Some more interesting facts on HMS Victory, the flagship of Nelson's namesake Viscount Horatio Nelson at Trafalgar, relating not only to Nelson but also to Hood and Belfast
Sources
Facts
-
Aside from being Nelson's flagship at Trafalgar, she was also the flagship of Hood's namesake Lord Samuel Hood during two stints in 1790-91 and 1793-94.
-
It is the very first ship that Great Britain saved and preserved for historical purposes, with Belfast being the next. In a further parallel, Belfast was opened as a museum ship to the public in her current real-life location in the Pool of London on Trafalgar Day in 1971 (the 166th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar).
-
4 event spaces on the ship. However, despite a promotional image indicating otherwise, the ship is currently not available for wedding hire (at least not the ceremony). Does make one wonder about if a commander would oath Nelson or Hood onboard like we have previously had reported on this sub with Belfast via /u/Edruro and North Carolina via /u/Typical_Jack, though!
-
Despite the ship being merely in dry dock since 1922 in Portsmouth, various admirals have still raised their flag there, and even since the dry dock, the officer whose flag flies above the ship is a knight who ranks no lower than Vice Admiral. Adding to that, she has also been the flagship of the United Kingdom's First Sea Lord and Chief of the Naval Staff since 2012 (currently Admiral Sir Tony Radakin since June 2019). Could you imagine what it'd be like if a commander raised a personal or AL Royal Navy flag over the Nelson?

Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson vs Admiral Yi Sun-Sin
Two legends of maritime warfare battle it out for naval supremacy.
Vice-Admiral Horation Nelson: Born to a prosperous Norfolk family in 1758, he was known for his prowess in naval strategy and for inspiring his men with his courage and charisma. When hearing of his death, King George III cried while saying "We have lost more than we have gained".
Admiral Yi Sun-sin: One of Korea's greatest military heroes, Admiral Yi was undefeated at sea despite having no formal naval training. Due to his naval prowess and the jealousy of his peers, he was imprisoned and almost executed but was loved by the people for the respect he paid his men and their families.
Rules:
Nelson has the fleet used during the Battle of Trafalgar, Yi Sun-sin has the fleet used during the Battle of Sacheon (with two more Geobukseon).
Battle takes place in the same place as the Battle of Trafalgar. Both have knowledge of the area and conditions, they know of each other's reputations as naval commanders and both have a month to plan and prepare for the battle.
Victory is achieved through either surrender or complete annhililation of the other side, the battle doesn't end just because Nelson or Yi are killed.

What made Horatio Nelson such an incredible admiral?
Hi all!! Just finished a recent rewatch of Master and Commander and Iβve been playing the game Ultimate Admiral: Age of Sail, so my Horatio Nelson fascination is again at its most extreme.
But; why was he so incredibly talented? I donβt mean any disrespect whatsoever, itβs clear he is among the best admirals to have ever lived no doubt, but what skills or traits set him aside from other great admirals of the time?
Bonus points for any suggested reading on Nelson/his life and career/Age of Sail life and combat.
