslims of current India follow Muslim personal laws, triple talaq, and all the non secular Islamic laws? What was the point?

I honestly cannot comprehend the logic behind creating a separate country for Muslims.

The satanic verses book was banned in a secular country because it offended Muslims. I sometimes think Hindus are pseudo majority and the country is run by our minority religion.

What kinda secular country lets a Muslim guy have four wives while the majority religion gets new updated laws that curtails him to only one wife?

In an ideal world this scenario would have happened

  • sub continent splits into two countries.

  • Pakistan becomes Islamic nation

  • India become real secular country - no religion bullcrap, all citizens come under uniform civil code.

İslam hukukunda hirabe (eşkiyalık) suçu. Hirabah (Brigandage) Crime in Islamic Law Abstract
