I'm not that deep into philosophy and not deep at all in its current debates and discourses.
I just know, that Thomas Aquinas et al. were huge figures and are to a certain degree relevant for philosophy's history.
Do the clerics of today still write papers, that are valid contributions to current fields of discourse (climate-change as one example)? And if they do, are these texts received as such or more or less ignored?
