A list of puns related to "Interim Championship"
Would you buy this card? Similar to the Charloβs last PPV. Letβs talk about it!
'NXT General Manager William Regal announced this past Wednesday on WWEβs The Bump that an Interim NXT Cruiserweight Champion will be crowned, as titleholder Jordan Devlin is unable to defend his championship due to current circumstances.
Now, the format for that tournament has been revealed. WWE.com has confirmed the following:
-Eight Superstars will be split into two groups of four.
-Superstars will compete against each of the three other members of their group.
-The Superstar with the best record in each group will advance to the championship match.
-Any ties will be broken by head-to-head record.
-The winner of Group A will face the winner of Group B to determine the new Interim NXT Cruiserweight Champion.'
So basically, 205 Live version of Best of the Super Juniors. Brackets will be revealed tomorrow. This is gonna rule ass.
I mean I just checked the official Twitter accounts of both WWE and NXT and all I see is them mentioning that the tournament is for the NXT Cruiserweight Championship and no reference about it being an Interim Championship.
I don't remember them mentioning the Interim Championship being a thing on the NXT broadcast aswell, or did I miss it ?
It's worth noting that Jordan Devlin is still mentioned as the Cruiserweight Champion on WWE.com
Obviously, with the COVID situation spreading to AEW, the most important thing right now is the health of the talent. That being said, there's a non-zero possibility that Mox may not return to competition for a bit. If it's as short as a couple of weeks, Cody could defend his TNT title against Cage to provide a marquee event for part 2.
However, if Mox could potentially be out longer, AEW may need to crown an Interim Champion. I feel like some viable contenders for Cage are:
MJF - While his ranking makes sense for him as the next contender, any interactions would be between him and Tazz, relegating Cage to the background in any future feud.
The winner of Janela vs. Archer - Cage vs. Archer would be a pretty fantastic knock-down, drag out fight, which would bring back memories of Lucha Underground for Cage. Janela would try to wrestle the same match, only with a lot more bumping.
Brodie Lee - Not very likely, especially with the Dark Order's current gathering of wayward souls storyline.
Kenny Omega - Why not? You've got the Best Bout Machine, put him to work.
The winner of Jericho vs. Cassidy - Jericho in a main event for the World title adds legitimacy to the match regardless of who won, and Cage flattening Cassidy without letting him do any of his comedy work would cement him as a monster heel while he awaits Moxley.
Scorpio Sky - Not likely, as SCU are tangled up with the Dark Order, but he's already being set up for eventual World title contention, and this will continue to build that story.
Cody - Imagine it like this. Cody comes out and cuts a promo about the times we live in, and remarks on the need for an Interim champion until Mox returns, then suspends his rule to compete for the AEW title for Fyter Fest. Cage winning adds legitimacy to his reign by starting off beating one of AEW's top talents. If Cody wins, he refuses to be recognized as champion, insisting that he's going to forfeit the title to Mox. Mox returns, and Cody tries to hand him the belt, only for Mox to insist on a fight, after which Cody cheats to win, beginning his heel reign.
Peter Avalon - Come on, tell me you wouldn't be invested in this match.
I mean if God Forbids Moxley gets infected and is unable to compete at Fyterfest, AEW should take the UFC approach and have the Interim World title match replace the title match in case the champion is unavailable, like you certainly need the World title match to mainevent the Night 2 of Fyterfest
With MJF being the top ranked singles wrestler, he should face Brian Cage instead and win the Interim Championship with some shenanigans, this would lead to the already reported MJF vs Mox at All Out ( now a title unification Bout instead) , where Mox can beat MJF to continue his reign.
Plus this would create an amazing arch for MJF, Where he would claim to be a former AEW World Champion but no one would acknowledge that
And maybe this match lead to Wardlow vs Brian Cage at All Out.
