A list of puns related to "Albany"
Donβt get me wrong. Albany is a great city and has a lot going for it, but at the same time I feel like it is lacking so much when you compare it other cities of the same caliber.

No, we do not have any COVID test kits.
Yes, really.
No, we do not have any that might be in the back room.
No, we aren't secretly hoarding them for employee use. I have to buy my rapid test kits the same as you, when we have them in stock, and I am subject to the same limitations you are.
Yes, I have ordered more. Orders don't mean anything when our warehouses can't keep up with the demand.
No, they will not be here before tomorrow.
Yes, I am aware you've looked everywhere.
No, I do not know if the other stores have them. You will have to call them and find out.
Yes, I am aware that this means you might not be able to see your family/friends safely.
No, you will not be able to get a free PCR test and have lab results before Christmas.
No, I cannot make the lab results from a few days ago come any quicker. If you need those for travel reasons, you are out of luck and will have to take the rapid test the airport offers.
I am a human being the same as you are. I understand your struggles, but stop taking it out on me and my employees who have to report this to dozens of people a day.
And I know not everyone who needs to see this will, but if people here could inform parents/grandparents/anyone else, I would deeply appreciate it.
Iβm a first time Mom and currently 18 weeks pregnant. Our little girl is due June 10. My OB delivers at Bellevue, and originally I was planning on going there. However, during my last appointment, the nurse said that the OB was thinking I should deliver at Albany Med instead.
The reason is because I have a history of mental illness (bipolar, depression, anxiety, OCD) and am on mood stabilizers/meds. Bellevue doesnβt have a psychiatric unit, but Albany Med does. They said theyβd rather be safe than sorry so the baby and I donβt get separated if something does happen and I need to be admitted. Now, my mental illnesses are definitely under control right now, it was tough at the beginning because I had to change meds, but itβs under control.
Iβm more concerned about whatβs a better option for the baby. Is Albany Med or Bellevue the better place for childbirth?
Side question- if anyone has any good pediatricians, drop their names too?
Thank you all! Stay warm!
Albany County will be working with Stewartβs to distribute free rapid COVID tests at a few locations in rural areas. Unfortunately I donβt have specific details regarding the dates and time of distribution but it should be today or tomorrow. The locations are as follows:
2475 Delaware Tpke, Voorheesville 1001 Altamont Blvd, Altamont 788 Helderberg Trl, East Berne 2457 Rt 9W, Ravena 1344 Rt 9W, Selkirk 1360 Indian Fields Rd (SR 32), Feura Bush
If I get more info Iβll post it.
Target, Amazon, Shoprite, Hannaford, Walmart etc are hiring at $15/hour. Heck even banks, CDTA, UPS, Amtrak are hiring . Whatβs it actually like ? Looking for personal experiences here.
Just saw this article that lists Albany as one of the cities Verizon will expand their 5g home internet to in less than 2 weeks from now. Good riddance spectrum!!! And I hope they actually do come to downtown and lark street area!

