A list of puns related to "Bloomington"
I would start a distillery for high end spirits made from local grain and farms!
I know everyone is complaining about this but it's actually scary right now in a way. I took over a sublease and I need to get out of it because I won't be able to afford it with student loans coming back eventually. Most places I can find that have what I would like are above $1000 a month and shoeboxes. Those that aren't have terrible reviews. Any apartments in the area that y'all would recommend? I commute to Spencer, have one cat, would like to have a washer and dryer in the unit, and air conditioning if possible.
The article posts the actual order of the court. It is worth a read if you've been following the story. Mostly, SCF isn't a legal entity that can sue (it isn't an independent LLC that exsists independently of its sole proprietorship owners), and none of the constitutional claims that were raised are actually constitutional claims.
And what don't you love and could use some improving? Please be constructive.
I've seen a lot of folks from out of town looking to move to the area (I am relatively new to the area as well) and I thought it'd be great to share some of what we like for people to reference or check out.
Share restaurants, parks, entertainment...a wish list, etc...
I'll start - I love the energy and sense of community Bloomington-Normal offers. Everyone is so welcoming and warm. It's contagious and is reflective in the innovation and development happening in the area.
Alright guys, it's that time of year again. The time of year that everyone makes their lists of "the best things of 2021". Let's hear what we have to say about bloomington's restaurants! I'm looking for the best dining experience that you've had for this entire year. I will count the amount of mentions each restaurant has and post the winner in about a day or so!
Look at the radar right now. The snow coming down appears to be lake effect coming off lake michigan. Ive only seen lake effect this far south one other time several years ago but it was only in columbus and eastern brown county. Never bloomington! I knew it was lake effect because of how off and on it is and how it was snowing this afternoon with sunny skies. I thought, this has to be lake effect! i could be wrong but look at the radar. theres a continuous band of snow from lake michigan and no snow in illinois or ohio really. this is rare!
Hey y'all. I'm a Louisianian here, and I am possibly relocating to Indiana this coming August for a 5-year biomedical Ph.D. program with Indiana University. The program is offered identically in both Bloomington and Indianapolis, so I'm trying to choose between the two programs just based on the city.
Do you currently or have you lived in or near Bloomington? What do you like and dislike about the city? What does Bloomington have that Indianapolis lacks, and what does Bloomington lack that Indianapolis has? If you've lived in both cities, which did you prefer?
Here's some info about me, if this is helpful for making a recommendation to me.

The tool is constantly updated IF you do not find enough jobs when you write "Bloomington", use the title filter and write "remote" there are A LOT of remote jobs and the location attribute is removed sometimes (or is not entered at all) when they are marked as remote
Lookin to get my ramen on. What's the best place in town?
Or - what dried ramen do you all think is the best? And where is it available?
Went to Subway this week and when I was checking out, the machine prompted me for a tip. Before I pressed it, the cashier said, "Don't worry about that." I said why, and they said the tips given through card payments and online orders only go to the managers. The in-store employees split the paper tips. They mentioned it is the same for all the stores around here.
Maybe I'm alone in this, but that doesn't sit right with me.
For those interested in the issue of homelessness in Bloomington: There is a great article in the Herald Times today in the "my favorite ride" section. It's about Heather Lake and her work to help the homeless. And in case you wish to help her with her work, there is information in that article about how to do so.
hey everyone,
my boyfriend and i have been long distance for awhile and this year for valentineβs day iβd love to send him a small gift basket of stuff that is local to bloomington/indiana. if you guys donβt mind helping out, iβd appreciate if anyone had any suggestions! any small item/food you love thatβs locally made, or any shops that sell mostly local stuff would be awesome. iβm already planning on getting him some nickβs hot sauce and some locally grown coffee
thank you!
Ok so as a student do I get access to any free therapy? I'm not suicidal or something but I'm sure I've been depressed for a while and some therapy would be really nice for my mental health. So if we do have access to any such services on campus how is it? And if not is there any good therapist in town? And would my student health insurance cover it?
The shuttle service was discontinued in Spring 2020 due to COVID. Regrettably, IU has decided to eliminate it completely. This is interesting, since the service wasn't even free for students and faculty. It cost $12 each way. But still, it's a fair price for the convenience of a shuttle service from and to each of the campuses. With the new highway, driving time should be even shorter, and having this service would make life much easier for commuters. Is anybody from either campus interested in restarting this service? I'm thinking about sending a petition for the service to be reintroduced.
Considering a courthouse wedding in the near future. Anyone who has gotten married at the courthouse, would you be willing to share what the process was like? And can you opt out of your license being filed electronically so it is not included in the online search database? I find that feature creepy.
Hi everyone! So gf and I are considering a move to Bloomington-Normal to be closer to family (Decatur-area) from Madison, WI. We love Madison but weβre at the stage where weβd like to buy a home, and a house weβd like in Bloomington is easily $450K+ in Madison and like 150-200 in Bloomington.