Prayers for Moxley and Renee β€

As the title says, who gonna win, weβve already started off surprising with Tozawa beating Swerve and I expect more to come, who do you think will win each block
A block -Kushida, Jake Atlas, Drake Maverick and Tony Nese
B block -El Hijo Del Fantasma, Isaiah βSwerveβ Scott, Akira Tozawa and Jack Gallagher
Currently thereβs the likely Kushida vs Fantasma, but Trippie H ainβt known for being predictable, I could see almost anyone winning this except for Drake Maverick and Jake Atlas, as Atlas is pretty new and sadly Maverick was released.
Since Brock never defends, take a page out of the UFC's book. Makes it feel far more legit plus we have a champ for the next few months, then they can unify it for a bigger Undisputed Universal Championship on a big PPV. I know UFC purists hate all the interim belts ATM, but I feel it fits here.
Trying to understand the difference/definitions of the two championship types, I used the Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier rivalry as a example - to get this warped around my head:
Jon was stripped of the LHW title in 2015, making it vacant for the first two contenders to fight for the championship at the time, right? But, Jon was stripped; not losing it to an opponent, right?
Later on, Daniel won the vacant LHW championship, though he never 'beat' Jon for the championship, thus making him the current LHW champion without beating the former champion in a title bout (because the division needs to have a champion regardless), right?
A year or so after Jon's suspension he went to face OSP for the 'Interim' championship (which I'm assuming is to earn an opportunity to have a title bout with the current champion at that time, Daniel), as he still never lost in a title bout, right?
Two years later after Daniel beat multiple opponents, he finally faced Jon (as from what I understood Jon was the 'Interim' champion since he never lost the title and won an opportunity/becoming no. 1 contender) for the second time for the LHW championship, and as he beat Daniel for the championship which he never lost in a fight, thus becoming 'Undisputed' (which I guess the definition is a champion who hasn't won the title for the second time or more, but rather winning their championship back that they've never lost in a match - legally) LHW champion, right?
Thanks for reading and addressing my understanding of my situation here. I hope I wasn't confusing you all with the too many questions...
Instead of vacating titles, they should introduce an interim championship and have competitors fight for that while the real champion is gone. When the real champion returns, have both title holders have a unification match.
This would be better than vacating the title, in my opinion.
Change my view.
EDIT: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interim_championship
> An interim championship is an alternate championship that is awarded in the four major sanctioning bodies of professional boxing (WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF), and in other combat sports, such as kickboxing, and mixed martial arts.
>Occasionally, the champion of a particular weight division is temporarily unable to defend his championship because of medical, legal, or other reasons that are beyond the competitor's control. When this case occurs, two highly ranked contenders may fight for an interim championship of the same weight division β leading to two champions existing in the same weight division simultaneously. Once the original champion is able to return, he must fight against the interim champion in a "unification bout." The winner of this contest is then deemed the "undisputed champion." If the original champion cannot return, or transfers to a different weight division, the interim champion becomes the undisputed champion.
I really think the UFC will do it. Even though it's not the same situation as Aldo (RDA is pretty active), I still think Conor will demand the interim title.
They can't really keep Conor in the main event unless hardware is on the line either, since Holm vs Tate is a title fight.
A thought just came to me while reading an article on MMANewsline about how Khabib and Ferguson may fight for a interim belt in a couple of months. I want to know whether it is the intention of the author to say interim belt of if it is just a No.1 contender fight.
The reason this irks me is that Conor is the undisputed champion and if it the fight is for an interim belt then he is no longer undisputed. How is that fair? Interim belts are for long layoffs, not to create headline fights and award a strap when there is a clear champion in the division.
If the author meant Interim belt then the UFC needs to market the fights better to make it known that the winner will fight Conor without a belt being handed out. If the author got it wrong then they probably need to get a better understanding of the purpose of an Interim belt.
So was just watching the weigh ins and noticed that DC was introduced as the Undisputed Champion. Does this mean that Jon Jones is no longer the interim champion or does he continue to be called the o term champion. Just wondering if there has been any announcement made that I may have missed or if anyone has an opinion of what they think should happen to the interim title.
