Recent posts on this subreddit have covered the new homophobic hipster church/coffeeshop/co-working space soon opening on Geer St. across from Motorco. There's a bunch of signs up downtown now with a link to this petition that 1) says that Durham opposes this sort of homophobic nonsense, and 2) calls on the Durham community to boycott the space. If you agree, sign!

If you guys didn't see an email, I just wanted to remind you all that if you've been impacted by COVID to your education, you may fill out a form to receive a grant of up to $2,500. You can input a custom amount if you don't need the full $2,500 and I hope this can help someone in need!
Have a good one all!
EDIT: nevermind the soccer field at Geer is closed
Buddy and I are headed to Geer park to kick a soccer ball around if any Salemanders wanna join us. Low intensity high fun.
Look for the fat white guy huffing and puffing chasing the ball
So for years I've had issues with D&D combat, both as a DM and as a player. All it was was a long slog where players just trade blow after blow. I've researched so many tips and tricks, but I learned so many of them that they were hard to track. Today, I figured out that you could boil down all this advice into 4 easy to remember rules. I'll give you the rules, then go into further detail with examples.
Goals - There are 3 sides in every combat; Players, Enemies, and Environment. Each has a goal that isn't just kill everything to win.
Exploits - Give all 3 sides lots of opportunities to reach their goal faster through exploits!
Ending - Once a goal is reached, the encounter needs to end as quickly as possible.
Roleplay - Roleplay doesn't end when combat starts, make sure to narrate the excitement!
This one is first because it is the most important (even if it doesn't fit the acronym). Have you ever had players get bored because they were just attacking with nothing else to do? That's because to them, that's the only choice that works. This is called Dominant Strategy. Why do anything else when attacking will work just as well?
If there's anything you take away from this post, it's this:
PLAYERS GET BORED WHEN THE ONLY CHOICE IS ATTACK
This is what you don't want to happen. Worse yet is if they feel like doing anything other than attacking will result is no effect, which in turn results in a long, boring combat. For months I've been wracking my brain trying to solve this. Until it finally clicked: Why not just let players decide how long a combat is?
To do this, you introduce Exploits, which I define as anything that achieves the goal faster. They're things like, toppling a statue onto a monster, shoving it off a cliff, activating a trap, or simply exploiting a weakness. These gives the players choices and options. There is one big catch though, the DM can use exploits too. This gives the encounter rising danger, and bigger stakes. There are a few sub-rues to this in order for them to work.
If you could have five picks and the goal was for the collection to be as sonically and sexually diverse as possible, what would be in the line up?
I'm thinking broad strokes here. Maybe fast strokes too. Just lots of stroking: Shape, mouthfeel, fit, and snugness.
Right now I'm thinking:
Jizz 3
Fender 035
That really expensive blue pick that one youtuber uses
The free pick from Guitar Center
Cheap copy of the Pick of Destiny from wish.com
But I'm keen to hear your thoughts?
Greatly appreciated. Can't thank you both enough.
Also the guy who picks up trash with his dog around the Trinity Street Market--I see you fam! Major props to you all.
6 or so police blocking the street near accordion: not sure what went down, but OND seems to be heating up with BS.
So after this reading comments on my previous post, I've decided to rename the the system to OGRE/GORE, which are acronyms for the same thing, just in whatever order you prefer. I've also decided to come up with a quick example. We'll start with a quick recap.
O - Opportunities. The core of the system. Combat becomes boring when the only choice left is "attack", so you must present your players with lots of opportunities, and therefore choices to win. The catch is that monsters and environment.
G - Goals. There are 3 sides in every combat. The players, the enemies, and the environment. Each must have a goal that isn't just kill everything to win.
R - Roleplay. Don't forget to narrate and interact with players outside of combat.
E - Ending. Once a side's goal has been met, the encounter must end as soon as possible.
Picture this:
"You and your companions have been hired to root out some goblins that have been pilfering supplies from a farm and mining town. You've spotted the goblins and confront them. They freeze, then bolt in every direction!
A goblin with a heavy grate trips and falls, spilling the contents all over the ground. Dynamite, sticks and sticks of old, leaking dynamite. Everyone stops. The goblins look at the dynamite, then back at you, and lunge for the dynamite! ***Roll Initiative!***"
Now, this sounds like a really fun encounter, but how do you come up with it? Well it's a lot easier than it looks.
That's it, just start with those two things and make sure not to agonize over it. I picked plains and goblin to show that this system can be used with the most boring of environment and monster.
Brainstorming is a very valuable tool. When it comes to good ideas, quantity usually trumps quality. The point being that you shouldn't be agonizing over whether your ideas are good or not. Try not to second guess yourself. It also gives you
Why do Opportunities before the Goals? Because brainstorming here will help with brainstorming every for Goals.
When I was brainstorming, I originally had it that they were just stealing apples from an orchard. Maybe the goblins would toss apples at the players, and they in turn could ram into the tree to dislodge the goblins. Then I thought, if it's and orchard, t

ACCORDING TO GEER GANG DOUBLE OG's SMILEY DRIVE NEVER WANTED TO WAGE WAR. THE RANCHO CLIQUE THAT WAS PUSHED OUT OF THE JUNGLES BY BPS STARTED BEEFING WITH GEER GANG.
De Limburgse dialecte hâbbe vÀâl wÀârd gemeinsjappelik, mer toch besjteit hiej en dao ei hennig waord dae neet ederein kint. Ich bin benuujd of du ei hâbs!
(Zijn er Limburgse woorden die alleen jouw regio gebruikt maar nog wel handig zijn?)
IMO GEER GANG IS ONE OF THE MOST INTERESTING GANGS IN LA. DEFINITELY on the West Side.
In the 90's they were a force known to get money and have a bunch of gunners. A small gang with the business both money and militancy (Similar to the rollin 100 Ug'z are today). The double OG in this interveiw talks about how 18th street smiley drive and the Geers were cool until the BPS war with the rancho clique of the 18s pushed them towards hanging out at smiley drive and caused them to double in numbers and caused friction.
Kev Mac doing a special on them. Peep the sneak preview here:
