After noticing that my RTX 3080's memory was running very hot, very fast (100+ degrees regularly), I decided to attempt my first GPU 'mod', if you can even call it that. I just wanted to note this down here for anyone with the same issue (as there was fairly little documentation to be found on this subject).
The specific card in question, the Gigabyte RTX 3080 gaming oc The gigabyte RTX 3080 gaming oc
After opening the card, I found that the thermal pads were very oily after just a few months, and the thermal paste was fairly degraded already. The original paste and thermal pads Closeup of original thermal pads Closeup of original paste
Opening it up further, there were no thermal pads that could conduct heat towards the back plate. As you can see, no thermal pads for the back plate
I decided to replace all of the original pads and paste. I used Thermalright pads, both the 1mm and 2mm thick versions for the front of the card (measuring each original pad before replacing it). For the paste I used MX-4. After replacing the original pads and paste Closeup of new pads on the front
I also added 3mm thick Thermalright pads on the back of the card, in line with the positioning of the memory modules. New pads on the back Another angle
After closing everything back up, the card is about 5ish degrees cooler in general, but mainly my memory temps rarely exceed above 80 degrees in heavy workloads. Not saying that everyone should do this, but I'm honestly very happy about having gone through this process! I just wanted to document it here for anyone interested. If you have any questions, feel free!
Just thought I'd create this post in case anyone else happens to encounter the same issue I did. Given the monitor is very recent, I couldn't find anyone else having the problem with this specific model online.
I attempted to connect my RTX 30 series card via HDMI 2.1 and was getting very inconsistent results. Whenever I booted to Windows, sometimes I'd receive a video signal, then other times I'd get nothing (blank screen). However, I realised I was able to repeatedly post to BIOS with a video signal, so I knew the HDMI 2.1 cable and monitor port were 100% fine. Long story short, after lots of troubleshooting and 9000 reboots later, the simple fix was this:
System > Power & sleep > Additional power settings > Choose what the power buttons do > Change settings that are currently unavailable > Uncheck "Turn on fast startup (recommended)"
This seemed to be the common work around for a lot of displays that suffered handshake issues/no signal/dropouts with 30 series cards over HDMI 2.1. So yeah, hope this saves someone from a major headache!
Hey.
I'm planning to upgrade my motherboard and CPU. Currently running on a intel System. I have never used an AMD System before. But i need a CPU with more cores since i do a lot of video rendering, but also use it for gaming. I wonder if this a good combo.
Thanks.
Hello, I upgraded my pc a while ago and I'm in the middle of moving so I figured could sell my old parts for some money. No items are sold separately and everything mentioned below is included in the price. Local only which is 91786.

EVERYTHING for $100. Heck I'll lower the price if you can get here before Tuesday 18th May.
PS. I dusted a decent amount but the parts still have some dust.
Edit: I get notifications about replies on this post but I don't see them for some reason. If you need me to reply, just message me.
Hi all, I recently managed to buy an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X and so far the MB that would fit me the most would be the Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master. However I have read and heard some horrible things about its stability and BIOS issues, but most of these posts are quit old, so I am not sure if these problems still exist today.
So my questions would be directed to anyone who has this MB or just knows the answers to my questions:
Reference to a mention about the MB issues:
I got this in the Newegg Shuffulufugus hoping I could swap it for some less expensive cards. I build computers and need multiple gpus not just one expensive one. I don't need to have 2 of the same exact cards, not doing sli or anything like that just a combo of 2 of the listed cards. Depending on which cards they are and their condition I would also be up for adding money in on my side.
timestamps - apparently they dont seal the box from the factory, but it has not even been opened.
Comment before pm'ing
Edit: I have a pending trade in progress. Thank you everyone for your offers. I will update this when either details have been finalized or if the trade falls through.