Hi, folks! Hoping you guys can give me some vacation thoughts.
My boyfriend is looking to move out of Michigan, and Iβm bidding pretty hard for Albany, since itβs where I live and I love it here. However, heβs fairly convinced this city/area is too small and generally uncultured. (It doesnβt help that he visited the day after Christmas, so itβs not like anything was open to show him besides like, fast food restaurants.)
However, for his next visit Iβd like to take him to some cool places, because even if weβre not some super-hip college town, I really do love it here and think itβs a great place. The only problem isβ¦β¦β¦I donβt go anywhere. Or do anything. I know of maybe 3 restaurants, 2 museums, and 1 park. Which will not give my (slightly snobby β€οΈ) boyfriend the best cultural experience. Iβve lived here my whole life and sadly I havenβt gone anywhere or done much of anything; Iβm a homebody of the worst sort!
Do you guys have recommendations? Iβm thinking cool stores to visit, streets to walk around in, authentic local and/or hipstery places to eat, and things to do?
Thank you!
What a mess out there today on the roads. And there was barely 1/4 inch!
Like, we get together once a month and take turns selecting, cooking, and (this is the tough part) actually trying things like "ham and bananas hollandaise" etc?
Hi there. I'd love to meet new people who are polyamorous and have fun conversations. If you're local, even better. I am looking for safe, sane and good vibes. If you have any questions, or are interested in getting to know me, send me a message. Thank you!!
Do you like living in Albany? If so, why?
I ask because I moved here and I've enjoyed it so far. But every time my family visits, they always say negative things about it. I want to see others opinions on it
Edit: Local 217 wings are awesome
I want to move back to upstate NY after the army, but somewhere metropolitan because the rest of upstate is desolate and people are fleeing the economic wasteland that is upstate NY. Is it even worth going back to? I want to raise a family with my wife but I don't want to raise kids in a state that has no future. Sorry for the doom and gloom, but I have to ask the question bluntly.
Edit: I'm a medic in the army and I'm close to finishing my bachelor's of natural sciences from excelsior college. I plan on going into healthcare ( PA,RN, respiratory therapy, etc)
Here it is boys and girls, the moment you've all had marked on your Nickleback calendars for the past 11 months or so! The r/Albany snowfall prediction thread! Personally, it's one of the only things that gets me through the year besides the "whose nipples could cut glass because you haven't turned your heat on" thread.
The rules are pretty simple:
Winner gets... uhhh... I guess I'll buy you a pint at Ted's or something? Or if drinkin' ain't your thing I guess just a laurel and hearty handshake? Good luck!
My wife and I live in NJ, and we are looking to relocate to a neighboring state with lower cost of living. I know NY taxes are just as bad as NJ, but it seems real estate prices are considerably lower. We are looking to buy our first home, and sadly we are being priced out of NJ. In NJ, you are looking at at least 300k to get a single family house that isn't falling apart or in a bad area.
I work remotely and can live anywhere. My wife works in healthcare, so we would plan to move to an area with a large hospital nearby.
We are considering the Albany area because of the large healthcare presence, and it seems to have the large variety of amenities we are used to in NJ (stuff like Whole Foods, Trader Joes, etc.).
Also to a lesser extent considering the Glens Falls area, due to the proximity to outdoor recreation like the Adirondacks, Lake George, etc., and the large hospital in town.
The area seems to have potential for us, but I am really worried about the winters. We are not big fans of the cold weather, and it sucks bad enough dealing with NJ winters where low temps rarely drop below the 20s, and daytime temps are usually above freezing in the 30s-40s all winter. We also only get about 25 inches of snow a year compared to the 50-60 inches the capital region seems to get on average.
Are we insane for considering a move to either Albany or Glens Falls if we are generally not winter people? Some people make upstate NY sound like Siberia, while others seem to say it's not that bad. I am hoping that winter recreation options that would be new to us like skiing, snowmobiling, etc. might make up for having to endure the longer, colder winters.
I just moved here in 2019, so havenβt had much chance to figure out who throws the best party yet.
Iβm triple vaccinated and will double mask, and am able to voluntarily quarantine for 5 days afterwards (work from home) before testing, to avoid spreading covid.
Edit: For those of you suggesting I'm not following the rules, the CDC, the law in NY, and other epidemiologists who are familiar with the research, have stated that we have permission to go out in public if we are fully vaccinated and/or masked, so knock off the shaming. You scolds are the ones not listening to the experts.
Hello all! I'm thinking of applying to a law school in Albany and wondering if Albany still has the "New York" vibe or is it more small town-ish? I'm looking for overall an idea of what to expect in Albany, New York? Is there a good job market? Are there interesting things to do? such as museums, forest hiking trails, ect.. Thank you for your replies.

Pretty upset about this personally, it's a big holiday type day in school for the kids and it's canceled because the poorly managed outsourced bus company let all their staff go during the virtual year. Just one of MANY critical issues I have seen personally with the private buses. And it's a total crock that the school district thinks they can just call a virtual day whenever they have an issue, the impacts of doing that are much more than just "the kids learn remotely for a day".