What we love most about Madison is:
-food options (Chinese & Mexican cuisine is lackluster, but Thai, Vietnamese, etc is amazing).
-easy access to needs (grocery stores, doctors, dentists, Target, malls, all within a 10 minute drive)
-Super safe for its size
Amazing cycling & outdoors activities
not conservative (my hometown is hardcore trump country and Iβd like to avoid that atmosphere)
strong economy
What we donβt like:
So, with that saidβwhat about Bloomington? Would it be a culture shock? Would we miss out on what we like? Should we consider Champaign or Springfield instead?
Thanks!
Long shot, perhaps, but worth a try:
The short version of this post: I'm looking for someone to teach me how to sew my own clothing. I can't really offer $$$ (I know - lame), but would happily trade some sort of good or service.
Longer version: I'm a relatively new quilter (sewn about 5 quilts) who is interested in moving into making my own clothing. I have a basic sewing machine and an almost brand new serger I've not yet messed with. While I know there are online courses and lots of YouTube content, I respond best to in person training. Recognizing that there is a pretty nasty pandemic right now, happy to do some introductory lessons on Zoom if that helps. Also, I am fully vaxxed and boosted; happy to meet face-to-face according to my mentor's comfort level.
If you own a sewing shop/business, I'll happily work for free doing whatever - sweeping floors, cleaning the bathroom, or actual sewing stuff. It seems to me the logical place to start would be with alterations of men's clothing, then move on from there. While I do have a mentor lined up, we won't be able to meet face-to-face for some time, so hoping to get a head start.
No need to reply to this post; just DM if if this interests you.
Thanks in advance!
I know, I know, it gets brought up every other day. But today I was almost sideswiped twice (in nearly identical situations) and then aggressively honked at for seemingly no reason?
I was waiting at a stoplight, in the lane to go straight (or turn right, but I was going straight). There was a car in the left turn lane. You know, the turn left only lane that is standard at 99% of intersections. Intuition aside, both lanes were clearly labeled. Light turned green. They just... went straight. I had to pull back to not get hit. BOTH TIMES.
Next, I turned on my right blinker, slowed, turned. I got honked at. And it wasn't a quick honk, it was a long drawn out honk. What am I supposed to do with that? Apparate into the parking lot, I guess?
Happy holidays. Drive safe everyone.
Howdy.
I'm Dave.
I know next to nothing about Illinois except that Chicago is awesome. Yet, I'm moving to a town roughly 1% the size of any city I've ever lived in - Bloomington/Normal Illinois. Fortunately its only for a year, and then I'll transfer back to life in a thriving metropolis. I realize this post contains searing ignorance about the state and for that I apologize. I've only driven through Illinois.. and think of it being flat and relatively uninteresting (such to the point I don't actually remember driving through it.)
Ultimately I'm seeking an open, kitchen table MFF polycule - It's where I'm at my best, and happiest.
Is there even a poly community in Illinois outside of Chicago? Or should I just buy a Amtrak pass and plan to spend every weekend in Chi-Town?
So all that aside -
I'm Dave, I'm 44 - love the outdoors, and I'm a nerd at heart. I live to travel, and have been all over the world. I spent a year in Antarctica - mostly for the story (but also the money) I've solo traveled about 40ish countries - I'm a fantastic cook and love to cook for others. I throw epic parties, and can work a room with the best of them but deep down I'm an introvert and need to escape to the ol' man cave and watch re-runs of British murder mysteries.
I'm originally from Texas - but from Austin (which is what Texas could be if they stopped with all the religious reich nonsense.) and from San Antonio (which is basically northern Mexico)
On the nerd side, I love table top games, whether they're role-playing, or traditional games like Catan, or Dominion or what-have-you.(This is another thing I'm fearful of for Bloomington - Is there a gaming community?)
Here's a bunch of photos - Sorry no penises.
Thanks for your time in reading.
Hi friends. I'm looking to get away for a week and doing a little road trip. I was thinking either Peoria or B/N are an easy drive. There are some AirBnBs in the middle of both, but I'd rather stay in town so I can walk around and explore rather than driving 20-30 minutes each time I want to go out. I like college towns: fun bars with cheap drinks, larger variety of cuisines, more entertainment options. Wife, infant, and I would probably stay a week in January, so family friendly places are also good.
First and foremost, BREWERIES. Wife and I love craft beer, and I see there are a few in each city. So who has the edge? Distilleries and wineries are also a plus.
We like hiking. I know it'll be winter but the cold doesn't bother me if I'm hiking. I like that Peoria is on the river with hills and bluffs, so that might have more hiking options (?)
Does one city have more varieties of ethnic restaurants? Wife is dairy-free, so vegan options are always good. Also, I love fried chicken so if there's an absolute banger, I'll need to know about it.
It seems like from my searching on IL subs, most people seem to say Bloomington/Normal is the nicer of the two. Thoughts?
Thank y'all!
